  • Rays' Logan Driscoll: Back in action Tuesday

Driscoll (quad) will start at catcher and bat eighth in Tuesday's game versus the Phillies.

Driscoll had to be pulled from his last start Saturday with a bruised left quad, but he's feeling well enough to give it a go in this one. The catcher is 2-for-10 with a couple RBI in his first three major-league games.

  • Tigers' Dillon Dingler: Scratched due to illness

Dingler was scratched from the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rockies due to an illness, Evan Woodbery of MLive.comreports.

Dingler is one of a handful of Tigers players feeling under the weather and won't start as scheduled Tuesday. The 25-year-old will be available off the bench and should rejoin the starting nine within the next couple days.

  • Diamondbacks' Adrian Del Castillo: Playing time slipping

Del Castillo is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rangers.

Del Castillo has now started just two of the last six contests for the Diamondbacks. They've faced three lefties over that stretch, but the left-handed hitting Del Castillo has also been out of the lineup twice versus righties, including on Tuesday against Nathan Eovaldi. Jose Herrera will catch and bat ninth for Arizona.

  • Bo Naylor C | CLE

Guardians' Bo Naylor: Homers, swipes two bags Monday

Naylor went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and two stolen bases in Monday's 5-3 win against the White Sox.

Naylor belted a 428-foot homer in the fourth inning to set a new career high with 12 long balls on the campaign. The catcher also swiped a bag in both the sixth and eighth frames to record his first multi-theft game of the season. In addition, Naylor's multi-hit performance was his first since Aug. 24 -- he came in batting .174 (4-for-23) over his previous 10 contests.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Four hits, homer

Perez went 4-for-4 with a solo home run and two RBI singles during Monday's 10-4 loss to the Yankees.

Perez entered Monday's game 4-for-40 in his last 11 outings but burst out of the slump in extravagant fashion. The 34-year-old launched his 26th home run of the season and reached safely in all four at-bats. Perez is slashing .275/.335/.474 with 98 RBI and 56 runs in 2024.

  • Austin Wells C | NYY

Yankees' Austin Wells: Lifts three-run homer

Wells went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run and an RBI double during Monday's 10-4 win over the Royals.

Wells tied his season high in RBI on Monday, launching a three-run home run off James McArthur in the seventh inning before tacking on a double in the eighth. Wells is up to 13 home runs on the season, and he's slashing .252/.342/.438 across 358 plate appearances.

  • Rays' Logan Driscoll: Dealing with quad bruise after fall

Driscoll was diagnosed with a left quadricep contusion after he was removed in the seventh inning of Saturday's 7-1 win over the Orioles, MLB.com reports.

He suffered the injury in question in the bottom of the fifth inning, when he was tracking a popup off the bat of the Orioles' Adley Rutschman. Driscoll reeled in the catch for the out, but his momentum carried him into a post near the Tampa Bay dugout, and he stumbled down the stairs. The rookie backstop eventually got back on his feet in obvious pain and stayed in the game, but he was pulled from the contest after he was noticeably limping down the first-base line on a two-run infield single in the top of the seventh. The Rays didn't call up another catcher from the minors, so the expectation is that Driscoll will be ready to play the next time he's needed to replace No. 1 backstop Ben Rortvedt.

  • Rays' Alex Jackson: Passes through waivers

Jackson cleared waivers Saturday and was outrighted to Triple-A Durham.

Jackson has served as the Rays' No. 2 catcher for much of the season and was one of baseball's least-productive hitters during his time in the big leagues. Among the 393 players who have logged at least 150 plate appearances in 2024, Jackson's 29 wRC+ placed him 392nd. Since the Rays elected to drop Jackson from their 40-man roster, Logan Driscoll has taken over as the top backup to Ben Rortvedt.

  • Royals' Freddy Fermin: Getting rest Monday

Fermin is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Yankees.

Fermin will get a breather for the series opener after he caught both of the Royals' final two games of the weekend series with the Twins. Salvador Perez will pick up a start behind the dish Monday while Yuli Gurriel draws a start at first base.

  • Pirates' Yasmani Grandal: Starting, but likely to lose work

Grandal will start at catcher and bat seventh in Monday's game against the Marlins.

Though he's included in the starting nine Monday, Grandal is expected to move into the No. 2 role at catcher after the Pirates reinstated top backstop Joey Bart from the injured list Friday. Grandal is slashing .333/.469/.569 since the beginning of August, but his .681 OPS on the season still lags well behind Bart's mark of .848.
