Armstrong didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 7-2 win over the Marlins, allowing three hits over three scoreless innings. He struck out one without walking a batter.

Pressed into duty as a spot starter after Shane McClanahan (shoulder) was a late scratch, Armstrong fired 36 of 48 pitches for strikes in an impressive performance. The Rays will look for a more permanent replacement in the rotation for McClanahan, so Armstrong should return to the bullpen, but the right-hander has worked more than one inning in six of his last nine appearances and would likely be a key part of any future bullpen days for Tampa. In 33 games since joining the Rays, he sports a 3.73 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 47:9 K:BB through 41 innings.

The Orioles plan to recall Hall from Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Hall made his MLB debut earlier this month as a starter, but he was sent back to the minors immediately after that outing and has since pitched in relief for Norfolk. The Orioles still intend to develop Hall as a starter over the long term, but because he's already nearly tripled his innings count from a season ago -- he's covered 88 innings in 2022 compared to 31.2 in 2021 -- the organization will keep him in the bullpen the rest of the way in an effort to manage his workload. Once officially promoted, Hall will likely be eased in as a low-leverage reliever, but the rookie could eventually settle into a key setup role later in September if he impresses in his initial appearances out of the big-league bullpen.

Mayers (1-1) took the loss Tuesday versus the Yankees, allowing seven runs (five earned) on eight hits and two walks while striking out four over four innings.

The Yankees did their damage with the long ball, with three homers accounting for the five earned runs on Mayers' line. An error by Luis Rengifo in the third inning allowed two runs to score as well. Mayers' position in the rotation is far from secure, especially after long reliever Touki Toussaint delivered five innings of one-hit ball. Through 20 outings (two starts), Mayers owns a 5.17 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 36:14 K:BB through 38.1 innings this year. If he gets another turn in the rotation, he'd be lined up for a favorable home start versus the Tigers next week, though it's far from guaranteed he'll get that opportunity.

Jackson was placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with right shoulder inflammation.

Jackson hasn't seen game action since Aug. 24 and will now be unavailable for at least the next couple weeks due to the shoulder issue. Dany Jimenez (shoulder) was recently ruled out for the rest of the season, leaving A.J. Puk as the leading candidate for save opportunities going forward.

Lakins (elbow) moved his rehab assignment to Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday and allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out a batter in his three-inning appearance for the affiliate.

Lakins has already spent more than the minimum 60 days on the injured list, and based on his workload Sunday, he appears equipped to handle a multi-inning role out of the Baltimore bullpen. He could be a candidate to be activated Thursday, when the 26-man roster expands to 28.

The Rangers placed Sborz on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a right elbow sprain.

Sborz is eligible to return around the middle of September, but elbow sprains typically require more extended absences. A.J. Alexy was recalled to fill Sborz's spot in the Rangers' bullpen.

The Rangers recalled Alexy from Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday.

The right-hander, who has allowed three runs across two big-league relief appearances this season, rejoins the Rangers to replace Josh Sborz (elbow) in the bullpen. Alexy has never pitched particularly well in the big leagues and figures to handle low-leverage innings for however long he's at the MLB level.

Holmes struck out one batter in a perfect inning in Monday's loss to the Angels.

Holmes was activated from the injured list early Monday, and he was brought in with a runner on first base in the seventh inning with the Yankees down by two runs. The righty reliever was sharp, throwing six of seven pitches for strikes and notching one punchout. Holmes had been struggling in a closing role prior to hitting the IL, but he could reclaim that role quickly if he shows that he's back to form.

The Rays recalled Yarbrough from Triple-A Durham on Tuesday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

Tampa Bay optioned Yarbrough to Triple-A on Saturday since the team planned to get by with a four-man rotation during its five-game week, but reliever Ryan Thompson's (triceps) move to the injured list Tuesday prompted the team to bring Yarbrough back from the minors earlier than anticipated. Yarbrough is expected to work out of the bullpen for the next few days before likely slotting back into the rotation when a fifth starter is next required Sept. 6 versus the Red Sox.

Kelly allowed one hit and struck out two over a scoreless inning in Monday's 4-2 loss to the Twins.

Kelly, who was part of a bullpen shakeup following a blowout loss Sunday, made his MLB debut Monday. The 27-year-old Kelly and Kaleb Ort were called up, while Austin Davis and Hirokazu Sawamura were DFA'd. The bullpen has been a mess all season, and general manager Chaim Bloom needs to address it during the offseason. For now, the Red Sox are hopeful Kelly, who had a 2.72 ERA for Triple-A Worcester, could become a discovery like John Schreiber, a 28-year-old with a 2.22 for Boston in 2022.
