  • Austin Wells C | NYY

Yankees' Austin Wells: Out against left-hander

Wells is not in the lineup for Monday's contest against the Marlins, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.

The Marlins are starting left-hander Jesus Luzardo, so the lefty-hitting Wells will yield to Jose Trevino at catcher. Wells has made six starts at catcher thus far (all against righties), while Trevino has been behind the plate five times (twice versus righties).

  • White Sox's Martin Maldonado: Not in Monday's lineup

Maldonado is not in the lineup for Monday's contest in Cleveland, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Korey Lee will do the catching for opener Tanner Banks. Maldonado had started each of the previous games and has now been behind the plate in seven of the White Sox' 10 contests thus far.

  • Bo Naylor C | CLE

Guardians' Bo Naylor: Absent from lineup

Naylor is not in the lineup for Monday's contest against the White Sox.

Naylor had started each of the previous six games (four at catcher, two at designated hitter) but will take a seat Monday against left-handed opener Tanner Banks. He's a possibility to pinch hit at some point for Austin Hedges, who will do the catching for Triston McKenzie.

  • Henry Davis RF | PIT

Pirates' Henry Davis: Slow start to season

Davis went 0-for-2 with an RBI on Sunday against the Orioles.

Davis is hitless in five straight games spanning 16 plate appearances. He's also struck out 43.8 percent of the time in that span, though he had a brief bright spot on Sunday when he drove in a run on a sacrifice fly. With Yasmani Grandal (foot) and Jason Delay (knee) both out, Davis faces diminished competition for plate appearances. However, Joey Bart made quite an impression in his debut with the Pirates and could start to see his playing time tick up.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Erupts with five RBI

Contreras went 4-for-5 with two homers, five RBI and three runs scored in Sunday's 12-4 win over the Mariners.

One day after receiving his Silver Slugger Award, Contreras hit his first and second home runs of the season to help him achieve a career-best five RBI in one game. All four of his hits had an exit velocity of 104 mph or higher, as he's seeing the ball very well to start the year. Contreras his now slashing .387/.444/.677 with a 1.121 OPS through 36 plate appearances.

  • Red Sox's Reese McGuire: Homers, swipes bag

McGuire went 2-for-4 with a home run, five RBI, a walk and a stolen base in Sunday's win over the Angels.

McGuire filled the stat sheet Sunday, highlighted by his three-run blast in the sixth inning. He's gone deep twice in the last three games and posted his second multi-hit game of the season. The 29-year-old catcher is slashing .333/.385/.625 with three extra-base hits and eight RBI through nine games.

  • Jason Delay C | BOS

Pirates' Jason Delay: Limited progress in recovery

Pirates general manager Ben Cherington said Sunday that nothing "particularly new" has changed with regard to where Delay stands in his recovery from right knee inflammation, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Delay was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday and doesn't seem to have made any notable progress in his recovery since. He looks set to spend more than the minimum 10 days on his shelf, and whenever he's ultimately activated, Delay could be optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis to play on a more frequent basis.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Gets day off Sunday

Campusano is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.

Kyle Higashioka will step in behind the plate, forming a battery with starting pitcher Matt Waldron in the series finale. Campusano has started at catcher in nine of the Padres' first 12 games while slashing .361/.361/.528 with one home run, seven RBI and five runs.

  • Elias Diaz C | KC

Rockies' Elias Diaz: Receives maintenance day

Diaz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays.

Diaz will retreat to the bench for the series finale after he went 4-for-8 with two RBI while starting behind the plate both Friday and Saturday. Jacob Stallings will handle catching duties for the Rockies on Sunday.

  • Ben Rortvedt C | NYM

Rays' Ben Rortvedt: Playing time trending up

Rortvedt will start at catcher and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Rockies.

Billed as a glove-first catcher, Rortvedt has brought more to the table than expected as a hitter in the early going. He's driven in a pair of runs in both of the past two games in Colorado and has two extra-base hits -- both doubles -- in just 15 plate appearances this season. Rortvedt still looks to be behind Rene Pinto on the depth chart on catcher, though he'll be making his third start in four games and is making a case for the Rays to embrace a timeshare at the position.
