Melancon (4-3) took the loss in Tuesday's 6-5 defeat at the hands of the Giants, allowing one run on three hits in one inning.

Manager Jayce Tingler handed Melancon the ball with the game tied in the ninth inning and the 36-year-old permitted three straight singles with one out to fall in line for the loss. The defeat was Melancon's first since July 18 and he's now allowed exactly one earned run in four straight appearances, pushing his ERA from 1.88 to 2.37 for the season.

Gallegos allowed one hit, walked two and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save Tuesday against Milwaukee.

Gallegos was protecting a one-run lead, and he managed to strand the bases loaded. The outing wasn't quite as shaky as it appears in the box score as he did intentionally walk Christian Yelich to load the bases with two outs. Gallegos has now converted nine of his last 10 save chances, though his ERA is inflated in that span due to a disastrous four-run outing Sept. 5 against the Brewers. He should continue to see the majority of save chances in St. Louis to close the season.

Rogers saved Tuesday's 6-5 victory against the Padres, allowing one hit with one strikeout in the ninth inning.

After San Francisco took a one-run lead in the top of the ninth, manager Gabe Kapler called upon Rogers to shut down San Diego and the righty delivered. The outing did have some drama as a leadoff error and single put two runners on with one out, but a Manny Machado line drive turned into a game-ending double play. Rogers should continue to see work at the end of games though not necessarily in the ninth inning, as Dominic Leone got the save Saturday.

Medina pitched 3.2 innings, surrendering one run on four hits and two walks while striking out three in Tuesday's win over the Orioles. He did not factor into the decision.

The 24-year-old operated as the opener in this one, only giving up an RBI-single to Ramon Urias in the top of the fourth inning. He has now pitched 5.2 innings while giving up one run since being recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Sept. 11. He is expected to start again Sunday versus the Pirates.

Guerra (elbow) was activated from the 60-day injured list Tuesday.

Guerra has been on the injured list all season while recovering from a sprained UCL in his right elbow, but he'll join San Diego's active roster for the closing stretch of the season. The 25-year-old figures to fill a low-leverage role out of the bullpen now that he's healthy. Jake Arrieta (groin) was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Medina is starting Tuesday's game against the Orioles, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Medina made his season debut when he tossed two scoreless innings against the Cubs on Sept. 16, and he'll pitch on normal rest to begin Tuesday's bullpen game. The right-hander made 17 starts at Triple-A Lehigh Valley this year and posted a 5.05 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 67.2 innings.

Thompson (shoulder) tossed two scoreless innings in a starting role Sunday in the Cubs' 6-4 win over the Brewers. He scattered a hit and two walks and struck out none while taking a no-decision.

After being reinstated from the 10-day injured list ahead of the series finale in Milwaukee without completing a rehab assignment beforehand, Thompson had his workload restricted in his return. He was lifted after just 40 pitches, with Adrian Sampson (four innings, 55 pitches) piggybacking him in the outing. Thompson likely won't be tasked with handling a traditional starter's workload when his next turn in the rotation comes up this weekend versus St. Louis, so he could be deployed in tandem with Sampson once again.

Suter (illness) gave up one run on one hit and one walk while recording zero strikeouts in one inning Monday against the Cardinals.

While he was never placed on the injured list, Suter missed almost two weeks with an illness, but was able to return for the first game of this four-game series against St. Louis. The Brewers will want to get Suter back in a groove without overworking him over the final two weeks.

Atlanta manager Brian Snitker announced that Chavez will serve as the team's opening pitcher in a bullpen game Tuesday in Arizona, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Chavez will be filling the rotation spot that previously belonged to Touki Toussaint, who will be available out of the bullpen Tuesday along with all of Atlanta's other relievers, according to Snitker. In his lone other outing as an opener this season back on June 24 against the Reds, Chavez covered 2.1 innings and gave up two runs while striking out three. He's made only two one-inning appearances over the past week, so Chavez should be able to cover 2-to-3 frames Tuesday before giving way to the bullpen.

Webb (5-3) earned the win in relief Monday against the Diamondbacks after tossing a scoreless inning, striking out two.

Webb pitched the fifth inning and was extremely effective, needing just 13 pitches (eight strikes) to get the job done. He extended his streak of appearances without allowing an earned run to 14 (15 innings) and continues to be a reliable arm out of the bullpen for Atlanta.
