Pagan earned the save against San Diego on Tuesday, striking out all four batters he faced on 17 pitches.

Pagan completely dominated the heart of the Padres lineup, tossing strikes on 13 of 17 pitches while whiffing each hitter who came up against him. After a rough July in which he blew three of seven save opportunities and registered a 4.38 ERA, Pagan has returned to his dominant ways in August, converting all five save chances while allowing only one run in 6.2 innings and racking up 12 strikeouts.

Johnson will start Wednesday's game at Cleveland, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.

The Red Sox were considering utilizing an opener Wednesday, but Johnson will instead receive the starting nod. The 28-year-old has struggled in his two outings since coming off the injured list Aug. 3, allowing six runs on 10 hits with a 3:2 K:BB across 5.2 innings. Considering to his lighter workloads in those appearances, Johnson likely won't be asked to work especially deep into Wednesday's start.

Schreiber was optioned to Triple-A Toledo following Tuesday's loss to the Mariners, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Schreiber had his contract selected from Triple-A last week and allowed three runs on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts over his first 1.2 big-league frames. The 25-year-old returns to Toledo, where he has a 2.83 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 59:20 K:BB over 47.2 innings.

Giles allowed one walk and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save Tuesday against the Rangers.

Giles made his first appearance since Aug. 7 but showed little rust, allowing only a walk en route to his 16th save of the season. This outing strengthens the probability that Giles avoids the injured list, as he consistently sat between 96 and 97 mph with his fastball. For the season, he maintains a strong 1.89 ERA and 1.11 WHIP while striking out 62 across 38 innings.

Manaea (shoulder) is expected to require one more rehab start with Triple-A Las Vegas before potentially rejoining the Athletics, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Manaea restarted his rehab assignment Tuesday with Las Vegas and allowed two runs on four hits with 10 strikeouts and two walks over 5.2 innings. The 27-year-old made five rehab appearances in July before a bout of side soreness caused him to shut things down for a couple days. Manaea threw 82 pitches Tuesday so he could be fully stretched out for a starting workload after an additional rehab start.

Devenski is starting Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the White Sox, Julia Morales of AT&T SportsNet Southwest reports.

Scheduled starter Gerrit Cole was scratched shortly before first pitch for undisclosed reasons, pushing Devenski into the start on short notice. The 28-year-old threw 25 pitches in Sunday's relief appearance, so he should be limited to a couple innings as the Astros are forced into a bullpen game.

Rodriguez was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday.

Rodriguez was recalled from Salt Lake on Monday and returns to the minors after eating up four innings during the 10-2 series-opening loss. The 23-year-old has given up three runs on five hits across 5.2 innings during his first taste of the majors this season.

Chavez was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a right elbow impingement, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

It's unclear as to when this injury cropped up, but Chavez has surrendered five runs over his last two outings, so it could explain his recent struggles. David Carpenter has been recalled from Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move.

Stewart was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Stewart picked up the win Monday against the Rangers as the team's primary pitcher, but he'll head back down to Triple-A prior to Tuesday's matchup. Rowdy Tellez was recalled in a corresponding move.

Abreu (shoulder) was reinstated from the 7-day injured list Tuesday.

Abreu landed on the MiLB injured list near the end of July due to a shoulder issue, but he's since returned to health and will be ready for action with Double-A Trenton moving forward. He owns a 3.81 ERA with 77 strikeouts over 82.2 innings this season with the Thunder.
