Neris did not allow a baserunner and struck out one to earn the save Wednesday.

Neris made quick work of the Cardinals, as he required only nine pitches to set down the side and record his fifth save. He's been excellent from both a results (1.69 ERA and 1.03 WHIP over 10.2 innings) and skills perspective early on this season and is locked into save chances for the time being.

Weathers was removed from Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks with left arm soreness.

The 21-year-old delivered a scoreless first inning Wednesday, but he was visited by the athletic trainer while showing decreased velocity and was pulled after the frame. The severity of the injury remains unclear, but it could be another tough blow for an already depleted pitching staff. Weathers' status for his next turn through the rotation will remain up in the air until more information is available.

Wilson will start Thursday against the Cubs on three days rest, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

The 21-year-old is expected to cover a few innings as a pseudo-opener for Thursday's series finale after starting Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader and throwing 61 pitches across four innings. Wilson has allowed five runs on 11 hits with a 5:3 K:BB through nine innings this season.

Lamet (forearm tightness) could start Sunday's game against the Giants, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

It would be shocking to see Lamet take the hill this weekend after exiting a start April 21 with forearm tightness, but he threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Wednesday and he appears to be much closer to a return than originally anticipated. Even if he does start, it seems unlikely that he would log a full starter's workload in his first game back.

Santos was optioned to the Giants' alternate training site Wednesday, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Santos is going to be an important part of San Francisco's bullpen later this season and in future years, but the team is going to ease him into that role. He will get more seasoning against minor-league competition in the short term but should be back up sometime in the coming weeks.

Gonzalez (illness) was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list Wednesday.

Gonzalez was dealing with COVID-19 vaccine side effects Tuesday, but he'll be available once again Wednesday. Outfielder DJ Peters was sent down in a corresponding move.

Santos (0-2) allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and a walk with one strikeout in Tuesday's extra-inning loss to the Rockies.

Santos gave up back-to-back home runs to Ryan McMahon and C.J. Cron, and the Giants weren't able to dig out of that hole. After beginning his big-league career with a scoreless inning, Santos has given up six runs (five earned) over his last two outings, both losses. He'll need to produce better results to continue getting high-leverage assignments.

May struck out two in a perfect eighth inning during Tuesday's loss to the Red Sox.

Entering the game with New York down 2-1, May fanned Bobby Dalbec and Franchy Cordero to prevent Boston from extending its lead. The right-hander took the loss in a shaky season debut but hasn't given up an earned run since, posting a 9:1 K:BB over his last six innings to lower his ERA to 2.84. Should anything happen to Edwin Diaz, May is the most likely candidate to step into the closer role for the Mets.

The Brewers designated Bickford for assignment Wednesday.

Bickford was cast off the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster to clear room for right-hander Zack Godley, whose contract was selected from the alternate training site ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday against the Marlins. A 2015 first-round pick, Bickford has made only two career relief appearances at the big-league level, giving up six earned runs in two innings.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed after Tuesday's 6-5 loss to the Reds that Gonzalez was placed on the injured list earlier in the day due to COVID-19 vaccine-related reasons, Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Gonzalez and Mitch White both apparently weren't feeling 100 percent after recently receiving vaccine shots, prompting the Dodgers to place the two pitchers on the IL. Roberts indicated that Gonzalez could be activated from the IL as soon as Wednesday.
