Gomes (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment at Double-A Akron on Friday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Gomes is slated to DH twice over the weekend as he continues to work back from a separated AC joint in his shoulder. Barring a setback, the expectation is that he'll be able to return to the big league club when eligible on Sept. 16.

Plawecki will be recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday, Marc Carig of Newsday reports.

Plawecki has had a solid showing with Las Vegas this season, as he's hit .300/.348/.484 over 55 games. Upon his return to the Mets, he'll look to improve his poor MLB line of .194/.301/.258.

Gomes was transferred to the 60-day DL on Wednesday.

The move was made so that there would be room on the roster for Perci Garner, who was called up from Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday. Gomes will be eligible to return from the disabled list September 16. It's expected that he'll begin a rehab assignment in the near future, making a mid-September return highly likely.

Barnhart (hand) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's matchup against the Angels, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Barnhart will continue to sit out while Ramon Cabrera starts behind the dish. The Reds have Thursday off, so consider Barnhart day-to-day heading into Friday's series opener against the Cardinals.

Barnhart (hand) is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Angels, c. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Barnhart continues to nurse the same hand injury that's robbed him of the previous five games. With rosters set to expand, the Reds aren't likely to make a DL move, but Barnhart remains without a firm return timetable. Ramon Cabrera will get the nod behind the plate Wednesday.

Bethancourt (ribs) was placed on the disabled list Wednesday.

Bethancourt had to leave Tuesday's game in the fourth inning with a left intercostal strain. With a .228 batting average and 28 percent strikeout rate, Bethancourt hadn't performed well for much of the season, and recent outings were no exception. Over the last 14 games, he went just 7-for-40 (.175) with 13 strikeouts. In a corresponding move, Hector Sanchez was recalled from Triple-A El Paso.

Sanchez was recalled from Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday.

With Christian Bethancourt being placed on the disabled list, Sanchez will head to San Diego to add depth at catcher. Over 14 games with the Padres in 2016, Sanchez has hit .313/.389/.563 with a home run and four RBI.

Grandal is out of the lineup for Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader in Coors Field, the Los Angeles Times' Andy McCullough reports.

Grandal likely wasn't going to catch both games Wednesday, so with him sitting out the day game, his owners should expect him back for the nightcap. Carlos Ruiz will start behind the dish and hit seventh in Game 1.

Realmuto went 2-for-4 with a home run in a 7-4 loss against the Mets on Tuesday.

Realmuto has struggled somewhat of late, hitting just .208 in his last seven games. Yet he's been solid overall in 2016, hitting .304 with 11 steals, the most of any catcher in baseball. Part of Realmuto's value lies in his playing time, as he gets fewer days off than most other catchers and ranks fourth among all catchers in at-bats.

Maile went 2-for-4 with a two-run, game-tying home run in a 4-3 win over the Red Sox on Tuesday.

Maile's game-tying homer knotted the game at 3-3 in the seventh and chased Boston start Drew Pomeranz. It was the young catcher's second career home run in 113 at-bats, and raised his batting average to .256 on the season. Maile slugged just .367 over his minor league career, so don't expect much more than the limited power he's shown moving forward.
