  • Colin Selby RP | BAL

Pirates' Colin Selby: Loses 40-man spot

The Pirates designated Selby for assignment Tuesday.

Selby will be squeezed off the Pirates' 40-man roster following the acquisition of Joey Bart from San Francisco. The 26-year-old right-hander made 21 appearances for the Pirates in 2023, accumulating a gaudy 9.00 ERA and 1.83 WHIP across 24 innings. His Triple-A numbers have been decent since reaching Indianapolis in 2022, but his poor performance during his first MLB stint may prevent teams from claiming him off waivers.

  • Dodgers' Brusdar Graterol: Moves to 60-day IL

The Dodgers transferred Graterol (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Tuesday, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Graterol's move to the 60-day IL clears a spot on the Dodgers' 40-man roster for Nick Ramirez, who was acquired from the Yankees on Tuesday. Graterol was cleared to throw off a mound Tuesday -- the first time he's done so since landing on the IL with right shoulder inflammation. The 25-year-old right-hander is now eligible to return beginning May 18, but it remains to be seen whether or not he'll be ready by then.

  • Jake Junis RP | TEX

Brewers' Jakob Junis: Fires four efficient innings

Junis struck out four and allowed one run on three hits and a walk over four innings Tuesday against the Twins. He did not factor in the decision.

Junis pounded the zone while firing 34 of his 47 pitches for strikes, but the Brewers clearly had a plan in place and went to the bullpen to begin the fifth inning. The right-hander missed out on the victory, but it was an encouraging first start of the season, one that could earn him a longer leash in subsequent outings. Junis may only have a couple turns to stake his claim to a rotation spot with Wade Miley (shoulder) nearing a rehab assignment.

  • Abner Uribe RP | MIL

Brewers' Abner Uribe: Picks up third save

Uribe allowed no hits and one walk in a scoreless ninth inning earn the save in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Twins. He did not record a strikeout.

The 23-year-old righty issued a five-pitch walk to start the frame but promptly induced a double play and retired the side on just eight pitches. Uribe already has three saves for the 4-0 Brewers, with Joel Payamps also notching a save when Uribe had pitched the previous two days. Uribe appears to be separating himself as the top option to close with Devin Williams (back) facing an extended absence to begin the season.

  • Paul Sewald RP | ARI

    Diamondbacks' Paul Sewald: Playing catch

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Sewald (oblique) played catch from 60 feet Monday, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

The right-hander suffered a Grade 2 oblique strain late in spring training, so the fact he's back to throwing just over a week later is an encouraging development. Sewald will need to progress to throwing long toss before moving onto bullpen sessions, so he shouldn't be expected to be activated when first eligible April 9.

  • Ryan Brasier RP | TEX

    Dodgers' Ryan Brasier: Opening Tuesday

Brasier is starting Tuesday's game against the Giants, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Timesreports.

The veteran right-hander has given up one run and recorded three strikeouts over three innings this season, and he will make the second start of his career Tuesday as he serves as Los Angeles' opener. Ryan Yarbrough is expected to serve as the primary pitcher behind Brasier, though Michael Grove could also be in the mix.

  • Ricardo Pinto RP | PHI

Phillies' Ricardo Pinto: Selected from Triple-A

The Phillies selected Pinto from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

In a corresponding move, Connor Brogdon was designated for assignment. Pinto signed a minor-league contract with the Phillies in February. The pitcher spent 2023 playing in Mexico and Venezuela, where he had a 4.12 ERA across 137.2 innings. When he last pitched in affiliated baseball in 2022, Pinto posted a 3.58 ERA across 32.2 innings for Triple-A Toledo in the Tigers organization. Pinto was serviceable in Grapefruit League play this spring, allowing two earned runs in 5.2 innings.

  • Connor Brogdon RP | CLE

Phillies' Connor Brogdon: Designated for assignment

The Phillies designated Brogdon for assignment Tuesday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Brogdon will lose his spot on Philadelphia's 40-man roster one day after surrendering four runs (three earned) over just two-thirds of an inning Monday against the Reds. The 29-year-old righty holds a 3.88 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in his MLB career and may attract interest from other teams in need of bullpen depth. Ricardo Pinto was selected from Triple-A Lehigh Valley in a corresponding move.

  • Matt Gage RP | SF

Dodgers' Matt Gage: Designated for assignment

Gage was designated for assignment by the Dodgers on Tuesday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

The move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for waiver claim Taylor Trammell. Gage was acquired via trade from the Yankees in February but did not make the Opening Day roster. He holds a 1.83 ERA and 20:9 K:BB across 19.2 innings in the majors, so there could be some interest via trade or waivers.

  • Yunior Marte RP | CIN

Phillies' Yunior Marte: Strikes out one in loss

Marte threw a perfect inning while striking out one in Monday's 6-3 loss against the Reds.

Through three appearances, the relief pitcher has covered three innings while recording one walk and two strikeouts. Marte hasn't been used in any high-leverage situations, as he's taken the mound in each of the team's losses, with two outings coming when the score was well out of reach. Expect the 29-year-old to remain in a low-leverage role for the immediate future.
