The Padres recalled Cosgrove from Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday.

Cosgrove will head to the big leagues for the first time since entering the professional ranks in 2017 as a 12th-round draft pick. He'll be joining the San Diego bullpen as another left-handed option after southpaw Ryan Weathers was sent to Triple-A in a corresponding move. Over his seven appearances with El Paso this season, Cosgrove struck out seven and had allowed just five baserunners in 7.1 innings.

The Pirates selected Bolton's contract from Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

Bolton officially is up from Indianapolis to replace Wil Crowe, who as placed on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder discomfort. Now that he's with the Pirates, Bolton will likely serve as a middle-innings arm out of the bullpen.

The Padres optioned Weathers to Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday.

Even though Weathers fared well over his first three starts of the season with the big club (2.81 ERA, 1.19 WHIP in 16 innings), the Padres had no room for him in the rotation following Joe Musgrove's recent return from the injured list. Weathers was able to stick with the Padres over the past week in a relief role, but since the organization still wants the 23-year-old lefty to continue his development as a starter, he'll head back to El Paso to make regular turns through the rotation. The Friars recalled lefty Tom Cosgrove from Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Heuer (elbow) threw a 25-pitch simulated game Wednesday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Heuer said he felt good during and after the workout and added that he's lined up for another simulated game in the next few days. Nearing the end of his recovery from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent last March, the 26-year-old reliever should be an option for the Cubs in the early part of the summer.

The Dodgers optioned Jackson to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday.

Jackson looked like a candidate to fill multiple innings behind starter Tony Gonsolin (ankle) in the latter's return from the injured list Wednesday against the Pirates, but Jackson will instead be sent back to Triple-A to clear a spot on the 26-man active roster for Gonsolin. Over his 11.1 innings out of the Los Angeles bullpen this season, Jackson has posted a 7.94 ERA.

The Padres plan to call up Cosgrove from Triple-A El Paso prior to Wednesday's game against the Cubs, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.

Cosgrove has gotten off to a nice start at El Paso, having yet to allow a run over 7.1 innings out of the bullpen while striking out seven, although he has issued four walks in that timeframe. The 27-year-old left-hander will be making his MLB debut when he appears in a game with San Diego.

Bolton is expected to be promoted from Triple-A Indianapolis by the Pirates prior to Wednesday's game versus the Dodgers, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

The Pirates haven't announced anything yet, but a jersey bearing Bolton's name was spotted in the team's clubhouse. Bolton has made a full-time move to relief this season and has thrived, holding a 2.38 ERA and 14:2 K:BB over 11.1 innings at Indianapolis. He will need to be added to the 40-man roster.

Manaea allowed a run on one hit and struck out two over 1.1 innings in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Cardinals. He did not factor in the decision.

Manaea was initially lined up to start Tuesday, but the Giants opted to go with John Brebbia as an opener. Manaea then appeared in the second inning and got four outs in what amounted to a bullpen game for San Francisco. With a 6.61 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 18:7 K:BB across 16.1 innings, it wouldn't be surprising to see the 31-year-old southpaw end up as a bulk reliever against some righty-heavy lineups later in the season. Manager Gabe Kapler is no stranger to using an opener, though it was typically out of necessity with a banged-up rotation in 2022. Since Manaea stayed on his typical schedule, he should be tentatively expected to make his next appearance in Houston next week.

The Brewers recalled Miller from Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Miller will return to the big leagues after he was optioned to Triple-A right before the regular season started. The right-hander has appeared in seven games with Nashville so far in 2023, producing a 1.42 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with nine strikeouts over 12.2 innings. To make room for Miller on the major-league roster, Alex Claudio was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Sanmartin (1-0) earned the win Tuesday against the Rangers, picking up a strikeout in a clean eighth inning.

Sanmartin set the Rangers down in order in the top of the eighth before the Reds rallied to take a 7-6 lead in the bottom of the frame, handing Sanmartin his first win of the year. The 27-year-old left-hander has allowed four runs in 11.1 innings this year, good for a 3.18 ERA. He has a 1.41 WHIP and 10:7 K:BB. Sanmartin should see a fair amount of action this year as the Reds' best left-handed option out of the bullpen, though it won't likely translate to much in the way of fantasy production.
