  • Fernando Rodney finishes Wild Card win

Rays closer Fernando Rodney pitched a scoreless ninth inning in a non-save situation Wednesday to record the final three outs in his team's 4-0 win over the Indians in the Wild Card game.

Rodney struck out two and induced a soft liner to the shortstop to send his team to Boston for Game 1 of the American League Division Series against the Red Sox. Rodney converted three of four save opportunities against his ALDS opponent duing the regular season while allowing five earned runs and posting a 12:8 K:BB ratio in 6 2/3 innings.

  • Fernando Rodney's 37th save is an adventure

Fernando Rodney faced a total of eight batters, but he not only saved the Rays' 7-6 win over the Blue Jays on Sunday -- he may have saved their season.

After allowing two inherited runners to score in the eighth inning, Rodney started off the ninth by allowing a single to Adam Lind. Then the Rays' closer set down the rest of the order, preserving a victory that kept his team in the American League wild card chase.

Rodney allowed three hits and a walk with two strikeouts over 1 1/3 innings. He closed out the season with a 3.38 ERA.

Matt Moore helps Rays' playoff bid

Matt Moore did his part to keep the Rays in the playoff hunt, as he helped protect an early 7-0 lead in an eventual 7-6 victory over the Blue Jays on the last day of the regular season. Moore eventually allowed three runs on six hits and three walks, while striking out four, but that was enough for him to earn the win.

The lefty ends the season with a 17-4 record and 3.29 ERA.

  • Danny Farquhar Ks two for 16th save

Mariners reliever Danny Farquhar struck out two in a perfect ninth inning for his 16th save of the season Saturday against the A's.

    Farquhar is 16 of 20 in save chances, with a 4.20 and a 1.19 WHIP in 55 2/3 innings.

  • Brandon Maurer Ks five in win over A's

Mariners starter Brandon Maurer fell two outs shy of a quality start as he earned the win Saturday against the Athletics. He yielded two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out five over 5 1/3 innings of a 7-5 victory.

Maurer allowed only five runs over his final 17 1/3 innings pitched. He finished the year 5-8 with a 6.30, a 1.57 WHIP and a 70:22 K:BB ratio over 90 innings.

  • David Robertson closes out Houston

Yankees reliever David Robertson collected his third save of the season Friday night against the Astros. He made quick work of Houston as he struck out one and needed only seven pitches to retire the side in order to preserve a 3-2 victory.

Robertson converted his first save since Aug. 22. He owns a 2.07 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP over 65 1/3 innings.

Esmil Rogers takes loss in Baltimore

Blue Jays starting pitcher Esmil Rogers made his final appearance of the season Wednesday in Baltimore. Toronto gave him a 3-0 lead after the top of the third inning, but Rogers couldn't hold it in the loss.

Rogers fell to 5-9 on the season as he allowed six earned runs on eight hits and a walk over 4 1/3 innings in the loss. He threw 76 pitches before getting pulled in favor of Aaron Loup. Rogers allowed two homers and struck out two batters. His ERA finishes at 4.77 on the year for Toronto.

Rogers finished with a record under .500 on the season with a so-so ERA. He is not guaranteed to have a rotation spot next season. Rogers will not make another start this year.

  • Matt Moore RP | BOS

Matt Moore walks six in five scoreless innings

Rays pitcher Matt Moore earned his 16th win Tuesday, pitching five scoreless innings while allowing three hits, walking six and striking out four as the Rays took down the Yankees, 7-0.

It was the fourth time this season Moore walked six batters in a start, and he has gone 3-1 in those walk-filled games. He owns a 16-4 record, 3.23 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 139:73 K:BB ratio going into Sunday's finale against the Blue Jays.

  • Hector Santiago throws quality start in no-decision

White Sox pitcher Hector Santiago turned in his first quality start in his last four tries Tuesday, holding the Indians to three earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out one in 6 1/3 innings, but he did not factor into the decision in his team's 5-4 loss.

Santiago hasn't recorded a win since Aug. 18, and he has just one win since June 21. Still 4-9 with a 3.56 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 137:72 K:BB ratio, Santiago has likely made his last start of the season.

  • Brandon Maurer takes no-decision Monday

Mariners starter Brandon Maurer was the pitcher of record when he left the ballgame but his bullpen ruined his win Monday night at home against the Royals. Maurer settled for the no-decision on a solid outing.

Maurer allowed just two runs -- one earned -- on four hits and a walk over seven solid innings. He threw 95 pitches and struck out six batters for Seattle. His ERA is still high at 6.48 on the year.

The 23-year-old gave up just three runs over his last two outings spanning 12 innings with 12 Ks. The Mariners haven't yet decided if Maurer will get another start. If he does, it is likely to come either Saturday or Sunday during the final series of the season against Oakland.
