Mark Canha LF | TEX
Athletics' Mark Canha: Solid month continues
Canha went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and a double in a loss to the Rangers on Friday.
The veteran has given his season average a nice 15-point boost to .251 during July, a month in which his contributions include nine extra-base hits (three doubles, one triple, five home runs), nine RBI and 12 runs. Canha continues to enjoy an everyday role while logging time at first base, all three outfield spots and designated hitter, and both his current .378 on-base percentage and .530 slugging percentage represent career bests.

Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU
Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Will play field Sunday
Alvarez is scheduled to start in left field Sunday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
With Houston playing in St. Louis over the weekend, manager AJ Hinch does not have the designated hitter for three games. Alvarez sat out Friday and will sit out Saturday as well. Come Tuesday, when the Astros are in Cleveland, Alvarez can slot into his usual DH spot until the next series in an NL city, which comes Sept. 2 and 3 in Milwaukee.

Eloy Jimenez DH | TOR
White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Takes significant rehab steps
Jimenez (elbow) took multiple rounds of batting practice and threw to bases from the outfield Friday, Steve Greenberg of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
This was a significant step forward for Jimenez as he works his way back from a bruised ulnar nerve in his right elbow that he sustained July 16. The White Sox will check in on the rookie and see how he feels the day after his activity. If a rehab assignment is needed, it could be a short one.

Matt Carpenter DH | STL
Cardinals' Matt Carpenter: Logs eight innings in field
Carpenter (foot) went 0-for-3 with a walk in Double-A Springfield's loss to Amarillo on Friday while playing eight innings at third base.
Carpenter led off and was able to log four plate appearances for a second straight contest. The veteran may have played his last rehab game after a previous report indicated he'd extend his rehab assignment into the early part of the weekend. However, the Cardinals could opt to give him a little more time to try and get his timing down at the plate given that Carpenter has gone 0-for-9 with two walks and four strikeouts over his first three rehab games.

J.D. Martinez DH | NYM
Red Sox's J.D. Martinez: Posts two more extra-base hits
Martinez went 2-for-4 with a home run, a triple and three RBI in a 10-5 victory over the Yankees on Friday.
The 31-year-old has recorded at least two hits in five straight games, and during that stretch, he has three contests with multiple extra-base hits. However, Martinez only has three homers this month, which has put him back behind his pace from last season. Martinez has 21 long balls, but he will really have to heat up to reach 40 for the third straight year. He is batting .297 with 46 extra-base hits, 58 RBI, 60 runs and one steal in 381 at-bats this season.

Justin Turner DH | CHC
Dodgers' Justin Turner: Delivers clutch homer
Turner went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer Friday night against Washington.
Turner propelled the Dodgers into the lead with a three-run homer in the eighth inning, and it was all the offense they would need to emerge victorious. The 34-year-old third baseman has now left the yard in four of his last eight contests, registering seven RBI during that brief stretch.
-
Charlie Blackmon RF | COL
Rockies' Charlie Blackmon: Drives in two
Blackmon went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored Friday against Cincinnati.
Blackmon doubled home a run in the fourth inning, and he tacked on an insurance run in the ninth with a single to center. The 33-year-old is riding a modest seven-game hitting streak, registering three RBI over that span.
-
Alex Dickerson DH | ATL
Giants' Alex Dickerson: Benched vs. lefty
Dickerson isn't in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Padres, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
Dickerson will head to the bench with a southpaw slated to pitch for San Diego. Tyler Austin is set to man left field and bat seventh with Dickerson out of the mix.
-
Franmil Reyes DH | WAS
Padres' Franmil Reyes: Gets night off
Reyes will head to the bench for Friday's game against the Giants.
Reyes is in line for a night off after collecting three hits over the last two contests. Hunter Renfroe will shift to right field, opening the door for Wil Myers to start in left with Reyes out of the mix.

Marcell Ozuna DH | PIT
Cardinals' Marcell Ozuna: Progresses to live BP
Ozuna (fingers) took live batting practice on the field Friday, Mark Saxon of The Athletic reports.
Ozuna continues to make progress in his recovery, and he's optimistic about his chances of embarking on a rehab assignment within the next week. Considering he's been on the shelf since June 29 due to multiple fractures on the middle and ring fingers of his right hand, he'll likely need at least a handful of games in the minors to get his timing back at the dish.
