Wittgren (2-7) was tagged with the relief loss Saturday against the Red Sox after allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits across one-third of an inning.

Wittgren had the task of keeping the Red Sox off the score board in the 10th inning while beginning his outing with a runner in second, and he failed miserably. The right-hander allowed a single to Kyle Schwarber and a three-run homer to J.D. Martinez -- that would be all the Red Sox would need to close things out. This was Wittgren's second straight outing allowing a homer, and he has given up six runs (three earned) over his last seven appearances (nine innings). The six-year veteran owns a 4.56 ERA on the season.

Ottavino picked up the save Saturday in an extra-innings win over Cleveland after recording the final two outs of the game. He allowed one hit and struck out one.

The veteran reliever entered the game with one out in the 10th inning after Martin Perez had a wild outing -- he loaded the bases and struck out Bobby Bradley before allowing Ottavino to close things out. While he allowed an unearned run following an RBI single from Oscar Mercado, he also struck out Austin Hedges and retired Andres Gimenez on a groundout to pick up his 10th save of the season. He has gone 10-for-14 in save chances while also recording 20 holds to the tune of a 3.51 ERA, so Ottavino should remain one of Boston's top late-inning arms in the final weeks of the regular season.

Criswell was optioned to Triple-A following his start Friday.

Criswell's MLB debut didn't go as he would have hoped, as he left after allowing three runs while recording just four outs. He'll return to the minors to await his second opportunity, which could come in September.

The Mariners recalled Mills from Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday, Corey Brock of The Athletic reports.

Mills rejoins the Mariners just a day after being optioned to Tacoma. Having posted a 10.03 ERA in 11.2 big-league innings this season, the righty figures to pitch in nothing but the lowest-leverage situations during his latest stint with Seattle.

The Mariners placed Misiewicz on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a left forearm strain, Corey Brock of The Athletic reports.

The lefty last pitched Monday, when he walked a batter in a scoreless inning and showed no sign of injury. Details about the severity of Misiewicz's forearm strain and how long he might be sidelined should become clear in the next few days.

Yacabonis' contract was selected by the Mariners on Saturday.

Yacabonis rejoined the Mariners on a minor-league deal during the offseason, but he began the 2021 campaign at Triple-A Tacoma. The right-hander was effective across 24 appearances (one start) in the minors with a 1.72 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 31.1 innings, and he'll now join Seattle's bullpen as a low-leverage reliever.

Ramirez (0-2) was charged with the loss in an extra-innings defeat at the hands of the Royals on Friday, allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit over one inning. He struck out one.

Charged with preserving a 6-6 tie when he entered in the 12th inning, Ramirez retired the first two hitters he faced before surrendering a go-ahead two-run home run to Edward Olivares that would prove to be the difference in the contest. The stumble snapped a brief three-outing scoreless streak for Ramirez, who was notably making his fourth appearance in seven days Friday.

Andriese, who fired a scoreless seventh inning in an extra-innings loss to the Royals on Friday, has logged two perfect frames during which he's recorded two strikeouts since joining the Mariners on Aug. 22.

The veteran's pair of outings have unfolded the last two nights, with Andriese shining in each. The right-hander brings plenty of starting and long-relief experience to the table, which could make him a serviceable asset for manager Scott Servais in the Mariners' playoff push down the stretch.

Karinchak was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Saturday.

The righty allowed three runs without recording an out Friday and has posted a 9.75 ERA In 12 innings dating back to July 22. The demotion is shocking after Karinchak pitched to a 2.67 ERA and 53:16 K:BB in 2020, establishing himself as one of baseball's more dynamic setup relievers. He could find himself back with Cleveland soon enough, assuming he can resolve his command issues and regain some confidence at Triple-A. Bobby Bradley (knee) was activated from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.

Patino isn't expected to make his next start until Monday's series opener versus the Red Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

After making his last start Aug. 21, Patino appeared lined up to take the hill during this weekend's series in Baltimore, but the Rays will instead take advantage of their newfound rotation depth and push the 21-year-old right-hander back a couple days in the pitching schedule. Considering that Patino is already up to 81 innings in 2021 between the majors and Triple-A Durham after he tossed only 17.1 innings in 2020, the Rays are likely cognizant of managing the right-hander's workload down the stretch. Given that Patino has been one of the Rays' more reliable starters, he doesn't appear at risk of moving to the bullpen or being shut down just yet, but expect him to receive more time off between outings in light of the emergence of Drew Rasmussen and the return of Chris Archer from the injured list.
