  • Collin McHugh RP | ATL

Astros' Collin McHugh: Fails to post quality start Friday

McHugh (5-6) allowed four runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out three over six innings, but received no decision Friday against the Athletics.

McHugh left the contest with a 6-4 lead, but the bullpen was unable to protect it for him. This was the first time he's allowed more than two earned runs in a start over his last five starts, and his ERA is now at 4.59. He'll make his next start after the All-Star break.

  • Athletics' Daniel Mengden: Allows six runs in 4.2 innings Friday

Mengden (1-4) allowed six runs on six hits and two walks while striking out six over 4.2 innings, but received no decision Friday at the Astros.

Mengden held the Astros scoreless the first time through the batting order, but followed that up by allowing two runs in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth inning, forcing his exit from the contest. After making four solid starts in June, he's now allowed 10 runs in his last 10 innings over two July starts to raise his ERA to 4.54. He'll make his next start after the All-Star break.

  • Red Sox's Craig Kimbrel: Injures knee, awaiting MRI results

Kimbrel injured his knee running before Friday's game and is awaiting the results of an MRI, the Boston Globe's Pete Abraham reports.

Manager John Farrell admitted after Friday's game that Kimbrel will not pitch in the All-Star game, and the team expects to know more about the severity of the injury Saturday. Junichi Tazawa (shoulder) is also ailing, so Koji Uehara would be the obvious option for saves for however long Kimbrel is out. It seems safe to rule Kimbrel out for Saturday and Sunday, considering he has already been ruled out for the All-Star game.

  • Ryan Webb RP | SF

White Sox's Ryan Webb: Signs contract with White Sox

Webb was signed by the White Sox on Friday, and assigned to Triple-A Charlotte, Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reports.

Webb was recently released by the Rays on Wednesday, having posted a 5.19 ERA during 17.1 innings of work with the club this season. The 30-year-old has spent some time in the Rays' minor league system in 2016 also, allowing three earned runs in 3.2 innings of work between Triple-A Durham and High-A Charlotte. He will likely be used as organizational depth for the White Sox, but could get a chance at the major league level again later this summer.

  • Joe Kelly RP | LAD

Red Sox's Joe Kelly: Two more relief appearances scheduled

Kelly is scheduled to make two more relief appearances with Single-A Lowell on Saturday and Monday, Scott Lauber of ESPN.com reports.

The plan is for Kelly to rejoin Triple-A Pawtucket Thursday after making both of his scheduled rehab relief appearances. Red Sox manager John Farrell wants to use Kelly as a multi-inning reliever when he eventually makes his way back to Boston. Kelly coming back as a reliever will pretty much diminish his fantasy value, but an injury to a starter in the current rotation could change that very quickly.

  • Tyler Duffey RP | KC

Twins' Tyler Duffey: Fires six shutout innings in win Thursday

Duffey (5-6) allowed no runs on two hits and four walks while striking out nine over six innings to earn the win Thursday at the Rangers.

Despite struggling with walks, Duffey left the contest with a 4-0 lead that the bullpen held onto to help his earn his fifth victory of the year. He's now fired quality starts in two of his last three outings, and he's lowered his ERA from 6.18 to 5.20 during that span. He'll make his next start after the All-Star break.

  • Jake Reed RP | LAD

Twins' Jake Reed: Improving after poor start to season

    Reed has a 4.24 ERA and 51:18 K:BB in 46.2 innings at Double-A Chattanooga. He has a 3.58 ERA and 23:6 K:BB in 20.1 innings since June 1.

Reed had a poor start to the season with a 5.73 ERA in April, but has turned things around since May. Reed struggled with a 4.1 BB/9 last season at Double-A, so his improved conrol since June is encouraging.

  • Yankees' Aroldis Chapman: Secures 17th save Thursday

Chapman picked up his 17th save despite allowing a hit and a walk while striking out one over one inning Thursday at the Indians.

Chapman was protecting a one-run lead and put two runners on base with one out before retiring the last two hitters to end the contest. He's now successfully converted 17 of 18 save opportunities on the season, and he has a 2.74 ERA.

  • Angels' Hector Santiago: Dazzles with second consecutive scoreless outing

Santiago struck out nine batters and did not allow a run through seven innings en route to picking up his sixth win of the season Thursday against the Rays.

Santiago labored to open the contest, but found another gear after his first time through the order, as he allowed just two baserunners and punched out five through his final four innings. He did put four on base via the walk, but Santiago can now boast 13 innings of scoreless baseball in his last two starts. He will head into the All-Star break having notched an ERA of 4.58 over 18 starts.

  • Rangers' Nick Martinez: Will start Saturday against Twins

Martinez will get the nod on the mound for Saturday's matchup against Minnesota, Jeff Wilson of the Fort-Worth Star Telegram reports.

Martinez started against the Red Sox on Monday, allowing six earned runs off 11 hits and three walks during 4.1 innings of work. The 25-year-old collected the loss during that contest, and only notched one strikeout, which has been a microcosm of his time on the hill recently. Martinez has only made it into the sixth inning in one start out of his last four outings, while racking up just six strikeouts over 17.2 innings. He will get another chance Saturday, but that could be his last if things don't change for the better.
