  • Matt Brash RP | SEA

Mariners' Matt Brash: Shaky in third save

Brash allowed one run on a hit and struck out one in one inning to earn the save in Wednesday's 6-5 win over the Royals.

Brash has followed up a nine-inning scoreless streak with three runs allowed over his last 1.1 frames. He took a blown save and loss Monday against the Royals, but he was able to maintain the lead this time around with Andres Munoz down following a 42-pitch outing Tuesday. Brash is up to three saves, 17 holds, five blown saves, a 3.46 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 85:22 K:BB through 52 innings this season.

  • Rays' Andrew Kittredge: Returning during weekend

Kittredge (elbow) will rejoin the Rays during their upcoming series against the Angels, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Kittredge has been out all season while recovering from a Tommy John procedure he underwent in June 2022. He's played in 12 rehab games with Triple-A Durham, putting up a 5.40 ERA and 1.57 WHIP with nine strikeouts and three walks through 13.1 frames. The 33-year-old righty has collected 13 saves and seven holds since 2021, though he will likely have to be eased back into high-leverage situations as he gets reacclimated to the majors.

  • Nick Wittgren RP | SEA

Royals' Nick Wittgren: Expected to elect free agency

Wittgren is expected to elect free agency after being sent to Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Kansas City announced Wednesday afternoon that Wittgren had been optioned to Omaha, but it would appear that the 32-year-old right-hander didn't actually have any minor-league options left. He had pitched to a 4.97 ERA and 18:11 K:BB through 29 innings of work this season out of the Royals' bullpen.

Royals' Nick Wittgren: Optioned to Omaha

Kansas City optioned Wittgren to Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday.

John McMillon is joining the Royals' bullpen in a corresponding move. Wittgren, 32, carries a 4.97 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 18:11 K:BB in 29 innings this season at the major-league level.

  • Tayler Saucedo RP | LAA

Mariners' Tayler Saucedo: Efficient for first save Tuesday

Saucedo recorded his first save in an extra-inning win over the Royals on Tuesday, firing a perfect 10th inning during which he didn't record a strikeout or issue a walk.

With Justin Topa and Andres Munoz having worked the previous 2.2 innings and Matt Brash having pitched the previous two days, Saucedo was called on for a rare save opportunity. The 30-year-old southpaw was masterful while rising to the task, disposing of MJ Melendez, Freddy Fermin and Nelson Velazquez in extremely efficient fashion. Saucedo has now posted scoreless appearances in nine of his last 10 trips to the mound, a 10.1-inning stretch during which he's pitched to an 0.87 ERA and 0.87 WHIP while recording a win and two holds in addition to Tuesday's save.

  • Kevin Kelly RP | TB

Rays' Kevin Kelly: Lands on IL with ankle sprain

Kelly was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a left ankle sprain, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Kelly evidently suffered the injury during Tuesday's appearance in San Francisco. He'll will now be sidelined for at least the remainder of August.

  • Royals' Tucker Davidson: Takes extra-inning loss

Davidson (1-2) allowed two runs (one earned) on a hit and a walk while striking out one over one inning to take the extra-inning loss Tuesday versus the Mariners.

The Royals rallied from three runs down in the ninth inning to force extras, but Davidson gave up a two-run single to Ty France in the 10th. Over 3.2 innings with the Royals, Davidson has yielded four runs (three earned) with a 3:2 K:BB. The southpaw has a 6.62 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and 34:13 K:BB through 35.1 innings between the Royals and the Angels this year. While the Kansas City bullpen is a mess, Davidson hasn't pitched well enough to be considered for a higher volume of leverage situations.

  • White Sox's Gregory Santos: Five-out save

Santos did not allow a baserunner across 1.2 scoreless innings while striking out three to earn the save Tuesday against the Cubs.

Santos entered the game with the bases empty in the eighth frame and was dominant on the way to his third save since taking over the full-time closer role for the White Sox. He's been used to record more than three outs in three of his last six appearances, a span during which he's maintained a 2.16 ERA and 0.96 WHIP with a 9:1 K:BB across 8.1 innings.

  • Jhoan Duran RP | PHI

Twins' Jhoan Duran: Notches 22nd save

Duran picked up the save in Tuesday's 5-3 win over Detroit. He allowed a solo home run and a single while striking out two in the ninth inning.

The 25-year-old closer served up a solo homer to Spencer Torkelson and a base hit to Kerry Carpenter before striking out Zach McKinstry to end the game. Duran is now 10-for-11 in second-half save chances despite a 5.11 ERA and 1.54 WHIP across 12.1 innings during that stretch.

  • Jose Cisnero RP | LAA

Tigers' Jose Cisnero: Takes loss to Minnesota

Cisnero (2-3) took the loss Tuesday against the Twins. He allowed three runs on two hits and a walk while failing to record an out.

The 34-year-old was summoned in the sixth inning to safeguard Detroit's 2-0 lead, but he gave up a walk and two singles before getting the hook. All three baserunners would come around to score in the inning, saddling the righty reliever with a loss. However, culpability doesn't solely rest on Cisnero, as he induced a Max Kepler infield pop-up that landed in foul territory due to a miscommunication between third baseman Matt Vierling and catcher Eric Haase. Cisnero's performance has been a mixed bag lately with a 7.36 ERA and 1.45 WHIP despite a stellar 18:3 K:BB across 11 second-half innings.
