  • Ryan Yarbrough RP | NYY

Rays' Ryan Yarbrough: Could qualify for win Wednesday

Yarbrough is slated to serve as the long man Wednesday in Texas, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Diego Castillo will serve as the opener, but Yarbrough is expected to log the bulk of the innings. Yarbrough typically gets a chance to qualify for the win when he comes in after the Rays' opener, but after logging five-plus innings in three straight appearances from Aug. 20 to Sept. 2, Yarbrough has logged 3.2 innings and two innings in his last two appearances, respectively.

  • Matt Barnes RP | WAS

Red Sox's Matt Barnes: Could get into game action soon

Barnes (hip) expects to get in a game soon, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Barnes hasn't pitched since Sept. 3 due to hip inflammation. He's been throwing full-speed bullpen sessions and appears to be ready to go.

  • Hunter Harvey RP | CHC

Orioles' Hunter Harvey: Experiences elbow soreness

Harvey (shoulder) experienced elbow soreness while throwing in the instructional league Tuesday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

Injuries are nothing new for Harvey, who has been limited to 63.2 innings over the last four seasons. His 32.1 innings for Double-A Bowie this season represent his highest total since 2014, but he's had a long list of issues this year as well. He's now on his third setback in his recovery from his latest injury, a dislocated shoulder suffered back in early June. He first battled forearm stiffness and has now dealt with elbow tendinitis and elbow soreness. The severity of this latest issue is not yet clear.

  • Luis Ortiz RP | NYM

Orioles' Luis Ortiz: Shut down for season

Ortiz (hamstring) will not pitch again this season, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

Ortiz suffered a hamstring injury in the second inning of his first career start Friday and will be shut down for the year. There hasn't been anything to suggest this is a particularly serious injury, so he should be ready to go by the start of spring training.

  • Michael Fulmer RP | NYY

Tigers' Michael Fulmer: Expected to undergo knee surgery

Fulmer is expected to undergo surgery for a torn right meniscus Thursday, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Fulmer will receive a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday but the expectation is that surgery will be necessary. The recovery time for such a surgery is typically three or four months, which should give Fulmer plenty of time to recover before spring training.

  • Yankees' Aroldis Chapman: Returning Wednesday or Thursday

Chapman (knee) will be activated from the 10-day disabled list Wednesday or Thursday, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.

Chapman felt good after Monday's simulated game and will return after nearly a month-long absence. He should quickly resume his role as the Yankees' closer, though it wouldn't be surprising to see him receive at least one low-leverage inning since he didn't get to make a rehab appearance.

  • Alex Colome RP | CHW

Mariners' Alex Colome: Fires scoreless inning Monday

Colome (illness) picked up his 28th hold of the season Monday against the Astros, striking out one across a perfect inning.

Colome ended up missing just one game with an illness. The 29-year-old reliever owns a 3.18 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 71:19 K:BB across 65 innings with the Rays and Mariners this season. He'll continue to fill a setup role for Seattle down the stretch with Edwin Diaz locked in as the closer.

  • Edwin Diaz RP | LAD

Mariners' Edwin Diaz: Seals 56th save

Diaz picked up his 56th save of the season in Monday's win over the Astros. He needed just five pitches to complete a perfect ninth inning.

Diaz now has two saves in the last three days after only having one in the previous 10. While he will likely fall short of K-Rod's record of 62 saves, Diaz has established himself as one of the best closers in all of baseball.

  • Evan Phillips RP | LAD

Orioles' Evan Phillips: Surrenders three in bullpen game

Phillips (0-1) allowed three runs on three hits while striking out two and taking the loss Monday against the Blue Jays.

Phillips didn't find much success in his first appearance as an opener, giving up three runs in the second inning. He hasn't found much success since joining the Orioles from the Braves, allowing 11 earned runs over just 5.1 innings. Phillips figures to shift back to the bullpen following Monday's series opener.

  • Ryan Borucki RP | SF

Blue Jays' Ryan Borucki: Tosses gem vs. O's

Borucki (4-4) threw eight scoreless innings, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out seven over eight innings and picking up the win Monday against Baltimore.

Borucki kept the Orioles off the board, eventually exiting a 4-0 ballgame with 105 pitches (67 strikes). He's been a reliable starter for the Blue Jays in 15 starts this season, owning a 3.86 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with 57 strikeouts across 84 innings. Borucki's next appearance is lined up for Saturday against Tampa Bay.
