  • Nate Pearson RP | HOU

Blue Jays' Nate Pearson: Back in majors

The Blue Jays recalled Pearson from Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Pearson has thrown 6.1 scoreless innings in the majors this season, and he'll get another opportunity to rejoin the Jays' bullpen as Chad Green (shoulder) moves to the injured list. The 27-year-old right-hander will presumably continue serving in middle relief while in Toronto.

  • Chad Green RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Chad Green: Lands on injured list

The Blue Jays placed Green on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a teres major strain in his right shoulder, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Green's shoulder has kept him out of action since Monday, and it will officially cost him another couple of weeks as he moves to the IL. Nate Pearson will come up from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move to fill the open spot in Toronto's bullpen.

  • Rays' Garrett Cleavinger: Records first career save

Cleavinger threw a scoreless 10th inning with one strikeout against the Yankees on Saturday to earn his first career save.

After Jason Adam pitched a clean ninth to preserve a scoreless tie, Tampa Bay scored the game's only runs in the top of the 10th to create the save chance. It was the left-handed Cleavinger who got the call with Pete Fairbanks unavailable due to a stomach illness, per Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times, and Cleavinger shut the door on 17 pitches (12 strikes). While Cleavinger battles fits of wildness, he also misses bats and may continue to see the occasional matchups-based opportunity with Fairbanks struggling in the ninth to begin the season. The 29-year-old Cleavinger already has three wins this season to go along with Saturday's save.

  • Zack Weiss RP | STL

Twins' Zack Weiss: Still not throwing off mound

Weiss (shoulder) still has not progressed to pitching off a mound, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Weiss was sidelined early in spring training with a teres major strain in his right shoulder and it doesn't sound like he's made much progress. He was set to compete for a middle relief role before the injury.

  • Jordan Lyles RP | KC

Royals' Jordan Lyles: Placed on inactive list

The Royals placed Lyles (personal) on the inactive list Saturday.

Lyles will step away from the team as he tends to a personal matter. The 33-year-old righty has yet to allow a run through five innings this season, and Anthony Veneziano will come up from Triple-A Omaha to replace him in the bullpen.

  • Josh Winder RP | ARI

Twins' Josh Winder: Throws batting practice sessions

Winder (shoulder) threw two live batting practice sessions in Florida in the past week and will next pitch in extended spring training games, Bobby Nightengale of hte Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

He would then begin a minor-league rehab assignment after the extended spring outings. Winder opened the season on the 60-day injured list due to a right scapula stress fracture, which he sustained late in 2023.

  • Royals' Anthony Veneziano: Back in majors

The Royals recalled Veneziano from Triple-A Omaha on Saturday.

Veneziano was called up to be the Royals' 27th man during their doubleheader Wednesday, though he never appeared in a game before being returned to Omaha. He's posted a 4.15 ERA and 1.46 WHIP across 13 innings in the minors this year, and he'll presumably serve in a multi-inning relief role while in Kansas City. Jordan Lyles (personal) was placed on the inactive list in a corresponding move.

  • Justin Topa RP | MIN

Twins' Justin Topa: Slated to throw live BP

Topa (knee) will throw live batting practice Tuesday, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.

If Topa is able to get through BP without any issues, it's possible the Twins send him out on a rehab assignment. He's been on the injured list since the beginning of the season due to left patellar tendinitis, so he would likely require multiple appearances in the minors, but it appears the 33-year-old righty isn't too far away from rejoining the Twins' bullpen.

  • Daniel Duarte RP | NYM

Twins' Daniel Duarte: Out for season

Duarte will undergo season-ending elbow surgery on May 8, Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Duarte initially landed on the injured list due to a triceps strain, and he will now need to go under the knife. It's unclear whether or not the 27-year-old's procedure will be a Tommy John surgery or some other operation, but it will put an early end to his 2024 campaign nonetheless. He allowed one earned run and struck out three batters through four innings across two appearances.

  • Clay Holmes RP | NYM

Yankees' Clay Holmes: Nabs league-leading eighth save

Holmes gave up two hits in a scoreless ninth inning Friday to record his eighth save of the season in a 5-3 win over the Rays.

The veteran right-hander continued his fast start to the campaign. Holmes does have one blown save on his ledger due to some unearned runs, but through 10 innings he sports a 0.00 ERA to go along with his MLB-leading saves total. With the 14-6 Yankees tied for the best record in the majors, save chances should remain plentiful for the team's undisputed closer.
