Ginkel (1-1) picked up the loss in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Dodgers, allowing three runs (one earned) on two walks without retiring a batter.

The Diamondbacks held a 5-1 lead entering the eighth inning, but it all melted away as Caleb Smith, Ginkel and Joe Mantiply couldn't hold it. Smith departed after ceding a two-run home run before Ginkel, who was victimized by Josh Rojas' fielding error and his inability to locate (14 pitches, five strikes). Mantiply entered a bases-loaded, none-out situation and couldn't prevent the winning runs from scoring. The back end of Arizona's bullpen has been shaky, so manager Torey Lovullo has been using relievers other than Mark Melancon and Ian Kennedy with mixed results.

Hjelle allowed two runs on six hits and struck out three over four innings, but he did not factor in the decision during Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Rockies.

Hjelle pitched the fourth through seventh innings, but it was Tyler Rogers who was credited with the win in this one. It was still a positive outing for Hjelle on three days' rest, especially since it was at Coors Field. The right-hander has allowed nine runs in 10 innings since rejoining the big club earlier this month. He has an 8.44 ERA, 2.00 WHIP and 18:5 K:BB through 16 innings across six appearances. It's not clear when Hjelle might pitch again, though he could continue to work as a bulk reliever behind an opener.

Garcia retired the only batter he faced to earn the save in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Rockies.

Yunior Marte put two batters on base in the ninth inning, but Garcia was able to get Ryan McMahon out to end the game. While he's filled a versatile role this year, this was Garcia's first save of the season and just the second of his big-league career. He's added four holds, two blown saves, a 1-4 record, a 3.19 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 50:17 K:BB through 59.1 innings. Closer Camilo Doval had pitched in each of the last two games, so this was likely a one-off save opportunity for Garcia.

Crowe (5-10) took the loss in Tuesday's 9-8 loss against the Yankees. He allowed five runs on four hits and one walk without recording an out.

Crowe entered the ninth inning with a healthy 8-4 lead but failed to record an out and suffered the loss. He allowed a solo home run off the bat of Aaron Judge to start the inning and then allowed the Yankees to load the bases for Giancarlo Stanton, who crushed a walkoff home run. The showing increased his ERA by more than half a run to 4.15 and is his third time allowing three or more runs in his last seven appearances.

Rogers (3-4) earned the win during Tuesday's 6-3 victory against the Rockies, allowing one hit and striking out in two scoreless innings.

Rogers followed opener John Brebbia with two easy frames and fell in line for the win after San Francisco took the lead in the bottom of the third. The 31-year-old has been relegated to bullpen games and low-leverage usage since struggling through most of July and August and has responded by submitting 10.1 scoreless innings across six September appearances. At 4.01, Rogers' ERA is the lowest it's been since he sat with a 3.78 mark on May 20.

Diaz got the save Tuesday versus the Brewers after he pitched 1.1 perfect innings while striking out three batters.

Diaz entered the game with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, tasked with protecting a 7-5 lead with a runner on first. The right-hander made quick work of Rowdy Tellez, striking him out to end the frame before he set the Brewers down in order in the ninth, registering two more punchouts in the final inning. Diaz is now up to 31 saves on the campaign and has converted his last 21 save opportunities. Since the All-Star break, the closer has produced a 0.87 ERA and 0.68 WHIP with 35 strikeouts over 20.2 innings in 19 appearances while going 11-for-11 in save chances.

Jansen earned a save after he pitched one inning, surrendering an unearned run on two hits and a walk while striking out two in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Nationals.

Jansen was called upon to protect a 3-1 lead in the top of the ninth, but quickly ran into trouble. The first two batters he faced reached base before he registered two strikeouts in a row, but a two-out Luis Garcia singled scored a run. After an intentional walk to Joey Meneses, Jansen was able to get Luke Voit to fly out to end the contest, earning his 36th save of the year. The 34-year-old has pitched four straight scoreless appearances since he blew a save and got the loss Sept. 11 against the Mariners. Jansen now owns a 3.63 ERA and 1.11 WHIP with 75 punchouts over 57 innings in 58 appearances while going 36-for-43 in save opportunities this year.

Smith was activated off the 15-day injured list by the Mets on Tuesday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Smith has been held out of action since the end of July with a lat strain on his right side. During his rehab stint in Triple-A Syracuse, he pitched four scoreless innings, giving up just three hits and striking out six batters. He figures to serve as a middle-innings option in the Mets' bullpen as they prepare for what they hope will be a deep run into the postseason.

Topa was optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday.

Topa would have been unavailable for a day or two after pitching three of the last four days, so the Brewers decided to remove him from the roster to open up a spot for fellow pitcher Aaron Ashby. Topa will likely be at or near the top of the list if the Brewers need to add a reliever before the season comes to a close.

Jackson was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

He provided some short-term bullpen depth while Tyler Anderson was on the paternity list, but Jackson will head back to Triple-A for now. The 26-year-old righty logged a 5.00 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 76 strikeouts in 75.2 innings at Triple-A and has only made two appearances in the majors this season.
