  • AJ Reed DH | HOU

White Sox's AJ Reed: Sent back to minors

Reed was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

This move comes after Reed went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts during Thursday's loss to the Mets, lowering his season average to an unsightly .136. The White Sox are expected to announce a corresponding roster move prior to Friday's series opener in Philadelphia.

  • Franmil Reyes DH | WAS

Indians' Franmil Reyes: Ready for debut

Reyes is starting at designated hitter and hitting sixth Thursday against the Astros.

Reyes is ready to make his debut with the Indians after being acquired from the Padres on Tuesday as part of a three-team trade. Prior to landing in Cleveland, the 24-year-old slugger slashed .255/.314/.536 with 27 home runs in 99 games for San Diego.

  • Ji-Man Choi 1B | NYM

Rays' Ji-Man Choi: Pair of two-baggers in win

Choi went 2-for-4 with two doubles, a walk and two runs in a win over the Red Sox on Wednesday.

Choi did an impressive job setting the table out of the leadoff spot, generating his second straight multi-hit effort. The 28-year-old wrapped up July putting solid wood on the ball, as he also smacked a two-run home run against the Blue Jays last Sunday as part of a three-hit day.

  • Jesse Winker DH | NYM

Reds' Jesse Winker: Sits vs. southpaw

Winker is not starting Thursday against the Braves.

Winker has started the past three games, going 7-for-12 (.583) with a homer and five runs scored, but he'll head to the bench for Thursday's series opener with lefty Max Fried starting for Atlanta. In his place, Aristides Aquino is starting in right field and hitting sixth.

  • Alex Dickerson DH | ATL

Giants' Alex Dickerson: Shelved with oblique strain

Dickerson was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a right oblique strain, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

The Giants had previously termed the issue that prevented Dickerson from playing Wednesday against the Phillies as a side issue, but an MRI provided more clarity on the injury. While the extent of the oblique injury isn't fully known, even Grade 1 strains can sideline players for more than 10 days, so Dickerson won't necessarily be in line for a minimum-length stay on the IL. The setback is disappointing for a player who was instrumental to the Giants' climb up the wild-card standings in recent weeks, as Dickerson had submitted a 1.222 OPS in his 30 games with the club.

  • Ryan Goins DH | KC

White Sox's Ryan Goins: Starts at third base

Goins started at third base in place of the injured Yoan Moncada (hamstring) on Wednesday and went 2-for-4 with a walk and a double in a 4-2 loss to the Mets.

The White Sox dropped Moncada onto the injured list, so there will be a window of opportunity for Goins, who remains the team's primary utility infielder after Jose Rondon was designated for assignment and eventually claimed by Baltimore. Goins has hit with regularity since joining the White Sox, hitting safely in six of his nine starts and going 12-for-37 (.324) with two home runs and four doubles overall.

  • Marcell Ozuna DH | PIT

Cardinals' Marcell Ozuna: Plays field again

Ozuna (finger) went 0-for-2 with a walk and a run in Triple-A Memphis' win over Albuquerque on Wednesday.

Ozuna played five innings in left field for the second consecutive game and apparently emerged without setbacks. The fact he's been able to play back-to-back contests in the field and log five total plate appearances absent any grip issues with the bat certainly bodes well for a possible weekend return.

  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

    Red Sox's J.D. Martinez: Blasts 23rd homer

Martinez went 3-for-4 with a walk, a home run and two RBI in Wednesday's 8-5 loss to the Rays.

That's now three blasts in five games for Martinez and seven multi-hit performances in his last 11 games. The 31-year-old is slashing a blistering .396/.442/.771 over the latter stretch and has 23 homers and 63 RBI through 98 contests overall.

  • Alex Dickerson DH | ATL

Giants' Alex Dickerson: Receives MRI for side issue

Dickerson was scratched from Wednesday's lineup due to a side injury and underwent an MRI, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The results of Dickerson's MRI are not yet known, but a trip to the injured list is apparently being considered. Austin Slater, Tyler Austin and the newly acquired Scooter Gennett could all see increased outfield chances if a trip to the shelf is necessary.

  • Alex Dickerson DH | ATL

Giants' Alex Dickerson: Scratched from lineup

Dickerson was scratched from Wednesday's lineup against the Phillies, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

The reason behind Dickerson's removal from the lineup is not yet known. Austin Slater is starting in the outfield in his place.
