  • Yankees' Dellin Betances: Not available Wednesday

Betances will not be available out of the Yankees' bullpen Wednesday night, Meredith Marakovits of the YES Network reports.

Betances will get a night off after being summoned from the bullpen three straight days and throwing 40 pitches in Tuesday's contest. Tyler Clippard is expected to serve as the closer if the team finds itself in a save situation Wednesday night.

  • Sean Manaea SP | NYM

Athletics' Sean Manaea: To return to rotation Sept. 14

Manaea (back) has been cleared to start Sept. 14 in Kansas City, the Bay Area News Group's John Hickey reports.

He will face live hitters in a simulated game Saturday, and assuming he makes it through that without any setbacks, he'll slot back into the rotation next Wednesday. Manaea has thrown 142.1 innings this year after throwing 74.1 in 2015, so he may be nearing an innings cap. However, the A's have the ability to use a six-man rotation through the end of the season, which could allow Manaea to close out his first big league campaign with a few more starts.

  • Chad Green RP | TOR

Yankees' Chad Green: Placed on 15-day DL

Green (elbow) was placed on the 15-day DL on Wednesday.

The move is retroactive to Sept. 3, but Green is not expected to return this season. He revealed Tuesday that his UCL is intact, so he will elect to try to rehab a strained flexor tendon without undergoing surgery. It is encouraging that he won't need Tommy John surgery, but he still faces an important offseason of rest and rehab to get ready for spring training.

  • Yankees' Dellin Betances: Likely unavailable Wednesday after 40 pitches

Betances allowed two runs on two hits and three walks while recording just one out in Tuesday's win over the Blue Jays.

Pitching on a third consecutive day, the normally reliable Yankees closer was mostly ineffective, but after being pulled with the bases loaded and one out, Blake Parker came in and was able to navigate the team to a win. Betances threw 40 pitches Tuesday and will likely be unavailable Wednesday -- and maybe even Thursday also -- if the team finds itself in a save situation. Tyler Clippard, who was not among the seven relievers used Tuesday, figures to fill in as the closer if the need arises.

  • Carson Fulmer RP | PIT

White Sox's Carson Fulmer: Will not re-join roster this year

General manager Rick Hahn said Fulmer will not rejoin the active roster in September, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Fulmer seemed like a probable September addition given the fact that he spent a good chunk of the summer in the big league bullpen. However, Hahn said he wants Fulmer to focus on starting moving forward, and he could not guarantee Fulmer starts over the season's final few weeks. Fulmer should rest this offseason in advance of a shot at winning one of the club's final few rotation spots out of camp.

  • Zach Neal RP | ATH

Athletics' Zach Neal: Throws quality start in no-decision against Angels

Neal allowed two runs on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts over six innings in a no-decision Tuesday against the Angels.

Neal had one of his best starts of the year, lasting six innings for just the second time and recording his second quality start in six chances in the process. The five strikeouts marked a career high for the 27-year-old rookie. It's unclear if Ross Detwiler, Tuesday's original scheduled starter, will return to the rotation -- he was forced into action out of the bullpen in Monday's game, opening the door for Neal to start Tuesday.

  • Chad Green RP | TOR

Yankees' Chad Green: To rehab elbow without surgery

Green said Tuesday that his UCL is in tact and he will work to rehab the flexor tendon without undergoing surgery, the YES Network's Meredith Marakovits reports.

It's good news that Green doesn't need to go under the knife just yet, although he still has a strained flexor tendon that he will need to rehab before he gets back on a mound. He can safely be ruled out for the rest of the 2016 season, and is not a lock to be ready to pitch when spring training arrives.

  • Sean Manaea SP | NYM

Athletics' Sean Manaea: Could pitch again this season

Manaea (back) could rejoin Oakland's rotation before the season ends, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The A's have not provided a target date for Manaea's return, but he is nearing the point in his recovery where he could be allowed to face hitters again. If he is able to do that several times in the coming weeks, he could be cleared to make another start or more before the regular season comes to a close.

  • Matt Strahm RP | KC

Royals' Matthew Strahm: Dealing with mild tendinitis

Strahm is dealing with mild biceps tendinitis, Rustin Dodd of the Kansas City Star reports.

It was puzzling that Strahm had not been used in September after punching out 20 batters in 15.1 scoreless frames in August, but the reason for his lack of usage is now clear. While Strahm has not pitched in over a week, the Royals are hopeful that he will be available out of the bullpen again before their current series with the Twins comes to a close.

  • Indians' Shawn Armstrong: Recalled by Indians

The Indians recalled Armstrong from Low-A Lake County on Tuesday.

Armstrong was assigned to Lake County so that the Indians could recall him when their season was over, and the team did just that with Lake County's season ending Monday. Armstrong will work in middle relief for the Indians the rest of the way.
