  • Rays' Danny Farquhar: Makes Opening Day roster

Farquhar was informed Saturday that he's made the Rays' Opening Day roster, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Farquhar was part of a three-man battle for two bullpen spots, and he'll join the Rays on Opening Day, as will Dana Eveland. The third candidate, Andrew Bellatti, was optioned to Triple-A on Saturday, and the Rays also sent down Mikie Mahtook.

  • Rays' Andrew Bellatti: Optioned to Durham

Bellatti was optioned to Triple-A Durham on Saturday, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune reports.

Bellatti was in competition for a bullpen spot with the Rays, but the team has opted to go with Dana Eveland and Danny Farquhar on the Opening Day roster. The 24-year-old Bellatti had an impressive debut with the Rays last season, posting a 2.31 ERA across 23.3 innings, and he could be in line for a call up later in the season in the event of an injury or performance drop-off.

  • Brad Boxberger RP | CHC

Rays' Brad Boxberger: Placed on DL

Boxberger (abdomen) has been placed on the 15-day DL.

Boxberger remains on a timeline to return sometime around mid-May, at which point he's expected to reclaim the closing role he held in 2015. In the interim, Rays manager Kevin Cash has intimated that the team will employ a closer-by-committee approach with Alex Colome likely being the top option.

  • Luke Jackson RP | SEA

Rangers' Luke Jackson: To pitch at Triple-A on Sunday

Jackson (back) will throw an inning at Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

The right-hander continues to work back from a back injury and figures to start the year on the DL, with the stint likely backdated. Jackson is slated to throw roughly 25 pitches in Sunday's game.

  • Matt Moore RP | BOS

Rays' Matt Moore: Surrenders three earned runs in final spring start

Moore surrendered a hit, three earned runs and three walks over three innings in Friday's 9-4 spring loss to the Pirates. He struck out three.

Moore looked somewhat shaky in his final tune-up, but remains satisfied with how the exhibition slate turned out. "I was pretty happy with the results and how we worked the process the whole time," Moore said. "I thought my in-between days -- my work days on the side -- were good. I think we have a good foundation heading into the season." The 26-year-old made it through spring training unscathed with respect to his surgically repaired elbow, and posted a 3.38 ERA and 14 strikeouts over 13.1 spring innings.

  • Pedro Beato RP | PHI

Orioles' Pedro Beato: Heading to minor league camp

Beato was reassigned to minor league camp after Friday's game, MASN Sports reports.

Beato had a solid spring, allowing two runs in 7.2 innings. He seems ticketed for the Triple-A bullpen, but he would not be among the first Orioles called up to the big league club if a need arises.

  • Ken Giles RP | ATL

Astros' Ken Giles: Astros could 'mix and match' in ninth inning

Astros manager A.J. Hinch said he doesn't feel a need to formally declare a closer, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Hinch also said naming a closer doesn't necessarily mean that's who he will give the ball to in the ninth inning of a close game every time. While that doesn't help fantasy owners, the Astros gave up a lot to acquire Giles this offseason and he's still expected to get more save opportunities than Luke Gregerson, who hasn't pitched much this spring due to a mild oblique strain. Giles struggled in camp (7.00 ERA), but Hinch expressed confidence in him despite his rocky spring.

  • Bo Schultz RP | PIT

Blue Jays' Bo Schultz: Throws live batting practice for first time Friday

Schultz "felt fine" after throwing 25 pitches in live batting practice for the first time since his offseason hip surgery Friday, John Lott of VICE Sports reports.

Schultz had a solid 2015, posting a 3.56 ERA in 43 innings of relief for the Blue Jays. Although he will start 2016 on the DL, this is a good sign for his recovery and he is expected to return to action in mid-April.

  • Rays' Danny Farquhar: Roster decision set for Saturday

Farquhar will find out if he made the Rays' Opening Day roster Saturday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Farquhar is battling with Mikie Mahtook, Dana Eveland, and Andrew Bellatti for the final two roster spots heading into the season. The 29-year-old has the most major league experience of the bunch, but he is coming off a career-worst season in which he went 1-8 with a 5.12 ERA over 51 innings of relief work. However, Farquhar has been lights out throughout spring allowing just two earned runs in 11 innings and giving him a good shot at making the team.

  • Rays' Andrew Bellatti: Will receive roster decision Saturday

Bellatti will find out if he made the Rays' Opening Day roster Saturday, Marc Topkin of The Tampa Bay Times reports.

Bellatti is competing with Mikie Mahtook, Dana Eveland, and Danny Farquhar for the final two spots on the team. The San Diego native was impressive in a short stint with Tampa Bay in 2015, posting a 2.31 ERA over 23.3 innings of work and hasn't slowed down one bit this spring, putting up a 2.00 ERA in nine innings, making him a very likely candidate to make the Opening Day roster.
