Brasier returned from the bereavement list as expected Monday, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Brasier had been out since Tuesday. Travis Lakins and Josh Smith were optioned in corresponding moves for the activations of Brasier and Hector Velazquez (back), who returned from the injured list.

Trivino (2-5) allowed four runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks over one-third of an inning in a loss to the Mariners on Sunday. He was also charged with his fourth blown save.

Trivino was partly done in by a dropped fly ball on the part of Mark Canha in right field in the eighth, but he also issued a four-pitch walk to Daniel Vogelbach and allowed a two-run double to Kyle Seager. Trivino ultimately found the strike zone on just seven of 18 pitches and has now allowed 16 runs (12 earned) over the last 8.2 innings. His five losses rank second among American League relievers, while his four blown saves makes him an AL co-leader in that dubious category. However, for the time being, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports that manager Bob Melvin is vowing not to overreact to the right-hander's atypical struggles with any drastic role changes or a temporary demotion to Triple-A Las Vegas. "The reason I'm reluctant to say I'd move him around the bullpen is because I haven't talked to him yet," Melvin said. "But this guy is really good, he's just going through a tough stretch. Whether or not we need to give him a little break from that role, we'll discuss it internally. But he's still got good stuff."

Garcia is slated to serve as the Angels' opening pitcher for Monday's game against the Blue Jays, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

The Angels have most frequently used Cam Bedrosian as the opener ahead of primary pitcher Felix Pena, but with manager Brad Ausmus increasingly leaning on Bedrosian for late-inning work in recent days, Garcia will get the chance to "start." Monday will mark Garcia's second turn as an opener this season, with the right-hander having previously tossed a clean inning ahead of Pena in a May 30 victory over the Mariners. Expect Garcia to be limited to around 1-to-2 innings again before giving way to Pena.

Covey (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Saturday followed by playing catch out to 150 feet Sunday, Brian Sandalow of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Covey reported no setbacks from the throwing sessions and feels it is a step in the right direction. It's good news for Covey and the White Sox, who watched fill-in Odrisamer Despaigne get rocked by the Yankees on Sunday.

Jurado (4-3) allowed seven runs on nine hits with no strikeouts and one walk across three innings while taking a loss against the Rangers on Sunday.

With this stinker, Jurado snapped his streak of four straight quality starts. His ERA also shot up more than a run. His numbers aren't nearly as good as before Sunday, but he's still been a pleasant surprise to owners in 2019. Jurado is 4-3 with a 4.23 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 34 strikeouts in 44.2 innings this season. He will look to get back on track at home against the White Sox on Friday.

Manager Bob Melvin said Sunday that Manaea (shoulder) would pitch in one more simulated game at extended spring training before beginning a minor-league rehab assignment, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports

Per Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, Manaea relayed that he felt "great" while throwing "a lot of strikes" during 45-pitch simulated game Saturday. With Manaea reporting no renewed discomfort in his surgically repaired throwing shoulder a day later, he'll test himself against hitters in Arizona once more, likely covering around 60 pitches. The Athletics had been targeting late July or early August for Manaea's return to the big club, but based on where he's currently at in his recovery, there seems to be growing optimism the 26-year-old could be ready to go shortly after the All-Star break in mid-July.

Junis yielded two runs on five hits and three walks across 3.2 innings Sunday, striking out five and taking the no-decision in the win over Minnesota.

Junis narrowly escaped the first inning unscathed after loading up the bases. He later gave up a solo shot to Miguel Sano and an RBI single to Max Kepler in the fourth that ended his afternoon. Junis was very inefficient, needing 92 pitches despite the short start. He'll carry an unsightly 5.33 ERA into a rematch with the Twins at home on Friday.

Johnson allowed one run on five hits and two walks while striking out two over three innings Sunday in a no-decision against the Orioles.

Johnson gave up just one run in the third inning on an infield single, but he was pulled in the fourth after the first two batters of the inning reached on singles. He struggled to consistently pound the strike zone, hurling just 41 of 70 pitches for strikes on the day. Despite his struggles, the 28-year-old is expected to remain in the starting rotation until Nathan Eovaldi (elbow) is cleared to return.

Thornton (2-5) yielded six hits and three walks across 6.2 scoreless innings Sunday, striking out seven and earning the win over the Astros.

Thornton received mounds of run support in the 12-0 win, including a quick 2-0 lead before he threw his first pitch. The rookie righty lowered his season ERA to 4.36 in 76.1 innings of work. He'll carry his 80:37 K:BB into Friday's tough matchup in Boston.

Beeks yielded two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out two over three innings Sunday against the Angels.

Beeks came on with one out in the second inning, but he wasn't sharp in the series finale. He surrendered a run in the third inning on a sacrifice fly and gave up another in the fifth on an infield single. Despite a shaky outing, the 25-year-old southpaw owns a 2.73 ERA with 49 punchouts over 56 innings this season.
