Castillo allowed six runs on six hits and four walks while striking out four in four innings during Sunday's win over the Mariners. He didn't factor into the decision.

Castillo was relatively effective over his first 11 appearances (four starts) in the majors this year, posting a 2.97 ERA and 0.99 WHIP in 30.1 innings prior to Sunday's start. He gave up just one run over the first four innings of Sunday's matchup but struggled mightily in the top of the fifth inning prior to his removal. It's not yet clear whether Castillo will make another start for the Royals over the final week and a half of the regular season.

Akin (3-3) took the loss in extra innings Sunday versus the Astros, allowing four runs (three earned) on a hit and two walks in one-third of an inning.

Akin couldn't control things in the 11th inning as the Astros pulled ahead by four runs. Two of the runs came with Akin on the mound, while Joey Krehbiel allowed a pair of inherited runners to score. Down the stretch, Akin has faded pretty badly, allowing 16 runs (10 earned) across 11.2 innings in his last nine appearances. He has a 3.40 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 71:20 K:BB with two saves and three holds in 76.2 innings overall.

Soto allowed a hit and no walks while failing to record a strikeout in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save during Sunday's win over the White Sox.

Soto gave up two runs (one earned) in one inning against the White Sox on Sept. 17, but he's bounced back by converting saves in each of his last three outings. The southpaw has been among the most reliable closers in baseball this season, converting 28 of 30 save chances while posting a 3.32 ERA and 1.33 WHIP in 57 innings over 59 appearances.

Alexander allowed a run on four hits and a walk while striking out five in six innings during Sunday's win over the White Sox. He didn't factor into the decision.

Although Alexander posted a second consecutive quality start Sunday, he was unable to pick up the win since the Tigers didn't generate any runs until the top of the seventh inning. However, it was encouraging to see the southpaw limit run production once again after he gave up 11 runs (10 earned) in 9.1 innings over his first two September starts. He tentatively lines up to make his next start at home against the Twins on Saturday.

Voth allowed one run on four hits over five innings against the Astros on Sunday. He struck out six and did not factor in the decision.

Voth coughed up one run in the third inning and was in line to take a tough-luck loss before the Orioles forced extra innings. After producing a brutal 10.13 ERA in 19 appearances with the Nationals this season, the 30-year-old righty has produced a 2.77 ERA with a 69:23 K:BB through 78 innings as an Oriole. Voth has given up two or fewer runs in nine straight appearances. He's lined up for a road start against the Yankees next week.

Sewald (5-4) got the win over the Royals on Saturday, firing two scoreless innings during which he allowed one hit.

Sewald breezed through his pair of frames, during which he preserved a 5-5 tie, on just 17 pitches. The right-hander was then rewarded for his efficient and mistake-free work when Cal Raleigh laced a go-ahead double in the ninth that gave the Mariners a lead they didn't relinquish. Sewald has 19 saves on the season as well, but Andres Munoz, who got the ninth-inning call Saturday, also remains a viable candidate for such opportunities over the final week-plus of the season.

Burke (7-4) took the loss against the Guardians on Saturday, allowing two runs on two hits while issuing two walks and striking out two batters over 2.1 innings.

Burke entered the game in the seventh and struck out Oscar Gonzalez swinging to start the inning before giving up a solo homer to Andres Gimenez on a 2-1 slider. After retiring the next two batters, Burke returned in the eighth and allowed a leadoff walk to Steven Kwan followed by a ground-rule double in the next at-bat to put the Rangers down 3-1. The reliever has still allowed just three earned runs in six September appearances (10.1 innings) with a 12:6 K:BB over that stretch.

Snider was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Sunday.

He will head down to make room for Sunday's starter, Max Castillo. Snider has a 6.82 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 20 strikeouts in 33 MLB innings.

Pressly picked up the save Saturday against the Orioles. He allowed one run on one hit while striking out one over one inning.

Pressly entered the game tasked with protecting a two-run lead and immediately gave up a solo home run to Rougned Odor on a 1-0 pitch to lead off the inning. However, the Astros closer was able to retire the next three batters he faced to to seal an 11-10 victory on an eventful night at Camden Yards. Pressly has converted his last 10 save attempts dating back to Aug. 9.

Castillo was recalled from Triple-A Omaha ahead of his start Sunday against the Mariners.

Castillo most recently logged a scoreless inning at Triple-A on Thursday and he has not made a traditional start since Sept. 15, so it's probably a long shot for Castillo to go deep enough to qualify for the win. He has pitched five or more innings in one of his 11 appearances in the majors this year. Castillo has been effective to the tune of a 2.97 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 28 strikeouts in 30.1 innings.
