Astros pitcher Josh Fields throws one scoreless inning in return
Astros pitcher Josh Fields tossed one scoreless inning in his return to action Saturday against the Athletics.
It was Fields' first appearance this season after landing on the 15-day DL with a right groin strain to begin the year.
"I told him, 'Welcome back,'" Astros manager A.J. Hinch said. "He throws his first pitch 96 mph and his second pitch at 97 ... I think everybody had a smile on their face. He's a big part of what we do in the bullpen."
Fields added a strikeout and a walk to his totals.
"I'm glad we were able to get him an inning with a little breathing room," Hinch said. "It feels like an extra-special addition."

Twins pitcher Trevor May leaves after line drive bounces off his arm
Twins pitcher Trevor May was forced to leave Saturday's game against the Mariners after taking a line driver off his arm, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
With one out in the third, May gave up a liner to third baseman Kyle Seager, who ripped it right back to him. May tried to stay in the game, but was replaced by Tim Stauffer. He allowed two runs on three hits with five strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings against Seattle.
"It was one of the few spots near the elbow where it is OK to get hit by a ball and it just looks like a little bruising," May said to the Star Tribune. "At that point, I just wanted to make a play and then deal with it after."
X-rays were negative and May is considered day-to-day with the injury.

Rays pitcher Matt Andriese picks up save in blowout win Friday
Rays pitcher Matt Andriese picked up his first career save Friday against the Blue Jays, as he pitched the final three innings of a 12-3 blowout win.
The right-hander allowed his only run on a one-out home run to Justin Smoak in the ninth inning. He gave up two hits and no walks, while striking out one.
Andriese's previous two appearances had been starts.
"The bullpen's been incredible. Matt Andriese, what he did tonight, asking a young pitcher that's been a starter to come in and provide three innings of relief is not the easiest thing to do. He got his first major-league save. It worked out. He helped us out a lot," manager Kevin Cash said, per MLB.com.

"We don't view us as having a closer," Cash said. "We feel we have a strong bullpen and we'll select [the] best matchups."

Jesse Chavez RP | ATL
Athletics' Jesse Chavez takes loss in spot start Thursday
Athletics pitcher Jesse Chavez was stuck with a loss in Thursday's spot start, giving up two runs (one earned) on one hit and three walks in six innings while striking out four in his team's 2-0 defeat against the Angels.
"To give up one hit on a moment’s notice to start, I don’t know how you can ask for much more than that," manager Bob Melvin said after the game, per MLB.com.
Chavez (0-1) had racked up 6 2/3 scoreless innings in relief coming into Thursday's start and gave up just one hit on the night, but that one mistake turned out to be a two-run home run by Kole Calhoun, providing the Angels with all the offense they would need for the win. Chavez owns a 0.71 ERA and 13:4 K:BB ratio in 12 2/3 innings. He'll likely head back to the bullpen, provided Jesse Hahn is healthy enough to make his next start.
