  • Indians' Shawn Armstrong: Recalled from Columbus

Armstrong was called up by the Indians on Wednesday.

Armstrong has spent most of the year bouncing back and forth between Cleveland and Triple-A Columbus, and will rejoin the major-league club after spending a couple weeks down with the Clippers. During 16 appearances with the Indians this year, Armstrong has posted an ERA of 4.26 with a 1.11 WHIP and should figure to slide into low-leverage roles while he's back in the big leagues.

  • Brian Flynn RP | KC

Royals' Brian Flynn: Optioned to Triple-A

Flynn was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday.

Flynn was sent down in order to make room for the recently acquired Trevor Cahill, who will making his Kansas City debut on Saturday against the Red Sox. After earning a promotion to the big leagues Monday, Flynn heads back to Omaha without getting an opportunity over the past couple games. The reliever has struggled with Omaha this season, posting a 7.29 ERA and 2.14 WHIP in 21 innings.

  • Twins' Stephen Gonsalves: Promotion on the horizon?

    Gonsalves, 23, has a 2.78 ERA and 88:17 K:BB in 74.1 innings at Double-A Chattanooga.

Gonsalves has little left to prove at this level. In 2016, he also pitched 74.1 innings at Double-A, posting a 1.82 ERA and 89:37 K:BB. His control has been even better in 2017. The argument could be made that he's the top prospect for the Twins, and he should see Triple-A in short order.

  • Twins' Hector Santiago: Struggles in rehab outing

Santiago (back) gave up four runs (three earned) on three hits and two walks in one inning Tuesday in a rehab appearance for Triple-A Rochester.

Santiago is scheduled to make at least three appearances during his rehab assignment. With the Twins trading for Jamie Garcia, Santiago appears likely to move to the bullpen when he returns from the disabled list.

  • Red Sox's Craig Kimbrel: Strikes out side in non-save situation

Kimbrel stuck out three with a walk and a hit in one inning during a non-save situation Tuesday against the Mariners.

It was Kimbrel's first appearance in a week, and the hurler seemed rested as he struck out three after giving up a leadoff single. The closer is on pace to pass 100 strikeouts in a season for the first time since 2012 when he had 116 during his second full campaign with Atlanta.

  • Edwin Diaz RP | LAD

Mariners' Edwin Diaz: Effective in non-save scenario

Diaz fired a scoreless ninth inning in Tuesday's 6-5 extra-inning win over the Red Sox, allowing a hit and a walk.

The young closer had a different role than usual Tuesday, as he was asked to preserve a 4-4 tie. Diaz succeeded while disposing of Xander Bogaerts, Mitch Moreland and Mookie Betts, working around a Christian Vazquez single and Rafael Devers walk. It was a positive outing overall for Diaz, who'd blown a save against the Yankees last Saturday in his most recent appearance. Despite that stumble, he's enjoyed a strong July overall, compiling a 1.54 ERA and six saves over 11.2 innings across 11 appearances.

  • Tony Zych RP | NYY

Mariners' Tony Zych: Nabs win in extras Tuesday

Zych (5-2) gave up an earned run on two hits and a walk over two innings in Tuesday's 6-5 extra-inning win over the Red Sox. He struck out three.

Zych had surrendered the go-ahead run on a single by Sandy Leon on the top half of the 13th, but he walked away with his fifth victory of the season thanks to the Mariners' heroics in the home half of the frame. The 26-year-old saw his nine-appearance scoreless streak snapped with that stumble, but he continues to serve as one of the most effective relief options of either handedness on the Mariners.

  • Austin Pruitt RP | TEX

Rays' Austin Pruitt: Could be called up for Friday start

Pruitt could be a candidate to make a spot start Friday against the Yankees in place of the injured Jake Odorizzi (back), Steve Carney of Sports Radio 620 WDAE reports.

Perhaps in anticipation of Odorizzi's surprise placement on the disabled list Wednesday, the Rays scratched Pruitt from his scheduled start with Triple-A Durham a night earlier. While Pruitt lacks the upside of the Rays' top pitching prospect, Brent Honeywell -- who could be a candidate to join the rotation himself if Odorizzi's injury proves to be a long-term concern -- the 27-year-old has been no slouch at Durham this season, accruing a 2.55 ERA and 0.79 WHIP while submitting a 33:2 K:BB over 24.2 innings. However, Pruitt has struggled to carry over that success in his 18 appearances (one start) with Tampa Bay, delivering a 6.25 ERA in 31.2 innings, so he'll probably need to find some success at the big-league level before generating much intrigue in the fantasy realm.

  • Rays' Andrew Kittredge: Rejoins big club

Kittredge was recalled from Triple-A Durham on Wednesday, Steve Carney of Sports Radio 620 WDAE reports.

Kittredge was sent back to the minors just two days earlier, but he'll be eligible to rejoin the big club following Jake Odorizzi's (lower back) surprise placement on the disabled list. The Rays aren't expected to carve out a major role in the bullpen for Kittredge, who figures to see most of his appearances as a mop-up man in less competitive contests.

  • Drew Pomeranz RP | CHC

Red Sox's Drew Pomeranz: Escapes with no-decision

Pomeranz allowed three runs on four hits and four walks while striking out seven over five innings in Tuesday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Mariners.

Pomeranz put the Red Sox in an early hole when he served up a three-run home run to Seattle's Guillermo Heredia and left after throwing 105 pitches over five innings. The left-hander had been effective of late, having entered Tuesday's contest with a 4-0 record and 2.13 ERA over his previous seven starts. He's next scheduled to start Monday at home against the Indians.
