  • Ryan Yarbrough RP | NYY

Rays' Ryan Yarbrough: Expected to start Friday

Yarbrough will start for the Rays on Friday against the Blue Jays unless he's needed in the bullpen Wednesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Yarbrough has appeared in seven games for the Rays this season, starting one. He has a respectable 4.19 ERA, though his peripherals suggest he's not pitching like someone who deserves many more opportunities. His ERA seems to have remained palatable only due to an unsustainable .228 BABIP. His strikeout rate (18.4 percent) and walk rate (11.5 percent) are both below average.

  • Emilio Pagan RP | CIN

Athletics' Emilio Pagan: Optioned to Triple-A Nashville

Pagan was sent to Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.

Pagan has struggled over 12 appearances with Oakland this season, logging a 5.93 ERA and 1.76 WHIP with a 7:4 BB in 13.2 innings of relief. The 26-year-old will look to fix some issues at the Triple-A level before rejoining the Athletics at a later date. In a corresponding move, the club recalled Brett Anderson up from the minors ahead of his start against Seattle on Wednesday.

  • Trevor May RP | ATH

Twins' Trevor May: Partakes in extended spring game

May (elbow) tossed three innings during an extended spring training outing Tuesday and will likely embark on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Rochester in the near future, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

This marked the first time May hit the mound in a live game since undergoing Tommy John surgery last March. It appears as though the right-hander may participate in a couple more outings in extended spring training before heading to Rochester, but he remains on track for a return around the end of the month.

  • Matt Belisle RP | CLE

Indians' Matt Belisle: Designated for assignment

Belisle was designated for assignment by Cleveland on Wednesday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Belisle appeared in eight games for the Indians during the first month of the 2018 season, accumulating a 5.06 ERA and 0.94 WHIP with a 4:1 K:BB over 10.2 innings of relief. The 38-year-old will be subjected to waivers, though he will report to Triple-A Columbus if he goes unclaimed by another organization. In a corresponding move, Cleveland recalled Ben Taylor from the Clippers.

  • Lou Trivino RP | PHI

Athletics' Lou Trivino: Rocky appearance in Tuesday's loss

Trivino allowed an earned run on two hits and a walk over 1.1 innings in a loss to the Mariners on Tuesday. He also recorded a strikeout.

It took five appearances, but Trivino was finally scored on in the big leagues. The 26-year-old reliever had been pitching to some contact in his previous appearances, but he'd been able to avoid trouble until Tuesday. Despite the slight hiccup, Trivino sports an impressive 1.29 ERA and 10:2 K:BB over the seven innings encompassing his five trips to the mound.

  • Chris Martin RP | TEX

Rangers' Chris Martin: Placed on disabled list

Martin landed on the disabled list due to forearm irritation, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Martin was removed from Monday's contest with forearm cramps and although he's continued to experience some irritation in the past couple days, the Rangers seem confident that he won't miss an extended period of time. The right-hander will be eligible to come off the DL on May 11 since his placement on the shelf was retroactive to Tuesday. In a corresponding move, Texas recalled Nick Gardewine from the minors.

  • Edwin Diaz RP | LAD

Mariners' Edwin Diaz: Notches save despite control issues

Diaz recorded his 12th save in a win over the Athletics on Tuesday, allowing two walks and recording two strikeouts over a scoreless ninth inning.

Diaz had to work a bit more than usual, firing 22 pitches overall in the ninth. The normally sharp closer got only 12 of his offerings into the strike zone while issuing walks to Matt Olson and Mark Canha, the second coming with two outs. However, Diaz was able to regroup and get a slider past Chad Pinder for a called third strike to end the game. The 24-year-old has given up just one run this season, and he's now recorded multiple strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

  • Joe Kelly RP | LAD

Red Sox's Joe Kelly: Returns from suspension

Kelly (suspension) was reinstated to the Red Sox's active roster prior to Wednesday's game, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Kelly was forced to serve a six-game suspension due to his role in a benches-clearing brawl against the Yankees on April 12. The reliever will slide back into his high-leverage role immediately. He's logged a 3.09 ERA and 0.86 WHIP over 11.2 innings in 11 appearances this season.

  • Corbin Martin RP | CHC

Astros' Corbin Martin: Promoted to Corpus Christi

Martin was promoted to Double-A Corpus Christi and will make his debut for the Hooks on Thursday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

It didn't take Martin too long to convince the Astros he needed a greater challenge than High-A Buies Creek. Over four starts and 19 innings in the Carolina League, the 22-year-old right-hander allowed one unearned run on four hits and seven walks while striking out 26. The biggest knock on Martin at the University of Texas was a high walk rate, but he's shown improvement in that area since joining the Astros' organization. The Hempstead (Tex.) native was quick to credit everyone involved, telling Tyler Martin of MiLB.com that his catcher, the defense behind him and his pitching coach have helped him achieve success early on in 2018.

  • Ken Giles RP | ATL

Astros' Ken Giles: Allows four runs in loss Tuesday

Giles (0-1) gave up four runs on four hits in a loss to the Yankees on Tuesday, recording only one out by way of a strikeout while walking zero.

Giles entered a scoreless game in the ninth, and proceeded to give up a single to Aaron Judge and a double to Didi Gregorius before striking out Giancarlo Stanton. Giles laid in a first-pitch slider to Gary Sanchez, which the Yankees backstop deposited over the center field wall. After giving up a single to the next batter, Giles got the hook. The right-hander was riding a 1.80 ERA into Tuesday's contest, and had allowed runs to score only twice before through 11 appearances. Despite the Astros' 20-11 record, Giles has just three saves, as sometimes save opportunities are going to other guys like Chris Devenski (two saves). Giles should hold his role as primary closer as long as there aren't many other outings like Tuesday's.
