  • Twins' Hector Santiago: Pitches well in no-decision

Santiago took a no-decision on Monday, despite shutting out the Indians for 6.1 innings. he allowed three hits, walked four, and struck out two.

Santiago showed no ill-effects from the thumb injury that cost him his previous start. The lefty had been positively terrible since coming to Minnesota before Monday's strong start. He's now allowed 24 runs through 25.1 innings as a Twin. Santiago will carry a 4.93 ERA into his next start Saturday against the White Sox.

  • Sean Manaea SP | NYM

Athletics' Sean Manaea: Day-to-day with rhomboid strain

Manaea has been diagnosed with a right rhomboid strain and is considered day-to-day, Jordan Ray of MLB.com reports.

He left Monday's start in the fourth inning and was replaced by Chris Smith. It's unclear whether Manaea will be ready for his next scheduled start, Sunday against Boston, or who would be in line to replace him if he had to sit out.

  • Matt Andriese RP | MIA

Rays' Matt Andriese: Coughs up seven runs in loss

Andriese (6-6) had a night to forget on Monday, being battered for seven runs over four innings against the Red Sox. He allowed 10 hits, walked one, and struck out four.

For Andriese it was by far his worst start of the season, capping off what's been a tough month for the 27-year-old. Andriese allowed 25 runs in 29 August innings, losing four straight decisions in the process. Andriese's rotation spot is in jeopardy with Alex Cobb scheduled to come off the DL this week.

  • Sean Manaea SP | NYM

Athletics' Sean Manaea: Forced to exit with undisclosed injury

Manaea was force to exit Monday's start against Houston with an apparent but unclear injury in the bottom of the fourth inning, John Hickey of the Bay Area News Group reports.

Manaea was removed after a seemingly benign pickoff throw in the bottom of the fourth inning. There hasn't been word yet as to the nature of the injury, but we'll consider him day-to-day until we hear more.

  • Trevor May RP | ATH

Twins' Trevor May: Set for bullpen session Friday

May (back) will throw a bullpen session Friday, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

May has been sidelined since the first week of August with a lower back strain, but he's recently begun throwing again and it looks as though he's ready to progress even further. It's unclear if he'll require a brief rehab assignment, but either way, the 26-year-old seems primed to rejoin the bullpen in early September.

  • Buddy Boshers RP | HOU

Twins' Buddy Boshers: Set to begin rehab assignment

Boshers (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Rochester on Monday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Boshers landed on the disabled list earlier in August, but an MRI revealed no structural damage and it now appears he could be in line to return within short order. It's unclear how lengthy a rehab stint he'll require, but once activated he'll provide a lower-leverage left-handed option out of the club's bullpen.

  • Twins' Hector Santiago: Confirmed for Monday start

Santiago (thumb) will officially start Monday against the Indians, Phil Miller of the Star Tribune reports.

Santiago had his last start skipped after experiencing a thumb injury, but he's now set to return for Monday's tilt. The lefty has taken the loss in each of his last four starts and has been hit especially hard in his last two -- yielding a total of 15 runs on 20 hits over just 8.2 innings -- so he'll be looking to right the ship this time out.

  • Matt Barnes RP | WAS

Red Sox's Matt Barnes: Blows up in Sunday's loss

Barnes allowed three inherited runners to score and was charged with five runs without getting an out in Sunday night's 10-4 loss to the Royals.

Barnes showed much promise over the first four months of the season, but his season has been undermined by a terrible August. He's allowed 12 runs on 12 hits and six walks in 9.2 innings this month. Once considered a possible eighth-inning option, Barnes appears lost. "I think I'm at the point now where I need to sit down and reevaluate what I'm doing," Barnes told Tim Britton of the Providence Journal. "This is probably one of those portions of your career where you've been in the league long enough where teams have a lot of video and have seen you pitch. They're adjusting to you."

  • White Sox's David Robertson: Collects 33rd save of season Sunday

Robertson pitched a scoreless ninth inning on two hits while striking out one to earn his 33rd save of the season Sunday against the Mariners.

Robertson has collected six saves and a win in his last seven outings since blowing his sixth save of the campaign earlier in the month, and he lowered his ERA to 3.67 in the process. Despite posting his worst ERA since 2010, he has a very realistic chance of matching his career-high in saves, which is 39.

  • Brian Johnson RP | BOS

Red Sox's Brian Johnson: Roughed up Saturday

Johnson allowed seven runs on eights hits, including three homers, in a loss for Triple-A Pawtucket on Saturday.

A rough outing for Johnson, who had been on a roll entering Saturday's game, having allowed just six earned runs over his previous five starts spanning 30.2 innings. The good stretch of pitching has featured the pinpoint control that characterized the left-hander's rise through the system. Given his two-month layoff to address anxiety issues, Johnson still has a lot of innings left in his arm. The Red Sox will likely call him up when rosters expand in September.
