  • Liam Hendriks RP | CHC

White Sox's Liam Hendriks: Four-out save Wednesday

Hendriks earned the save after he pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, walking two batters while striking out one in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Red Sox.

Hendriks entered the game with two outs in the eighth frame after Joe Kelly was forced to exit with left hamstring tightness, getting Christian Vazquez to ground out to end the inning. He then returned in the ninth inning, working around two walks to grab his 14th save of the season. Hendriks has now worked 5.1 scoreless frames since blowing back-to-back saves earlier in May, allowing three hits and walking two while striking out eight and going 5-for-5 on save opportunities.

  • Joe Kelly RP | LAD

White Sox's Joe Kelly: Leaves with hamstring tightness

Kelly was removed from Wednesday's game against the Red Sox with left hamstring tightness.

Kelly needed only seven pitches to strike out the only two batters he faced during the eighth inning, but he appeared to tweak his hamstring on his last pitch and promptly exited the contest. The severity of the injury remains unclear and the veteran right-hander will be evaluated further Thursday morning, so he's likely to be unavailable for the series finale versus Boston.

  • Mets' Thomas Szapucki: Disastrous first start

Szapucki (0-1) allowed nine earned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out two across 1.1 innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Giants.

Szapucki was called up to make his first big-league start to fill an opening in the rotation after the Mets had a doubleheader over the weekend. However, he was crushed for four home runs prior to being yanked after recording just four outs. Szapucki will likely find himself back at Triple-A Syracuse in the coming days, where he has maintained a 2.86 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 30:9 K:BB across 22 innings.

  • Jakob Junis RP | TEX

Giants' Jakob Junis: Earns second win

Junis (2-1) allowed two earned runs on three hits and one walk while striking out four across six innings to earn the win Wednesday against the Mets.

Junis was handed a nine-run lead after two innings, and he held the Mets in check thanks to nine groundball outs. The primary damage against him came in the sixth inning when Francisco Lindor took him yard for a solo home run. However, Junis still managed to record his first quality start of the campaign, and his first win since April 22. Overall, Junis has maintained a 2.76 ERA and 24:5 K:BB across 32.2 innings.

  • Red Sox's Josh Winckowski: Should make MLB debut Saturday

Manager Alex Cora said Winckowski is likely to be promoted to start Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Orioles, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

The 23-year-old has a 3.13 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 34:6 K:BB over 31.2 innings for Triple-A Worcester this season, and he's now expected to make his major-league debut this weekend. It may only be a spot start for Winckowski, but a strong performance could increase the likelihood of another promotion later in the year.

  • Guardians' Konnor Pilkington: Set to start Thursday

Pilkington will be recalled from Triple-A Columbus to start Thursday's game against the Tigers, Joe Noga of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

The 24-year-old is poised to make his second big-league start of the season after Thursday's originally scheduled starter, Aaron Civale (glute), was placed on the injured list. Pilkington has given up two earned runs with an 11:4 K:BB over 8.2 major-league innings this season, and a decent showing in Detroit could earn him more opportunities in the rotation.

  • Ian Gibaut RP | CIN

Guardians' Ian Gibaut: Activated from injured list

Gibaut (finger) was reinstated from the 7-day minor-league injured list Wednesday.

Gibaut sustained a dislocated finger on his right hand in early May but has been cleared to return to game action after missing just over three weeks. Over seven relief appearances at Triple-A Columbus this year, the right-hander has posted a 7.04 ERA and 1.81 WHIP in 7.2 innings.

  • Anthony Bender RP | MIA

Marlins' Anthony Bender: Lands on injured list

Bender (back) was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday, retroactive to May 23, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Bender hasn't pitched since May 18, and he's apparently been dealing with a back injury that has kept him out of action. He'll be sidelined until at least early June, while Cole Sulser, Dylan Floro and Anthony Bass should continue to see the majority of high-leverage work in Bender's absence.

  • Alex Wells RP | BAL

Orioles' Alexander Wells: Shifts to 60-day injured list

Wells (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Wednesday.

Wells has been on the injured list since April 29 due to a Grade 1 UCL strain of his left elbow, and he's expected to miss 8-to-12 weeks. That timetable means that he'll likely be sidelined until after the All-Star break, so his move to the 60-day IL shouldn't impact his outlook.

  • Yankees' Jonathan Loaisiga: Sidelined with shoulder discomfort

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Loaisiga will be placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with right shoulder discomfort, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.

Loaisiga becomes the third high-leverage reliever to land on injured list within the past five days, joining Chad Green (Tommy John surgery) and Aroldis Chapman (Achilles). The Yankees are hoping that Loaisiga will be ready to go after a near-minimum length stay on the shelf, but his absence along with Green's and Chapman's suddenly tests the depth of the club's bullpen. Clay Holmes now looks like the clear top candidate to see the bulk of the save opportunities for the Yankees, while multi-inning weapon Michael King could be counted on to handle a more traditional setup role.
