Vasquez landed on the 7-day injured list with a left shoulder strain Tuesday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.

Vasquez spent some time on the injured list with a shoulder impingement in mid-May, and he doesn't appear to be fully clear of the issue. The lefty owns a 6.14 ERA in 14.2 innings for Triple-A Rochester.

Pressly pitched a clean ninth inning to record his third save in Monday's 4-2 win over the Mariners.

Pressly came on to protect Houston's lead presumably because closer Roberto Osuna was given the day off. Osuna had thrown 22 pitches Sunday and didn't pitch Saturday, so he should have been good to go. It could be he was given an off day after a stretch during which Osuna pitched six times in nine days and was rocked for a 7.50 ERA.

McHugh (elbow) played catch Monday but offered no significant update on his rehab, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

The Astros are slow-rolling McHugh's return from elbow discomfort, which is the prudent thing to do. Thoughts of McHugh's return pop up after his eventual replacement in the rotation, Corbin Martin, couldn't get out of the fourth inning for a third straight start Monday. Prior to being placed on the injured list, McHugh had been working out of the bullpen, but Martin's struggles could eventually lead to McHugh's return to a starting role.

Martin gave up two earned runs on four hits over three innings in a no-decision in the Astros' 4-2 win over the Mariners on Monday. He struck out three and walked three.

Martin struggled with his efficiency in this start, issuing three free passes, giving up two solo homers and throwing 76 pitches before getting chased from the contest after just three innings. That's been a recurring theme for the 23-year-old, as he hasn't made it to the five-inning threshold since his first start of the season on May 12. Martin is now sporting a 5.59 ERA, a 1.81 WHIP and a 19:12 K:BB through 19.1 innings. He's been shaky but there aren't any obvious options at the Astros' disposal to take his rotation spot at the moment, so he should keep a hold on it for the time being.

Gearrin will serve as the opener for Monday's game against the Astros, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

Gearrin will likely pitch one or two innings before giving way to left-hander Wade LeBlanc, who is expected to cover the majority of innings Monday. In 26 appearances this season (all in relief), Gearrin owns a 3.22 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 27:13 K:BB in 22.1 innings.

Curtiss was designated for assignment by the Angels on Monday.

This move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for Michael Hermosillo, who was activated from the 60-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday. Curtiss made just one appearance for the Angels this season, allowing one run on two hits and three walks while striking out one across 2.1 innings.

Tate (undisclosed) was activated from the injured list and demoted to High-A Frederick on Monday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.

Tate made two starts and three relief appearances for Double-A Bowie prior to landing on the injured list in late April. He struggled to a 6.08 ERA after posting a 5.75 ERA in seven starts for Bowie last season. He'll drop down to High-A to sort himself out, a level at which he hasn't pitched since 2017.

Heller (elbow) recently resumed facing hitters in extended spring training games, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.

The Yankees haven't pinpointed a target date for Heller's return from the 60-day injured list, but he likely won't be an option for the big-league bullpen until after the All-Star break. Heller is just under 14 months removed from Tommy John surgery.

The Blue Jays are expected to activate Mayza (forearm) from the 10-day injured list ahead of Tuesday's game against the Yankees, Mike Wilner of Sportsnet 590 The Fan reports.

Toronto telegraphed Mayza's potential return to the bullpen by optioning reliever Justin Shafer to Triple-A Buffalo on Monday. If reinstated, Mayza should quickly step back into a key setup role after missing the minimum amount of time with left forearm tightness. Prior to landing on the IL, Mayza registered a 3.48 ERA and seven holds in 25 appearances.

Shafer was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Monday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Shafer spent less than a week on the big-league roster. He allowed two runs and posted a 2:5 K:BB in 3.2 innings of work.
