Will Banfield C | CIN
Will Banfield: Non-tendered by Reds
The Reds non-tendered Banfield on Friday, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.
Banfield appeared in just seven games for the Reds in 2025, during which he went 1-for-10 with six strikeouts, and he also turned in a .558 OPS across 270 plate appearances at Triple-A Louisville. He'll enter the open market now that Cincinnati has opted not to offer him a contract, and the 26-year-old will likely have to settle for a minor-league deal in free agency.

James McCann C | ARI
Diamondbacks' James McCann: Re-signs with Diamondbacks
The Diamondbacks re-signed McCann to a one-year, $2.75 million contract Friday, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.
He'll have the ability to earn an additional $500,000 in incentives. McCann signed with Arizona in late June this past season and went on to hit .260/.324/.431 with five home runs over 42 games. He will open the 2026 season as the backup catcher behind Gabriel Moreno.

Andrew Knizner C | SEA
Giants' Andrew Knizner: Designated for assignment
The Giants designated Knizner for assignment Friday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
The Giants didn't want to pay Knizner a raise in arbitration, so he will become a free agent if he passes through waivers. Knizner, who turns 31 in February, slashed .221/.299/.299 over 33 contests with San Francisco in 2025.

Garrett Stubbs C | PHI
Phillies' Garrett Stubbs: Inks one-year deal with Phillies
The Phillies and Stubbs avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $925,000 contract, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
It's a split contract that will pay Stubbs $575,000 if he's in the minors. The 32-year-old is out of minor-league options, so if he doesn't make the team, he'll have to be passed through waivers. Stubbs received just one plate appearance in the majors in 2025 and is a career .215/.293/.310 hitter over parts of seven big-league seasons.

Alex Jackson C | MIN
Twins' Alex Jackson: Shipped to Minnesota
The Twins acquired Jackson from the Orioles on Friday in exchange for Payton Eeles, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.
Jackson was on the non-tender bubble for the Orioles, so instead of cutting him loose, Baltimore was able to get a prospect for him. The 29-year-old catcher is a career .153/.239/.288 hitter over parts of six big-league seasons. Jackson could open next season as the Twins' backup behind Ryan Jeffers.

Connor Wong C | BOS
Red Sox's Connor Wong: Avoids arbitration with Red Sox
The Red Sox and Wong (hand) avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract Thursday.
Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com says the deal is worth $1.375 million, with an additional $75,000 possible in performance bonuses. It was a disastrous 2025 season for the 29-year-old Wong, as he lost his starting job to Carlos Narvaez and finished with a .500 OPS and zero home runs over 63 regular-season contests. Wong -- who is expected to be recovered from October right hand surgery by spring training -- will be Narvaez's backup at catcher again in 2026.

Leonardo Bernal C | STL
Cardinals' Leonardo Bernal: Protected from Rule 5 Draft
The Cardinals selected Bernal's contract from Double-A Springfield on Tuesday, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
Bernal spent the entire 2025 campaign at Springfield and slashed .247/.332/.394 with 13 homers, 69 RBI, 58 runs scored and 13 steals across 454 plate appearances. The 21-year-old backstop will be ineligible for the Rule 5 Draft now that he owns a 40-man spot, and he could potentially receive a promotion to Triple-A Memphis to begin 2026.
-
Ronny Hernandez C | CHW
Red Sox's Ronny Hernandez: Shipped to Boston
The White Sox traded Hernandez to the Red Sox on Tuesday in exchange for Chris Murphy, Chris Henrique of BostonSportsJournal.com reports.
Hernandez spent the entire 2025 season with the White Sox's Single-A affiliate, slashing .251/.344/.336 over 355 plate appearances. He could receive a bump up to High-A upon joining the Red Sox's farm system, but the 21-year-old backstop doesn't appear to be on the verge of making his MLB debut anytime soon.

Thayron Liranzo C | DET
Tigers' Thayron Liranzo: Added for Rule 5 protection
The Tigers selected Liranzo's contract from Double-A Erie on Tuesday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
With that, Liranzo is now ineligible to be selected in next month's Rule 5 Draft. Liranzo endured a harsh dose of reality in his first go at the Double-A level in 2025, as he limped to a .206/.308/.351 slash line in 88 games. However, the Tigers clearly still believe that he will contribute eventually between catcher, first base and DH.

Joe Mack C | MIA
Marlins' Joe Mack: Added to 40-man roster
The Marlins selected Mack's contract from Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuedsay.
Mack is one of Miami's top prospects, so it's no surprise the organization is protecting him from the Rule 5 Draft. The 22-year-old spent most of last season at Triple-A Jacksonville and had a .786 OPS with 18 homers and seven steals in 98 games.
