Diaz picked up the save Tuesday against Chicago, allowing one walk and no hits across a scoreless ninth inning.

Diaz converted on his 14th consecutive save chance and fired his second consecutive hitless appearance. The 27-year-old has a 4.23 ERA in 38.1 innings but has generally been reliable in the ninth inning, having blown merely two saves. Diaz is one of eight closers with more than 20 saves on the season.

Suarez (6-1) got the win Tuesday against the Dodgers after striking out two in a scoreless 10th inning.

Suarez was called upon to pitch the 10th after the Padres rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth to send the game to extras. He made the job look easy, striking out the first two batters before getting Andy Pages to fly out on the first pitch he saw for a quick 10-pitch inning. The Padres would go on to walk it off in the bottom half of the frame and Suarez was credited with his second win in as many appearances. Suarez is now working on a scoreless streak of seven innings and has struck out multiple hitters in three straight appearances. The Padres traded for lefty reliever Tanner Scott, who is having an excellent season with a 1.18 ERA and 18 saves, but Suarez remains the favorite for closing duties unless his performance starts to slip over the second half of the year.

The Yankees recalled Marinaccio from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday.

Marinaccio holds a 2.84 ERA and 19:9 K:BB over 19 innings during his time in the majors this season. He'll operate in middle relief for the Yankees.

Treinen blew a save in Tuesday's loss to the Padres, allowing two runs on two hits while also striking out two over an inning of work.

Treinen was given the ball for the ninth inning with the Dodgers up 5-3 and could not convert. He allowed a first-pitch home run to Manny Machado before Jackson Merrill knotted things up with a home run of his own two batters later. Prior to his last two outings, Treinen had not given up an earned run the entire month of July spanning over 10 appearances, but he's now surrendered three runs on three homers over his last two appearances. The Dodgers' bullpen has been a mess in July, with four different pitchers garnering saves, as manager Dave Roberts has yet to figure out a permanent solution for their closer role. Treinen would've been the fifth reliever this month to record a save had he been able to convert. Still, the 35-year-old has posted good numbers overall with a 2.86 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 37:9 K:BB in 28.1 innings.

Harvey recorded his 28th hold of the season in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the White Sox, giving up a run on two hits over one inning while striking out two.

The right-hander left Sunday's game due to lower-back spasms, but Harvey was back in action a couple days later. The Royals added another high-leverage arm at the trade deadline in Lucas Erceg, which likely puts another reliever between Harvey and save chances, but he should remain in a setup role.

Martinez (5-5) was the pitcher of record in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Cubs, allowing four hits and no walks while striking out three over four scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

Martinez entered the game behind opening pitcher Tony Santillan and threw his most innings since late May. The Reds shipped starter Frankie Montas out to the Brewers on Monday and will now have a permanent opening for the fifth spot in the rotation. Cincinnati could turn to Martinez to fill the void, given that he's already relatively built up and made five starts earlier this season.

Long struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Tuesday to record his first save of the season in a 4-3 win over the White Sox.

With James McArthur having coughed up eight runs in his last three appearances and trade-deadline acquisition Lucas Erceg not yet having joined the team, Long got a look in the ninth and carved up Chicago's 6-7-8 hitters. The southpaw has given up only one run in 8.1 July innings with a 9:1 K:BB, and while he's unlikely to see many additional save chances, Long appears to be establishing himself as the top option from the left side in the Kansas City bullpen.

Diaz struck out two over 1.1 perfect innings Tuesday to record his 13th save of the season in a 2-0 win over the Twins.

The Mets closer fanned Byron Buxton and Royce Lewis en route to his fifth straight successful conversion. Diaz has been brilliant since coming off the IL in mid-June, posting a 0.82 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 13:5 K:BB over 11 innings with two wins and eight saves in 11 appearances.

Stratton allowed two hits and struck out two over one inning Tuesday against the Astros.

Stratton made his first appearance since being activated from the injured list and worked the ninth inning in a non-save situation. Both Aroldis Chapman and David Bednar were likely unavailable, though Stratton should work in some high-leverage spots in the final two months of the season.

Strickland struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 10-7 win over the Rockies.

Strickland got the first save after the trade deadline, which saw the Angels ship out Carlos Estevez to the Phillies over the weekend and Luis Garcia to the Red Sox earlier Tuesday. Strickland has limited experience as a closer -- his career high for saves in a year is 14 with the Giants in 2018, and he logged seven saves over 66 appearances with the Reds in 2022 before failing to appear in a big-league game in 2023. It's unclear if Strickland will get a chance to run with the closer role, though he's pitched well this year with a 3.06 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 41:13 K:BB over 50 innings while adding six holds. Ben Joyce also figures to be in the mix, but he worked in the eighth inning Tuesday in a high-leverage spot against the middle of the Rockies' order.
