  • Carson Smith RP | BOS

Red Sox's Carson Smith: Placed on 15-day DL

Smith (forearm) was placed on the 15-day DL on Sunday, Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald reports.

Smith is still in the midst of a throwing program after straining his right forearm in spring training. He'll need to resume pitching off a mound and facing hitters before heading out on a rehab assignment in the minor leagues. Once activated from the DL, Smith projects to serve as one of the Red Sox's top setup men.

  • Luke Jackson RP | SEA

Rangers' Luke Jackson: Placed on 15-day DL

Jackson (back) was placed on the 15-day DL on Sunday, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Jackson was hoping to win a bullpen role with the Rangers in spring training, but back problems never provided him much of an opportunity to make his mark. He'll likely continue to rehab at Triple-A Round Rock before the Rangers activate him from the DL.

  • Tim Collins RP | CHC

Royals' Tim Collins: Placed on 60-day DL

Collins (elbow) was placed on the 60-day DL on Sunday, Rustin Dodd of The Kansas City Star reports.

Collins was diagnosed with a torn ligament in his throwing elbow last week that will require season-ending Tommy John surgery, the second procedure he's required during his career. He missed the entire 2015 campaign while recovering from the first procedure.

  • White Sox's Phillippe Aumont: Reassigned to minor league camp Saturday

The White Sox reassigned Aumont to minor league camp Saturday, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Aumont had no chance of making the MLB roster, but he hung around the big league team until the exhibition finale as an extra arm. He allowed zero runs, but walked seven, in his eight Cactus League innings. He could be up later in the season if injuries decimate the White Sox's bullpen.

  • Williams Jerez RP | BOS

Red Sox's Williams Jerez: Not ready to help Boston

Jerez was assigned to Double-A Portland instead of Triple-A Pawtucket because the left-hander is not yet ready to help the major league roster, the Portland Press Herald reports.

For the Red Sox's organization, a player assigned to Triple-A to start a season is someone that could conceivably be called up to help Boston if a need should arise. Jerez, a converted outfielder, has had one full season as a reliever, only half of which was spent with Portland. While he's shown some promise -- Jerez was added to the 40-man roster in the offseason -- the organization feels more experience is needed before he can make an impact at the major league level.

  • Carson Smith RP | BOS

Red Sox's Carson Smith: Throws out to 80 feet

Smith (forearm) threw out to 80 feet Saturday, WEEI.com reports.

Smith was recently cleared to begin throwing program and will move onto a series of benchmarks. The next milestone is playing long toss sometime next week.

  • Bo Schultz RP | PIT

Blue Jays' Bo Schultz: Placed on 15-day DL

Schultz (hip) was placed on the 15-day disabled listSaturday.

Schultz' placement on the disabled list is retroactive to March 25. The 30-year-old reliever appeared in 31 games with the Blue Jays last season, working a 3.56 ERA with 31 strikeouts and 14 walks across 43.0 innings. He underwent hip surgery during the offseason and will start the year on the disabled list, though he could return as early as next weekend if healthy.

  • Aaron Loup RP | LAA

Blue Jays' Aaron Loup: Placed on 15-day DL

Loup (elbow) was placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 25 on Saturday, Toronto play-by-play announcer Mike Wilner reports.

The Blue Jays officially placed several of their injured players on the DL Saturday with retroactive dates. Loup's recovery from a flexor strain has had a couple starts and stops, and it became apparent Friday that the veteran lefty would have to start the season on the disabled list. Once he begins ramping up his activity, his timetable for a return should come into focus.

  • Kirby Yates RP | PIT

Yankees' Kirby Yates: Makes Opening Day roster

Yates will be on the Yankees' Opening Day roster, Wallace Matthews of ESPN New York reports.

The 29-year-old right-hander will have a chance to make his mark at the major league level this season out of the Yankees' bullpen after two very different campaigns with the Rays in 2014 and 2015 (3.75 ERA in 2014, 7.97 ERA in 2015). He has been almost unhittable this spring with a 12.3 K/9 rate to go with a .409 WHIP coming into Saturday. He'll be a middle innings option for an already loaded Yankees bullpen.

  • Angels' Hector Santiago: Finishes spring in fine style

Santiago shut out the Dodgers through five innings Friday, striking out four without surrendering a walk in the contest.

Santiago appears ready to begin the season, as he finishes Cactus League play with a 2.89 ERA in 28 innings. Santiago wilted down the stretch last season, but appears to have his command back on form (just six walks this spring), so it will be interesting to see if he can return to the form he showed prior to the All-Star break in 2015.
