Garrett picked up the save in Friday's 6-5 win over the Yankees, allowing one hit and no walks in two scoreless innings. He struck out one.

With closer Edwin Diaz having worked each of the prior two days, Garrett was able to record the final six outs of Friday's game for his third save of the year. Garrett should remain a high-leverage arm moving forward -- he has 14 holds this season -- although save chances should be harder to come by when Diaz is available out of the bullpen. Garrett has blown five save opportunities in 2025, and he also has an 11.25 ERA, 2.13 WHIP and 8:5 K:BB over his last eight innings.

Bummer will serve as the opening pitcher in a bullpen game for Atlanta in Saturday's matchup with the Orioles, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Atlanta has an opening in its rotation after Spencer Schwellenbach (elbow) landing on the injured list earlier this week, but the team won't immediately turn to a traditional starter to replace him. Instead, manager Brian Snitker plans to lean on a group of relievers to get the team through Saturday's contest, with Bummer leading off the proceedings in what will be his first MLB start and his first in the professional ranks since 2017. Bummer made 2.2- and 2.1-inning appearances in his last two relief outings, so he could be capable of working once through the Baltimore lineup before turning the game over to the bullpen.

Hagenman didn't factor into the decision Friday against the Yankees, giving up four runs on five hits and no walks in 4.1 innings. He struck out five.

Hagenman served up three home runs, two of which came in the opening frame. The right-hander settled down a bit afterward to eat some innings for a depleted Mets rotation, fanning a season-high five in his longest outing of the year. Through 10.1 frames, Hagenman owns a 4.35 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 10:0 K:BB. His next turn in New York's rotation lines up to be against the Orioles at Camden Yards, although it's possible Kodai Senga (hamstring) will be able to return for that spot.

The Pirates released Ramirez on Friday.

Ramirez pitched in 24 games for Triple-A Indianapolis this season, earning six saves and posting a 3.29 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 35:10 K:BB over 27.1 innings as a reliever. The right-hander has pitched with eight different teams over five seasons in the majors, compiling a career 4.58 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 173:86 K:BB over 169 frames. Ramirez will presumably need to accept another minor-league deal to find work in another organization.

The Astros designated Weems for assignment Friday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Since joining the active roster June 24, Weems has made two appearances for Houston, giving up two runs across three total innings. He'll now lose his spot on the 26-man and 40-man rosters in favor of Jason Alexander, who was recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land in a corresponding move.

Pomeranz is slated to serve as the Cubs' opening pitcher for Saturday's game against the Cardinals, Jared Wyllys of AllCHGO.com reports.

Chicago has a hole in its rotation after Jameson Taillon (calf) landed on the 15-day injured list Friday. Jordan Wicks was called up from Triple-A on Friday to take Taillon's roster spot, and he could pitch in bulk relief behind Pomeranz, though the Cubs haven't confirmed their plans for when the latter exits the contest. Pomeranz has worked as an opener twice this season and tossed exactly one inning both times, so he should be expected to see about the same workload this time around.

Pagan earned the save in Friday's 9-6 win over the Phillies, allowing one hit without recording a walk or a strikeout in a scoreless ninth inning.

Pagan was summoned to protect a three-run lead in the ninth inning and did so on 16 pitches. It was the 34-year-old's first save since June 22, but he's now allowed only one earned run over his past 12 outings. On the season, he's 19-for-22 in save chances with a 2.92 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 45:12 K:BB across 37 innings.

The Blue Jays optioned Bruihl to Triple-A Buffalo on Friday.

Bruihl pitched a scoreless one-third of an inning to earn a hold in Thursday's win over the Yankees, bringing his ERA down to 2.70 in four appearances with the big club this season. The lefty will presumably be back in Toronto before the end of 2025, but for now he will make room for right-hander Lazaro Estrada, who can provide more length out of the bullpen.

The White Sox reinstated Ellard (lat) from the 60-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Charlotte on Friday.

Ellard held his opponents scoreless in each of his final five rehab appearances with Charlotte, but the White Sox will need to see more before returning the lefty to the major-league roster. He made seven appearances out of the Chicago bullpen before going down with the lat injury, posting a 6.75 ERA and 1.05 WHIP over 6.2 innings.

Law (forearm) resumed his rehab assignment Wednesday, logging a scoreless inning for Triple-A Rochester, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Law reported a recurrence of arm soreness last week but he was only shut down for a brief period before getting back into game action. This was Law's first scoreless appearance in four rehab outings. He has not pitched at all in the majors this year, so he may need a few more appearances before he's ready to be activated.
