Riley Adams C | WAS
Nationals' Riley Adams: Powers offense in loss
Adams went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Diamondbacks.
The 26-year-old started behind the plate Thursday with Keibert Ruiz resting his legs as the designated hitter, and he delivered a two-run shot during the ninth inning to cut Washington's deficit in half. Adams has a .304/.371/.589 slash line with three home runs in 16 games this season and should continue to see sporadic playing time as the backup catcher.

Sean Murphy C | ATL
Braves' Sean Murphy: Won't start Friday
Murphy (hamstring) appeared as a pinch hitter Thursday against the Phillies but won't be ready to catch Friday's game in Cincinnati, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
There's still a chance Murphy could return later this weekend, per Bowman, and his appearance off the bench Thursday makes an injured list stint less likely. Chadwick Tromp will serve as Travis d'Arnaud's backup in the meantime. Murphy struck out in his pinch-hit appearance.

Christian Bethancourt C | CHC
Rays' Christian Bethancourt: Not starting Thursday
Bethancourt isn't in the Rays' lineup Thursday against the Royals, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
After an 0-for-4 performance with three strikeouts in Bethancourt's last outing, Thursday will be Francisco Mejia's turn to start behind the dish while batting eighth.

Astros' Cesar Salazar: Sent back to Triple-A
Salazar was optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land on Thursday, Julia Morales of AT&T SportsNet Southwest reports.
Salazar has been back and forth between the majors and Triple-A several times this season, notching two hits in 18 total at-bats with the big club. Houston will operate with two catchers (Martin Maldonado and Yainer Diaz) for the time being.

Christian Vazquez C | HOU
Twins' Christian Vazquez: Out of Thursday's lineup
Vazquez is not in Thursday's lineup against the Red Sox.

Bo Naylor C | CLE
Guardians' Bo Naylor: Heads to bench Thursday
Naylor is not in Thursday's lineup against the Athletics.
Naylor picked up his first big-league hit and also drew a walk and scored twice in Wednesday's game. Cam Gallagher will start behind the dish and bat ninth Thursday.

Sean Murphy C | ATL
Braves' Sean Murphy: May return this weekend
Murphy (hamstring) is not in Thursday's lineup against the Phillies but could still return this weekend in Cincinnati, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
According to Bowman, Chadwick Tromp would have caught Thursday if Atlanta's game Wednesday hadn't been rained out, and Travis d'Arnaud will instead get the start for the day game. A stint on the injured list has not been ruled out for Murphy, and he should be considered questionable for this weekend's series.

Reese McGuire C | CHW
Red Sox's Reese McGuire: To IL with oblique strain
McGuire was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a right oblique strain, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.
This move seemed inevitable once McGuire was designated with a strained oblique Wednesday. Caleb Hamilton was added to the roster to serve as Connor Wong's backup while McGuire is sidelined for at least a couple weeks.

Gabriel Moreno C | ARI
Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Riding pine Thursday
Moreno is not in Thursday's lineup against the Nationals.
Carson Kelly gets his second start in the last three games, although Moreno had started four of the five games prior. Moreno is hitting .182 with a 33.3 percent strikeout rate in 15 games this month.
