Nationals' Riley Adams: Shifts to 60-day IL

The Nationals transferred Adams (wrist) to the 60-day injured list Friday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

Adams underwent season-ending surgery on his left hand/wrist Sept. 11, so his move to the 60-day IL is simply procedural. The 27-year-old slashed .273/.331/.476 with 21 RBI through 158 plate appearances in 2023, and he is expected to be fully recovered before the start of spring training. Tanner Rainey (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list to fill Adams' spot on the 40-man roster.

  • Jake Rogers C | DET

Tigers' Jake Rogers: Pops 21st home run

Rogers went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's suspended game against the Royals, which resumed Thursday.

Rogers hit his 21st home run of the season in the eighth inning as he continues to increase his career-best total. He came into the year with 10 total long balls in his first two MLB campaigns. Heading into 2024, Rogers has established some fantasy value due to his power potential and his role as Detroit's top catcher, though his upside is capped due to his high strikeout rate and perennially low batting average.

  • Marlins' Jacob Stallings: Takes seat Thursday

Stallings is out of the lineup Thursday against the Mets.

Nick Fortes will start at catcher and bat eighth versus the Mets and left-hander David Peterson. Stallings went 0-for-4 with a strikeout Wednesday and is slashing just .189/.279/.288 across 267 total plate appearances this season.

  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: Rest day Thursday

Smith is out of the lineup Thursday at Colorado.

Austin Barnes will start behind the plate and bat ninth in the Dodgers' series finale against the Rockies. Smith had caught two straight games while going 1-for-8 with two RBI.

  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

Braves' Sean Murphy: Gets breather Thursday

Murphy is not in the lineup Thursday against the Cubs.

Murphy continues to get regular days off as the NL East champs look ahead to the postseason. Travis d'Arnaud is starting at catcher and batting seventh for Atlanta on Thursday.

  • Pirates' Endy Rodriguez: Gets breather Thursday

Rodriguez is out of the lineup Thursday against the Phillies.

Jason Delay will catch and bat ninth for the visiting Pirates. Rodriguez started behind the plate in the first two games of the three-game series and went 0-for-7 with a walk and two strikeouts.

  • Elias Diaz C | KC

Rockies' Elias Diaz: On bench Thursday

Diaz is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Dodgers.

Diaz gets a breather after going 0-for-4 with four strikeouts in the Rockies' loss to Los Angeles on Wednesday. Austin Wynns will start at catcher and bat eighth in Thursday's series finale.

  • Jake Rogers C | DET

    Tigers' Jake Rogers: Sitting Thursday

Rogers isn't in the Tigers' lineup Thursday against Kansas City.

Rogers will get a breather Thursday after going 1-for-4 with a homer and two RBI in his previous game. Carson Kelly will get the nod behind the dish and bat eighth while Rogers is out.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Homers, collects three RBI

Rutschman went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Wednesday's win over the Nationals.

Rutschman jumped on a hanging four-seamer from Patrick Corbin in the bottom of the third and crushed it over the wall in left-center field to put the Orioles on top 2-0. The star catcher would then tack on another run with an RBI single in the fifth as Baltimore went on to win its fourth straight. Rutschman has now recorded multiple hits in four of his last six games while the home run marked his fourth this month and 20th on the season. He's also drawn at least one walk in four consecutive games.

  • Red Sox's Reese McGuire: Was available Wednesday

McGuire (thumb) was available to play Wednesday, MLB.com reports.

McGuire injured his thumb while taking warmup pitches prior to the start of the third inning of Tuesday's loss to the Rays. Connor Wong replaced him Tuesday and started Wednesday. Boston manager Alex Cora said McGuire was available off the bench if needed.
