  • Scott Barlow RP | ATH

Royals' Scott Barlow: Locks down save No. 11

Barlow fired a scoreless ninth inning to pick up the save Sunday against the Guardians. He allowed one hit and struck out a batter in the process.

Barlow should've ended the game with a strikeout of Will Brennan, but things got extended after Brennan reached on a dropped third strikeout to bring the tying run to the plate. Barlow wound up getting Myles Straw to line out to close out the game and grab his second save in July. The 30-year-old now sits at a 4.09 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 44:16 K:BB over 33 innings this year. He certainly could be another trade candidate for the Royals after they already shipped out Aroldis Chapman, where he'd likely move into a setup role on a playoff team.

  • Ryan Yarbrough RP | NYY

Royals' Ryan Yarbrough: Impresses in return from IL

Yarbrough (2-4) got the win over the Guardians on Sunday, allowing just one run on six hits and a walk while striking out five over six innings.

Yarbrough was fantastic in his return to the mound, allowing just one extra-base hit and tying his season-high with five strikeouts. It was the first time he's reached six innings in four starts this year, though he was only one out short in his last start before being forced to leave the game. The 30-year-old will head into the break with a 5.29 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 19:8 K:BB over 32.1 innings and should stick in the rotation for the time being until Zack Greinke (shoulder) and Brad Keller (shoulder) are able to return from their respective injuries.

  • Jordan Romano RP | LAA

Blue Jays' Jordan Romano: Locks down save Sunday

Romano pitched a 1-2-3 10th inning Sunday against the Tigers while striking out a batter en route to his 26th save of the season.

Romano was able to strand the ghost runner and needed just 13 pitches to do so. His 26th save puts him atop the American League in saves and ties him with Alexis Diaz and Camilo Doval for most in the league overall. The 30-year-old is having another dominant campaign and was just selected as an All-Star replacement for Framber Valdez. Romano will head into the break with a 2.87 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 48:11 K:BB over 37.2 innings and seems destined to top 40 saves for the first time in his career.

  • Kenley Jansen RP | DET

Red Sox's Kenley Jansen: Snares 19th save

Jansen picked up a save in Sunday's 4-3 win over Oakland. He allowed one walk while striking out one over a scoreless inning.

After allowing a run in three straight appearances, Jansen has fired off two straight hitless outings. He's now converted on nine straight save opportunities and ranks 10th in baseball with 19 saves. Through 32 appearances (30.2 innings), Jansen owns a 3.23 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and a 36:13 K:BB.

  • Alex Lange RP | KC

Tigers' Alex Lange: Blows save Sunday

Lange allowed two runs on a hit and a walk over an inning of work to blow the save in Sunday's extra-inning loss to the Blue Jays. He struck out two.

Lange's up-and-down season continued, as he blew his third save opportunity in 16 chances. The righty was lights-out through the end of May with a 1.16 ERA, but he has a 9.45 ERA since then, pushing his season mark to 4.17. Lange figures to stick as Detroit's closer due to the team's lack of other options, but he's been a shaky fantasy contributor recently.

  • White Sox's Kendall Graveman: Blows save Sunday

Graveman allowed a run on a hit and a walk while striking out two in one inning, taking a blown save in Sunday's 4-3 extra-inning loss to the Cardinals.

Graveman was called on to protect a one-run lead in the ninth inning, but he put three of the first four batters on base. A fielder's choice and a second hit batsman created more trouble, but Graveman was able to limit the damage to one run. He's taken three blown saves this season, all of which have come since June 11. He's added seven saves, eight holds, a 2.93 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 39:19 K:BB through 40 innings in a high-leverage role.

  • Trey Wingenter RP | CHC

Tigers' Trey Wingenter: Reinstated, sent to Triple-A

Wingenter (shoulder) was activated from the 60-day injured list Sunday and optioned to Triple-A Toledo.

Wingenter has been on the shelf with shoulder tendinitis since April 22, but he's now back from the injured list after a 10-outing rehab assignment. The 29-year-old allowed eight earned runs over 8.2 innings for Toledo during that stretch.

  • White Sox's Nicholas Padilla: Returns to Triple-A

Padilla was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte after Sunday's loss to the Cardinals.

Padilla allowed a run in one inning during his lone appearance after being recalled by Chicago on Thursday, and he'll quickly return to Triple-A. The 26-year-old has spent most of the season with Charlotte and has a 4.08 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 34:22 K:BB across 28.2 innings.

  • Tigers' Tyler Alexander: No surgery needed

Alexander won't require surgery for the partial tear in his left lat and is expected to be ready for the start of spring training in 2024, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

The 28-year-old will still miss the rest of the season while recovering from the injury, but the fact he won't require surgery is an encouraging development. According to Chris McCosky of The Detroit News, Alexander's rest-and-rehab program will start with being shut down from throwing for the next three months, but he should still have plenty of time to build his arm back up during the offseason.

  • Yankees' Jonathan Loaisiga: Returns to mound work

Loaisiga (elbow) completed a 10-pitch bullpen session Sunday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Loaisiga started up his throwing program in mid-June and returned to the mound Sunday for the first time since he underwent surgery in early May to remove a bone spur from his right elbow. The 28-year-old is already eligible to be activated from the 60-day IL, but he's likely still at least a few weeks away from rejoining the active roster.
