  • Aaron Bummer RP | KC

White Sox's Aaron Bummer: Summoned to majors

The White Sox called up Bummer from Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports.

The 23-year-old left-hander compiled a solid 3.00 ERA in 33 innings with Double-A Birmingham, accompanied by 34 strikeouts and 16 walks. Bummer will occupy a depth role for a club suddenly lacking reliable high-leverage relievers, considering the White Sox traded David Robertson, Tommy Kahnle, Anthony Swarzak and Dan Jennings in the last week or so.

  • Tyler Duffey RP | KC

Twins' Tyler Duffey: Mixed results in bullpen

Duffey has posted a 4.63 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 46 strikeouts in 46.2 innings in his first season as a reliever.

After coming up in the Twins' farm system as a starter, Duffey struggled in the rotation for two seasons before moving to the bullpen. Now as a reliever, Duffey has been able to pump up his velocity to 92 mph on average, and with that increase has come an improvement in strikeout rate.

  • Buddy Boshers RP | HOU

Twins' Buddy Boshers: ERA improvement a mirage

Boshers has struck out 21 with an ERA of 3.86 in 25.2 innings this season.

Compared to 2016, the ERA is down from 4.25, but the peripherals suggest he's been significantly worse this season (4.59 FIP, 2.84 in 2016).

  • Blake Treinen RP | LAD

Athletics' Blake Treinen: Continues impressing in loss

Treinen notched his fourth hold in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Blue Jays, allowing a hit and recording a strikeout over a scoreless eighth inning.

The 29-year-old right-hander did his job in preserving a 2-0 lead after rookie Paul Blackburn had twirled a dominant seven frames. Treinen's usage in a high-leverage scenario such as Wednesday's is telling, as manager Bob Melvin appears to be increasingly confident in the recent trade acquisition. Factoring in Wednesday's production, Treinen has given up just one unearned run on two hits over six scoreless innings since arriving in Oakland while also logging four holds.

  • Brad Boxberger RP | CHC

Rays' Brad Boxberger: Bounces back in victory

Boxberger fired a scoreless ninth inning in Wednesday's 5-1 win over the Orioles, allowing a hit and recording two strikeouts.

Boxberger fired 11 of his 14 pitches for strikes while erasing the bad taste of his two most recent appearances -- outings in which he'd given up a combined four earned runs over two innings. The 29-year-old right-hander is likely to continue seeing plenty of eighth-inning work in games where the Rays have a lead, allowing him to serve as a bridge to closer Alex Colome. However, given that he compiled plenty of ninth-inning experience in his own right prior to this season, Boxberger could also see the occasional save opportunity in games where Colome isn't available.

  • Austin Pruitt RP | TEX

Rays' Austin Pruitt: Confirmed for Friday start

Pruitt will start Friday against the Yankees, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The 6.25 ERA he has in 31.2 major-league innings hides decent control, but a trip to hitter-friendly Yankee Stadium doesn't offer Pruitt much upside as a fantasy streamer. He'll probably leave the rotation once Jake Odorizzi (back) resurfaces from the 10-day disabled list.

  • John Axford RP | MIL

Athletics' John Axford: Designated for assignment

Axford was designated for assignment by the A's on Thursday.

Axford has given up an earned run in five of his last six outings, and things got particularly bad Monday when he gave up two walks and an earned run before recording an out. Another suitor could always take a risk on a 34-year-old sporting a 6.73 ERA, but if not, he may elect to remain in the Oakland system with hopes of a shot at redemption down the stretch.

  • Reynaldo Lopez RP | ATL

White Sox's Reynaldo Lopez: Looking ready in Charlotte

Lopez allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out 10 over five innings for Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday.

This was the sixth straight start that Lopez has allowed two or fewer runs. He's struck out 49 and walked just eight over his last 36.2 innings. General manager Rick Hahn told Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times that Lopez is "getting close; he's forcing the issue," noting how impressive Lopez's recent stretch has been.

  • Red Sox's Craig Kimbrel: Breezes through two outs for 25th save

Kimbrel faced two Mariners in the ninth inning Wednesday and struck them both out for his 25th save.

With the Sox nursing a 4-0 lead, Blaine Boyer started the inning on the heels of a successful eighth, but after he put two men on -- creating a save situation -- manager John Farrell turned to Kimbrel. The veteran closer made short work of the two Seattle hitters he faced, requiring just nine pitches to dispatch Mitch Haniger and Carlos Ruiz. Kimbrel's turned back the clock to his old superstar days with the Braves, as he's on pace to finish with a sub-2.00 ERA for the first time since 2014.

  • Daniel Norris RP | CLE

Tigers' Daniel Norris: Will receive cortisone shot

Norris (groin) is set to receive a cortisone shot Wednesday, followed by a few days of rest before restarting his rehab assignment, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Norris suffered a setback during Sunday's rehab start, re-injuring his groin after just 32 pitches with Triple-A Toledo. The left-hander should be able to continue with his recovery by early next week, barring any other setbacks following the injection. It seems likely that Norris will require a couple more appearances at the minor-league level before rejoining the Tigers, placing his return around the timeframe of mid-August.
