A.J. Puk RP | ARI
Diamondbacks' A.J. Puk: Pulled off throwing program
Manager Torey Lovullo said Friday that the Diamondbacks have paused Puk's (elbow) throwing program, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.
Puk has been on the injured list since mid-April due to inflammation in his elbow, and he was recently cleared to begin throwing from 120 feet out. However, he's now been shut down from throwing and is scheduled to see a doctor within the next few days. More details on what that might mean for his return timeline will have to wait until after his appointment, but pausing a throwing program rarely leads to good news.

Dennis Santana RP | PIT
Pirates' Dennis Santana: Picks up second win
Santana (2-1) blew the save but earned the win against the Cubs on Friday, striking out one batter across 1.2 innings without allowing a run, hit or walk.
Santana was brought out of the bullpen for the eighth inning with runners on the corners. He was able to force a fielder's choice groundout against Dansby Swanson, but that allowed Kyle Tucker to score from third base to tie the game at 1-1. Santana returned to the mound for the ninth and kept the Cubs off the board, and he was credited with the win after the Pirates scored in the top of the 10th. Santanta has a 1.80 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 25:5 K:BB across 30 innings this season.

David Bednar RP | NYY
Pirates' David Bednar: Collects 10th save
Bednar earned the save against the Cubs on Friday after tossing a perfect 10th inning.
Bednar was brought in for the 10th frame to protect the Pirates' 2-1 lead and took care of the top of the Cubs' order on just 13 pitches (11 strikes). He's recorded a save in four of his last five outings and has converted all 10 save opportunities this season. Bednar has a 3.42 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 33:5 K:BB across 23.2 innings this season.

Blake Treinen RP | LAD
Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Throws bullpen session
Treinen (forearm) threw a bullpen session Friday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
Treinen was cleared to play catch in mid-May, and Friday marked his second bullpen session since landing on the injured list in mid-April due to a right forearm sprain. He'll likely need multiple bullpen sessions without setbacks before embarking on a rehab assignment, by which point the Dodgers should have a better idea of a timeline for his return to the majors. Treinen posted a 3.38 ERA and 1.38 WHIP across eight innings prior to his injury.

Justin Martinez RP | ARI
Diamondbacks' Justin Martinez: Will undergo TJ surgery
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Friday that Martinez (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery, Aaron Hughes of SI.com reports.
Martinez was already ruled out for the rest of the 2025 season due to a UCL sprain in the right elbow. After multiple consults, the 23-year-old will undergo Tommy John surgery for a second time after going through with the procedure in 2021. Given the timeline for recovery, Martinez will miss a significant portion of the 2026 season. Shelby Miller is the next man up to take on closing duties for Arizona in Martinez's absence.

Mason Thompson RP | TEX
Nationals' Mason Thompson: Close to rehab assignment
Nationals manager Dave Martinez said Friday that Thompson (elbow) will make one more outing in the Florida Complex League before embarking on a rehab assignment, Spencer Nusbaum of The Washington Post reports.
Thompson is in the final stages of his recovery from Tommy John surgery that he underwent in March of 2024. If all goes well with his next outing in the FCL, the 27-year-old right-hander will be given the green light to start a rehab assignment and work his way back up to the majors. He appeared in 51 regular-season games out of the bullpen for the Nationals in 2023 and posted a 5.50 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, three saves, 10 holds and a 44:22 K:BB across 54 innings.

Brooks Raley RP | NYM
Mets' Brooks Raley: Could start rehab assignment soon
Raley may be ready to begin a rehab assignment as soon as next week, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reported Friday.
Raley is recovering from Tommy John surgery with an internal brace augmentation he underwent last May and is almost healthy enough to see game action. Per Mastracco, Raley will likely require the full 30-day ramp-up period before being activated, which puts him on pace for a return near the All-Star break.

Michael Darrell-Hicks RP | PIT
Pirates' Michael Darrell-Hicks: Claimed by PIT
The Pirates claimed Darrell-Hicks off waivers from the Angels on Friday and optioned him to Triple-A Indianapolis.
The Angels DFA'd Darrell-Hicks on Sunday, and the 27-year-old reliever will get a fresh start with the Pirates. He'll start out at Triple-A and will likely need to show significant improvement in order to reach the 26-man roster. Darrell-Hicks logged a 9.39 ERA over 7.2 innings with the Halos and an 8.87 ERA in 22.1 innings at Triple-A Salt Lake City this season

Justin Martinez RP | ARI
Diamondbacks' Justin Martinez: Out for season
Manager Torey Lovullo said Friday that Martinez (elbow) is expected to be sidelined for at least 12-to-13 months, Jack Sommers of SI.com reports.
The right-hander is still headed for a second opinion on the UCL sprain that sent him to the injured list earlier this week, but the initial diagnosis is apparently severe enough to safely rule him out for the next year. Martinez's absence could extend through the entirety of the 2026 campaign if traditional Tommy John surgery is necessary. Shelby Miller picked up his seventh save of the season Wednesday, and it appears he'll get the first crack at taking over as Arizona's closer.

Max Kranick RP | NYM
Mets' Max Kranick: Brought up to active roster
The Mets recalled Kranick from Triple-A Syracuse on Friday.
Kranick made the Opening Day roster but was sent down to Syracuse on June 3 after logging a 3.51 ERA across 33.1 innings for the Mets. The 27-year-old returns to the big-league club Friday, slotting into a middle-relief role as he takes the roster spot of Kodai Senga (hamstring).
