  • Dylan Floro RP | ARI

Rays' Dylan Floro: Struggling in debut season

Floro has given up seven earned runs in 11.2 innings pitched this season.

The rookie out of Cal State Fullerton has allowed at least one run in six out of his 10 relief appearances this season. Unsurprisingly, Floro now holds a 5.40 ERA along with a 2.23 WHIP.

  • Zach Neal RP | ATH

Athletics' Zach Neal: Earns second win against Orioles

Neal (2-1) allowed just one run on two hits with a strikeout over 5.1 innings in a win Tuesday over the Orioles.

Neal has just 11 strikeouts in 29.1 innings this season and will likely continue to be used in long relief as a result, but this marks his longest and most successful outing of the season. He also had just a 4.7 K/9 in 61.2 innings for Triple-A this season. Expect the Athletics to use him as an innings eater, but he will likely be passed over in favor of prospects for starts as the season winds down.

  • Daniel Norris RP | CLE

Tigers' Daniel Norris: No decision in return to majors

Norris limited the Mariners to one run on seven hits and two walks while striking out three over five innings in Tuesday's no-decision after being recalled from Triple-A Toledo.

Norris did well to scatter the nine baserunners he allowed in his first outing since July 4, but was denied a win late when reliever Justin Wilson gave up a game-tying three-run homer to Kyle Seager in the eighth inning. The southpaw still hasn't exceeded five innings in a start this season, but he likely did well enough to stay in the rotation. That makes him the probable starter for Monday's home tilt against the Royals.

  • White Sox's David Robertson: Blows fifth save but still gets win against Royals

Robertson (3-2) gave up one run on two hits in the ninth to blow the save Tuesday against the Royals but still came up with the win.

Robertson is now an underwhelming 27-of-32 (84.4 percent) in save opportunities with a brutal 4.08 ERA. Given his excellent stuff, his 52 strikeouts in 46.1 innings and his history of success, Robertson should have a long leash, but his combination of poor control (4.5 BB/9) and susceptibility to the long ball (1.2 HR/9) are an extremely bad combination for the ninth inning, and there's little in his performance this year that suggests he's the lockdown closer he was expected to be heading into 2016.

  • Twins' Hector Santiago: Gives up four earned runs in loss to Astros

Santiago (10-6) allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits and a walk with four strikeouts over 5.1 innings in a loss Tuesday to the Astros.

Santiago has allowed eight runs on 12 hits over 10.1 innings in his short Twins career. He was tagged for a two-run homer by Carlos Correa in the first inning, continuing his season-long issue with the gopher ball. He has now allowed 24 homers in 132 innings in 2016 after serving up 29 in 180.2 innings last season. He managed a 3.59 ERA last season, but unless he can figure out how to keep the ball in the ballpark, he's going to struggle to improve upon his current 4.47 ERA in 2016.

  • Ken Giles RP | ATL

Astros' Ken Giles: Picks up save against Twins

Giles picked up his second save despite allowing a run on a hit and a walk in the ninth inning Tuesday against the Twins.

The lone run snapped a 15-inning scoreless streak for Giles in which he was utterly dominant, allowing just nine hits with 29 strikeouts against four walks. With a three-run lead, the Astros were content to take easy outs and let a leadoff double come around to score on a pair of subsequent groundouts, and then Giles was able to shut the door with a strikeout. Considering the situation, it's hard to argue with his results Tuesday night. The save marks Giles's first since May 26, but now that he has taken over the closer's role from Will Harris, expect many more to come in the near future.

  • Matt Barnes RP | WAS

Red Sox's Matt Barnes: Shuts door for ailing Kimbrel

Barnes entered a 5-3 game against the Yankees with two outs in the ninth and struck out the final hitter to earn his first save of the season.

Regular closer Craig Kimbrel had been pitching the ninth but was surprisingly ineffective, recording just two outs on 37 pitches and walking in a run before being removed in favor of Barnes. After the game it turned out that Kimbrel was dealing with knee soreness in the same knee that landed him on the DL earlier this summer. Brad Ziegler would seem to be the replacement closer should Kimbrel miss time, but Barnes has been solid this season, with a 2.98 ERA and 1.23 WHIP.

  • Red Sox's Craig Kimbrel: Day-to-day with knee soreness

Kimbrel experienced knee soreness during his attempted save Tuesday and is unsure if he will be available over the next couple days, the Providence Journal's Evan Drellich Reports.

He missed almost a month with a knee injury and after three appearances since being activated off the DL, he is now being bothered by his knee again, which is clearly not good. Kimbrel gave up a run on four walks while needing 37 pitches to record just two outs Tuesday in a failed save attempt that will go down as a hold after Matt Barnes was able to come in and record the final out of the ninth inning. Considering Kimbrel threw 37 pitches, he likely wouldn't have been available Wednesday anyway, but now his availability Thursday and into the weekend is in question. More updates should be available in the coming days, but it would not be surprising to see Brad Ziegler called on for the Red Sox's next save.

  • Jeff Ferrell RP | DET

    Tigers' Jeff Ferrell: DFA'd Tuesday

Ferrell was designated for assignment Tuesday.

In order to make room on the 40-man roster for Donn Roache, who was claimed off waivers Tuesday, the Tigers designated for assignment the contract of Jeff Ferrell. Ferrell has posted a 7.36 ERA and 2.54 WHIP over 7.1 innings for Detroit's Triple-A affiliate and will likely remain there unless he gets picked up by another club now that he's on waivers.

  • Zach Neal RP | ATH

Athletics' Zach Neal: Will start Tuesday versus O's

Neal is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Orioles.

He last pitched 2.1 innings out of the big league bullpen on Aug. 4, so his start Tuesday could be fairly brief. The A's have several young starting pitchers at Triple-A who figure to get a shot in the big league rotation before the end of the season, so Neal could be back in a long-relief role in the near future.
