  • Nick Burdi RP | NYM

Pirates' Nick Burdi: Set for MLB debut

Burdi (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day disabled list Saturday and added to the Pirates' active roster.

Burdi has pitched nine innings this season at High-A, Double-A and Triple-A while working his way back from Tommy john surgery. He allowed a combined seven runs on 16 hits and six walks while striking out 14. The 25-year-old has an electric fastball and slider, though, like most relief prospects, he comes with command concerns.

  • Nick Wittgren RP | SEA

Marlins' Nick Wittgren: Called up Saturday

Wittgren was called up by Miami on Saturday.

Wittgren will provide additional bullpen depth for the Marlins down the stretch. He's posted a solid 3.63 ERA in 22.1 major-league innings so far this season.

  • Lucas Sims RP | CHW

Reds' Lucas Sims: Summoned to majors

Sims was recalled from Triple-A Louisville on Saturday.

Sims was part of a three-player package acquired from the Braves in exchange for Adam Duvall in July. The Reds want to see how he fares in the majors over the final month of the season after posting a solid 3.81 ERA and 32:5 K:BB across five starts with the Bats following the trade. At this point, it's unclear if the right-hander will work in long relief or if he'll get a chance to start for the out-of-contention Reds. Sims owns a career 5.96 ERA across 68 big-league innings over the past two seasons.

  • Cardinals' Daniel Poncedeleon: Called up and starting Saturday

Poncedeleon was called up as expected ahead of his scheduled start Saturday against the Reds.

Poncedeleon spent some time in the minors over the last 10 days as the Cardinals didn't need a fifth starter, but he's back with the team in September and will be make at least one more start. The 26-year-old has thrown 21.2 innings with a sparkling 2.08 ERA this season, though it's taken a .204 BABIP and a 89.6 percent strand rate to get to that point. His strikeout rate of 21.2 percent is unremarkable, while he's posted a high walk rate (11.8 percent) and a low groundball rate (32.1 percent).

  • Tyler Webb RP | MIN

Cardinals' Tyler Webb: Back with big club

Webb was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Friday.

Webb has bounced between Triple-A and the majors throughout the season, spending time with the Padres and Cardinals. The lefty has posted an unremarkable 4.97 ERA in 12.2 innings in the big leagues. He's unlikely to receive high-leverage innings down the stretch.

  • John Axford RP | MIL

Dodgers' John Axford: Walking without crutches

Axford (leg) was able to walk around the Dodgers' clubhouse without the aid of crutches Friday, the Associated Press reports.

The right-hander, who has been sidelined since Aug. 12 with a fractured right fibula, hasn't been cleared to resume a throwing program, so until that happens, the Dodgers likely won't have a clear idea when he might be ready to come off the disabled list. If Axford is able to return by mid-to-late September, he'll likely be ticketed for middle-relief duty.

  • Mike Mayers RP | TOR

Cardinals' Mike Mayers: Return to throwing imminent

Mayers (shoulder) is set to resume throwing at some point next week, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

Mayers hit the disabled list last Sunday with right shoulder inflammation and has been shut down from throwing since. If all goes well once he picks up a baseball again, the right-hander could potentially be activated after missing the minimum 10 days or very shortly thereafter.

  • Andrew Suarez RP | BAL

Giants' Andrew Suarez: Brilliant in win over Mets

Suarez (6-9) picked up the win against the Mets on Friday, giving up just two hits over seven scoreless innings. He struck out five and walked none in the Giants' 7-0 victory.

It was smooth sailing for Suarez in this contest, as he breezed to his sixth victory of the season. It was also the second game in a row he's gone seven innings without allowing a run. Overall, Suarez is sporting a 4.19 ERA, a 1.27 WHIP and a 113:34 K:BB over 133.1 innings this season.

  • Kenley Jansen RP | DET

Dodgers' Kenley Jansen: Gets back on track with save

Jansen struck out one and got the save against the Diamondbacks on Friday, working around a hit to record a scoreless ninth inning and close out a 3-2 victory for the Dodgers.

Jansen had uncharacteristically given up three earned runs over his last two appearances coming into this contest, but he was able to right the ship and lock down his 33rd save of the season with against Arizona. Jansen's ERA is still a solid 3.03 on the season, although that number is higher than we're used to seeing from the 30-year-old right-hander, who has a 2.19 mark for his career.

  • Nick Pivetta SP | SD

Phillies' Nick Pivetta: Strikes out six in no-decision

Pivetta didn't factor into the decision Friday against the Cubs, allowing one run on five hits and three walks across five innings. He struck out six.

Pivetta dealt with traffic for most of the evening, though he was able to limit the damage to a Javy Baez solo homer in the fifth inning. It was a nice bounce-back start from the right-hander, who had allowed 11 runs over his previous two starts (10.1 innings) heading into Friday. Pivetta now owns a 4.66 ERA and 168:41 K:BB across 141 innings this season. He'll face the Marlins in Miami next.
