  • Orioles' Joey Krehbiel: Sent back to minors

Krehbiel was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

His roster spot will be absorbed by John Means (elbow), who will make his season debut Tuesday against the Cardinals. Krehbiel has shuttled frequently between the majors and minors this season but has pitched well during his time with the big club, allowing just one run with a 5:2 K:BB over five innings.

  • Ian Hamilton RP | ATL

Yankees' Ian Hamilton: Might be back this weekend

Hamilton (groin) could return from the 15-day injured list this weekend in Pittsburgh, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Hamilton landed on the IL early this month with a right groin strain but has evidently made some nice progress with the injury of late. It is not clear whether he might be asked to make a rehab appearance before being activated.

  • Nick Pivetta RP | SD

Red Sox's Nick Pivetta: Starting Tuesday's matinee

Pivetta will start the afternoon game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Yankees.

Pivetta had been scheduled to start Tuesday night, but rain forced a cancellation of Monday's contest, which will be made up Tuesday as part of a twin bill. Monday's scheduled starter, Kutter Crawford, will work the nightcap. Pivetta has been moved permanently into the starting rotation to replace James Paxton, who is done for the season with a knee injury.

  • DL Hall RP | MIL

Orioles' DL Hall: Picks up win Monday

Hall (1-0) allowed a hit and struck out one over 1.1 scoreless innings to earn the win Monday over the Cardinals.

Dean Kremer lasted just 4.1 innings as the starter, and Hall was the first reliever in the game, kicking off 4.2 scoreless innings from Baltimore's bullpen. Hall has kept runs off the board in six of his nine major-league outings this season, pitching to a 3.09 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 15:5 K:BB over 11.2 innings. He's been used in a versatile role lately, collecting a hold and a blown save since he was called up from Triple-A Norfolk on Aug. 26. Hall could provide ancillary save support when Yennier Cano is unavailable.

  • Emmanuel Clase RP | CLE

Guardians' Emmanuel Clase: Falters again Monday

Clase (2-9) failed to record an out Monday versus the Giants, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits to take a blown save and the loss.

Clase gave up back-to-back RBI singles to Blake Sabol and LaMonte Wade, surrendering the one-run lead the Guardians had taken in the top of the 10th inning. This was Clase's second blown save in his last three appearances, and he's up to 11 blown saves while converting a major-league leading 39 saves this season. He's at a 3.15 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 58:15 K:BB through 66.2 innings. Despite his struggles this year, the Guardians have stood by the 25-year-old in the closer role throughout the campaign, and it seems unlikely he'd lose the gig this late in the year with the team's playoff hopes already quite faint.

  • Andres Munoz RP | SEA

Mariners' Andres Munoz: Back in action

Munoz (hip) allowed two hits and hit a batter while striking out one over a scoreless inning in Monday's 8-5 extra-innings loss to the Angels.

Munoz battled hip tightness over the weekend, but he was able to return to action without a trip to the injured list. He was a little wild but kept the score tied at 3-3 in the ninth inning, though the rest of the Mariners' bullpen faltered in the 10th and 11th frames. Munoz is at a 2.95 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 60:21 K:BB through 42.2 innings while racking up 12 saves and 13 holds this season.

  • Jimmy Herget RP | COL

Angels' Jimmy Herget: Snags save Monday

Herget pitched a perfect inning and struck out one to earn the save in Monday's 8-5 extra-innings win over the Mariners.

Herget has pitched 4.2 scoreless innings since he was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Sept. 1. The save was his first of the year -- Carlos Estevez was presumably unavailable after having pitched both Saturday and Sunday. Herget has a 4.57 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 18:7 K:BB with five holds and two blown saves over 21.2 innings this season.

  • Pete Fairbanks RP | MIA

Rays' Pete Fairbanks: Earns save Monday

Fairbanks struck out one batter in a scoreless inning and picked up a save over Minnesota on Monday.

Fairbanks hit one batter but still finished off the 7-4 win with a 17-pitch ninth inning. He's struck out 12 batters while converting five straight save chances during his active 5.2-inning shutout streak. His season ERA is down to 2.23 with a 58:16 K:BB and 23 saves through 44 appearances.

  • Gerardo Reyes RP | ATH

Angels' Gerardo Reyes: Optioned to Triple-A

Reyes was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday.

Reyes was brought up by the Angels on Saturday, but he was sent back to Salt Lake just a couple days later to open up a roster spot for fellow pitcher Jose Suarez.

  • Ben Joyce RP | LAA

Angels' Ben Joyce: Picks up hold in return

Joyce earned a hold with a scoreless inning against Cleveland on Sunday. He walked one batter and didn't collect any strikeouts.

Joyce was activated from the 60-day IL earlier Sunday after missing three months with an elbow injury. The rookie didn't have pinpoint control in his return to game action -- he threw just seven of 15 pitches for strikes -- but was able to work a scoreless frame around a two-out walk. Joyce is among the organization's top pitching prospects and should get a good look as the non-contending Angels play out the string down the stretch.
