Phillies' Kyle Schwarber: First to reach 20 homers

The red-hot slugger launched two-run homers off Braxton Ashcraft in the fifth inning and Mason Montgomery in the seventh before drawing a bases-loaded walk in the ninth, fueling a Phillies rally from an early 6-0 deficit. Schwarber is the first player in the majors this season to hit 20 home runs, and he put his name in the record books alongside some very notable peers -- per Bill Ladson of MLB.com, Schwarber is the second player in Phillies history to launch nine or more long balls in an eight-game span, joining Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt, and Schwarber's the second player in history to have multiple such power surges in his career after Albert Belle. • Mark Vientos 1B | NYM

Mets' Mark Vientos: Strong May continues

Vientos went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's win over the Tigers.

The 26-year-old launched a first-pitch cutter from Tyler Holton down the left-field line in the fifth inning, one of five long balls by the Mets on the afternoon. Vientos has been getting a chance to play every day at first base in the absence of Jorge Polanco (Achilles/wrist) and he's found his power stroke as a result. Through 11 games in May, Vientos is slashing .250/.283/.568 with two doubles, four homers and 11 RBI.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Idle as expected Thursday

Ohtani is not in the lineup Thursday versus the Giants, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

As expected, Ohtani is going a second consecutive game with the bat out of his hands after working exclusively as a pitcher in Wednesday's 4-0 win over the Giants. The two-way superstar has not hit up to his standards so far into 2026 with a .797 OPS through 184 plate appearances, and a couple days off could help him to reset at the plate.

  • Luis Torrens C | NYM

Mets' Luis Torrens: Taking seat Thursday

Torrens is absent from the lineup for Thursday's tilt against the Tigers.

Torrens is set to serve as the Mets' primary catcher while Francisco Alvarez (knee) is sidelined, but he'll take a seat for Thursday's matinee after catching Wednesday night. Hayden Senger will be behind the plate and bat ninth as the Mets go for the sweep.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Continues dominance on mound

Ohtani (3-2) allowed four hits and two walks while striking out eight over seven shutout innings to earn the win over the Giants on Wednesday.

Ohtani's Cy Young-caliber season continues after a 105-pitch effort (71 strikes). It's his third scoreless outing of the season and the fourth time he's logged at least eight strikeouts. Through seven starts, he has a superb 0.82 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 50:11 K:BB across 44 innings. Ohtani is expected to get a full day off Thursday for the series finale versus San Francisco, but he should be back in the lineup as a hitter Friday as the Dodgers face his former team, the Angels, for a three-game series over the weekend. The 31-year-old has yet to get his bat going in May with a .150/.261/.250 slash line through 10 games as a hitter this month.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

  • Luis Torrens C | NYM

Mets' Luis Torrens: Taking over for injured Alvarez

Torrens will start at catcher and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Tigers.

With Francisco Alvarez (knee) suffering a right meniscus tear in Tuesday's win and likely to miss at least a month, Torrens is poised to step in as the Mets' new No. 1 backstop. While serving in a part-time capacity through the first seven weeks of the season, Torrens has made a limited impact at the dish, slashing just .208/.255/.292 with no home runs, no steals, eight RBI and five runs over 52 plate appearances. Even with his playing time set to increase, Torrens isn't expected to warrant much fantasy attention outside of NL-only leagues or deeper mixed leagues that start two catchers.
