Thornton underwent surgery to remove loose bodies in his right elbow Tuesday, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports.

Tommy John surgery appeared to be potentially on the table when it was reported Monday that Thornton was meeting with Dr. James Andrews, but the procedure he wound up undergoing was a different one. He's expected to be ready to go for the start of the 2021 campaign.

Hill was optioned to Cleveland's alternate training site Tuesday.

Hill had been on the roster since Opening Day and posted a 3.95 ERA and 0.66 WHIP in 13.2 innings of work. He'll make way on the roster for Zach Plesac, who was recalled to start against the Royals in a corresponding move.

Weber will step into the rotation to start Tuesday's game against the Braves, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Weber has bounced between the rotation and the bullpen on multiple occasions just over a month into the season, which speaks to the Red Sox's dearth of appealing starting options more than anything else. Manager Ron Roenicke has been unwilling to commit to Kyle Hart receiving another turn through the rotation, so a strong showing by Weber on Tuesday could be enough for the right-hander to receive additional starts.

Coulombe cleared waivers Tuesday and was outrighted to the Twins' alternate training site, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.

Coulombe made a pair of appearances for the Twins in late August, his first big-league outings since 2018, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings. He'll remain in an organizational depth role for the club.

Anderson (forearm) completed what manager Kevin Cash said was a "very encouraging" live batting practice session Monday in Port Charlotte, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

This news comes on the heels of Anderson completing a successful 15-pitch bullpen session Saturday. The fact Anderson looked good against live hitters 48 hours later led Cash to remark the hard-throwing reliever could very well be ready for activation when the Rays return from their road trip Friday.

Rogers (1-3) was tagged with the loss Monday against the White Sox. He gave up three runs (all unearned) on three hits while fanning one in one inning.

Rogers has allowed two or more hits in six of his last nine appearances and has given up runs in three of his last four contests, but the 29-year-old left-hander should still be considered the top candidate for saves in Minnesota. He owns a 3.60 ERA in his last five appearances.

Andriese (1-2) was tagged with the loss against Seattle on Monday, throwing 1.2 innings and allowing one run on one hit and one walk while striking out two.

Andriese came on in the fifth inning and retired the final two batters of the frame, but a Jose Marmolejos solo homer in the following inning was enough to saddle the right-hander with a loss in the low-scoring affair. Andriese had aspirations of starting to begin the season but has struggled throughout the campaign, posting a 6.41 ERA and 1.47 WHIP over 19.2 innings.

Foster (4-0) struck out two over a scoreless inning to earn the win over Minnesota on Monday.

Foster, who entered a tied game in the eighth inning, picked up his fourth win as a reliever with the assistance of Chicago's powerful offense, which plated three runs in the ninth. The 25-year-old right-hander has added a boost to the bullpen, recording a 1.13 ERA and 20 strikeouts over 16 innings.

Colome closed out Monday's 8-5 win over the Twins with a scoreless ninth inning and recorded the save. He walked one and struck out one.

Colome recorded his seventh save with the help of Chicago's offense that posted six runs from innings six through nine. He's allowed just one earned run over 13.1 innings.

Bummer's biceps muscle has healed, but he's now dealing with a nerve issue near the biceps, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

White Sox general manager Rick Hahn explained that this is not a long-term issue but acknowledged the possibility that Bummer may not return in the shortened 2020 season. "It really comes down to getting that nerve calmed down and then as we ramp him up, which we have started to do on a throwing program, how the nerve responds. It's quite possible, based on how the throwing program lays out, that you see us at some point put him on the 45-day IL," said Hahn. With Bummer sidelined, Evan Marshall has picked up a majority of the setup work in front of closer Alex Colome.
