  • Yandy Diaz 1B | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Sets career high with five hits

Diaz went 5-for-5 with a double and a run scored in Wednesday's 9-4 win over the Mariners.

The veteran infielder set a new career high with five hits, continuing a scorching run at the plate, as the 34-year-old has gone 28-for-70 (.400) since Aug 11. Wednesday's career-best effort also helped boost Diaz's season slash line to .294/.353/.479 with 22 home runs, 76 RBI and 68 runs scored across 569 plate appearances, as he closes in on career high totals in both homers and RBI.

  • Brewers' Christian Yelich: Won't play Thursday

Yelich (back) isn't expected to play Thursday against the Phillies, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Manager Pat Murphy said after Wednesday's win that Yelich began experiencing soreness in his lower back about a week ago. As a result, the veteran outfielder sat out of Wednesday's contest, and the plan is to keep him on the bench until the team begins its weekend series in Pittsburgh. Jackson Chourio worked as the Brewers' designated hitter with Blake Perkins in center field Wednesday, and the Brewers may go for a similar look Thursday against southpaw Ranger Suarez.

  • Colt Keith 3B | DET

Tigers' Colt Keith: Scores twice in win

Keith went 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored in Wednesday's 6-2 win over the Mets.

Keith batted leadoff against New York righty Clay Holmes and continued to excel in those matchups, as he's now batting .271 with a .796 OPS against righties this season. The 23-year-old was mired in a bit of a slump before Wednesday, having gone just 2-for-23 in his previous six games, but his spot at the top of Detroit's lineup most days gives him plenty of fantasy upside moving forward.

  • Brewers' Christian Yelich: Scratched Wednesday

Yelich was scratched from the lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the Phillies due to lower-back soreness.

Yelich has dealt with back problems throughout his career, though Wednesday marks the first time he's had an issue since undergoing season-ending surgery on his back last August. He'll aim to return to the starting nine for Thursday's series finale; meanwhile, Jackson Chourio -- originally slated for a day off while managing a hamstring cramp -- will step in as Milwaukee's designated hitter and bat second.

  • Blue Jays' Anthony Santander: Should begin rehab stint next week

Santander (shoulder) will continue his workout program with the Blue Jays this weekend in New York and could begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Buffalo, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

The veteran outfielder has been sidelined over three months while recovering from a dislocated shoulder, but he's in the final stages of his rehab program. Santander will need at least five games in the minors to get back up to speed, which means that the earliest he'll be able to rejoin the Blue Jays will be Sept. 14 versus the Orioles.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Should pitch this weekend

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that Ohtani was scratched from his scheduled start as a pitcher Wednesday in Pittsburgh after feeling "under the weather," but the skipper is hopeful the two-way player will be ready to return to the mound "sometime this weekend" in Baltimore, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Roberts noted that because of a cough and congestion, Ohtani had to cut his recent between-starts bullpen session short, so the Dodgers opted to have Emmet Sheehan take the hill for Wednesday's contest. Ohtani doesn't feel that the illness will compromise him at the plate, however, so the Dodgers will include him in the lineup Wednesday at designated hitter and the leadoff spot. The Dodgers should have a better idea in a couple days which game of the Baltimore series that Ohtani will make his return to the mound.

  • Mike Trout CF | LAA

Angels' Mike Trout: Remains out Wednesday

Trout (skin infection) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Kansas City, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.

Trout was a late scratch from the lineup ahead of Tuesday's 5-1 win as he deals with a skin infection, and he'll now miss a second straight start. Taylor Ward (forehead) will return from the two-game absence to start Wednesday and will fill in for Trout at designated hitter.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Not pitching, still DHing Wednesday

Ohtani is no longer listed as the Dodgers' starting pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Pirates, but he'll serve as the team's designated hitter and will bat leadoff, Kirsten Watson of Spectrum SportsNet LA reports.

The Dodgers haven't provided an explanation for why Ohtani is no longer in line to pitch, but if he's dealing with an undisclosed injury, it's evidently not anything the team believes will affect him while swinging the bat or running the bases. Emmet Sheehan will end up starting on the mound in Ohtani's stead. Expect manager Dave Roberts to shed more light on the situation and provide word on when Ohtani's next start as a pitcher will come when the skipper addresses the media later Wednesday.

  • Giants' Rafael Devers: Launches 30th home run in victory

Devers went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 7-4 win over the Rockies.

Devers launched his 30th homer to right field in the first inning, giving the Giants a 2-0 lead. The 28-year-old has now reached the 30-homer mark four times in his career, including twice in the last three seasons. He's slashing .263/.381/.493 with 96 RBI, 84 runs scored and a stolen base across 627 plate appearances in 140 games between San Francisco and Boston this season.

  • Pirates' Andrew McCutchen: On base three times

McCutchen went 1-for-2 with two walks, an RBI and a run scored Tuesday against the Dodgers.

McCutchen kept a Pirates' rally going in the first inning with an RBI single and reached base for the sixth straight game. He hasn't hit for much power but has otherwise remained productive, recording 16 RBI and nine runs scored across 22 games since Aug. 1. McCutchen remains a near-everyday player, but he could lose some at-bats down the stretch if the Pirates hope to get extra playing time for the likes of Nick Yorke or Cam Devanney.
