Nationals' Cory Abbott: Sent to Triple-A

The Nationals optioned Abbott to Triple-A Rochester on Sunday.

Abbott was sent back to Triple-A to make room on the 26-man active roster for right-hander Mason Thompson (knee), who was reinstated from the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. During his latest stint with the Nationals, Abbott made 14 appearances out of the bullpen and compiled an 8.37 ERA and 1.94 WHIP over 23.2 innings.

  • Mason Thompson RP | TEX

Nationals' Mason Thompson: Returns from injured list

Thompson (knee) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list Sunday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

Thompson landed on the injured list Aug. 5 with a left knee contusion, but he's ready to rejoin the Nationals after a one-outing rehab assignment. The right-hander has 10 holds while working as part of the bridge to the late innings for the Nationals, but he has a 4.56 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 40:19 K:BB across 47.1 innings.

  • Tommy Doyle RP | COL

Rockies' Tommy Doyle: Summoned to majors

The Rockies recalled Doyle from Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Doyle was optioned to Albuquerque a week and a half ago, but he'll be eligible to rejoin the Rockies bullpen after Colorado placed reliever Tyler Kinley (elbow) on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. In six appearances with Colorado this season, Doyle has pitched mostly in lower-leverage spots while giving up five earned runs on nine hits and five walks in 11.1 innings.

  • Tyler Kinley RP | ATL

Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Back on IL with elbow issue

The Rockies placed Kinley on the 15-day injured list Sunday with right elbow inflammation, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

After undergoing flexor tendon surgery last June, Kinley spent more than a year recovering and rehabbing before the Rockies brought him back from the 60-day injured list Aug. 1. Upon being activated, Kinley worked his way back into the setup ranks but largely struggled over his seven appearances, giving up six runs on 10 hits and two walks while striking out eight over 5.2 innings. Now that Kinley is back on the IL with another injury in his surgically repaired elbow, the Rockies are likely to proceed cautiously with bringing him back. Colorado called up right-hander Tommy Doyle from Triple-A Albuquerque to replace Kinley in the bullpen.

  • Vinny Nittoli RP | BOS

Mets' Vinny Nittoli: Heads back to Triple-A

The Mets optioned Nittoli to Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday.

New York will swap one right-handed reliever on to the active roster for another, exchanging Nittoli for Reed Garrett, who was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move. Garrett will give the Mets a fresh arm after Nittoli tossed two innings out of the bullpen while giving up a run in Saturday's 13-2 win over the Cardinals.

  • Reed Garrett RP | NYM

    Mets' Reed Garrett: Gets call-up

The Mets recalled Garrett from Triple-A Syracuse ahead of Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

New York sent right-hander Vinny Nittoli to Triple-A in a corresponding move to clear room for another right-hander in the bullpen in Garrett. Over 9.2 innings in the big leagues between the Orioles and Mets in 2023, Garrett has given up 13 earned runs on 15 hits and six walks.

  • Angel Perdomo RP | LAA

Pirates' Angel Perdomo: Out with elbow discomfort

The Pirates placed Perdomo on the 15-day injured list Sunday with left elbow discomfort, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.

Perdomo presumably picked up the injury during his most recent relief appearance in the Pirates' 5-1 loss to Minnesota on Friday, when he was touched up for two earned runs on three hits and one walk while retiring two batters. The Pirates could send Perdomo in for additional tests on his elbow to determine if he's dealing with anything more than soreness, but the southpaw will be on the shelf for at least the next two weeks. Right-handed reliever Dauri Moreta (back) was brought back from the 15-day IL in a corresponding move.

  • Dauri Moreta RP | PIT

Pirates' Dauri Moreta: Makes return from IL

The Pirates reinstated Moreta (back) from the 15-day injured list Sunday.

Moreta received the green light to rejoin Pittsburgh after striking out two over a scoreless inning in his lone rehab appearance Thursday with Triple-A Indianapolis. Prior to landing on the IL on Aug. 4 with lower-back soreness, Moreta had notched four wins, one save and four holds over 48.1 innings out of the Pittsburgh bullpen while pitching to a 4.10 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 63:22 K:BB. He should step back into a key setup role in front of closer David Bednar.

  • Alan Busenitz RP | CIN

Reds' Alan Busenitz: Sent back to Triple-A

The Reds optioned Busenitz to Triple-A Louisville on Sunday.

He'll cede his spot on the 26-man active for to right-hander Hunter Greene (hip), who was reinstated from the 60-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Sunday versus the Blue Jays. During his four-day stint with the Reds, Busenitz tossed a scoreless inning in his lone relief appearance.

  • Ryan Borucki RP | SF

Pirates' Ryan Borucki: Opening Sunday's game

Borucki will serve as the Pirates' opening pitcher for Sunday's game against the Twins, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.

He's expected to work in front of Osvaldo Bido, who will likely serve as a bulk reliever after he had been initially listed as the Pirates' starting pitcher for the series finale in Minnesota. The left-handed Borucki previously served as an opener for Bido on July 22 against the Angels, striking out three over 1.2 scoreless frames.
