The Angels optioned Diaz to Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

With Jaime Barria (hamstring) returning from the injured list Saturday, Diaz will be squeezed off the major-league roster. The 27-year-old lefty gave up eight runs in seven innings during his stint with the Angels while striking out four batters and walking seven.

McKenzie (elbow) will be activated from the 60-day injured list to start Sunday's game against the Orioles.

He'll be the second Guardians starting pitcher this weekend to make his return from a lengthy absence due to an elbow injury, after Shane Bieber returned from the 60-day IL on Friday to cover five innings in a win over Baltimore. Like Bieber, McKenzie is expected to face a rough limit of around five innings and 80 pitches while he makes his first start for the big club since June 10 and just his third of the season. After Sunday's outing, McKenzie will likely line up for one final start during the Guardians' season-closing series in Detroit next weekend.

Bieber came away with a no-decision in Friday's 9-8 win over the Orioles, giving up five runs (four earned) on six hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out five.

Two of the runs charged to Bieber in his first big-league start since July 9 scored on a wild pitch in the second inning and his own throwing error in the third. The veteran right-hander had some good moments too though, escaping that third-inning jam with a double-play grounder and a strikeout, and he left the mound after throwing 52 of 81 pitches for strikes. It's been a tough, injury-plagued season for Bieber, whose 3.91 ERA and 12.5 WHIP are his highest marks since he was a rookie in 2018, but he'll likely make one more start before the regular season is through, on the road next weekend in Detroit.

Kremer escaped with a no-decision Friday during the Orioles' 9-8 loss to the Guardians, surrendering six runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks over 3.1 innings. He struck out three.

Fourth-inning errors by Anthony Santander and Gunnar Henderson softened the blow to Kremer's ERA, but the right-hander was far from sharp, managing only eight swinging strikes over his 91 pitches in his shortest outing since June 30. The 27-year-old has faded down the stretch -- Kremer hasn't lasted longer than five innings in any of his four September starts, posting a 4.67 ERA, 1.79 WHIP and 15:11 K:BB through 17.1 innings as he adds to his career-high innings total (167.1). Kremer will look to get back in the win column for the first time since Aug. 23 in his final start of the regular season, likely to come at home next week against the Red Sox.

Rodon won't take the hill Saturday against Arizona as scheduled, as the game has been postponed due to rain.

Per Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the game will be moved to Monday, on what had been a scheduled off day for the Yankees. The Yankees have yet to confirm their reshuffled rotation plans, but it's likely Rodon moves to Sunday, pushing Clarke Schmidt back to Monday.

Gaddis was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Friday.

Gaddis was recalled ahead of his start Thursday. He pitched three scoreless innings versus the Orioles, but he was taken out after taking a hit off of his leg. With Shane Bieber (elbow) returning from the 60-day injured list, the 25-year-old was optioned back down.

Sale came away with a no-decision in Friday's 3-2 win over the White Sox, allowing three hits and a walk over five scoreless innings. He struck out seven.

The veteran southpaw put together another strong outing, but Sale left the mound in line for his fifth loss of the year before Boston rallied in the eighth inning. Since returning from the IL in mid-August, he has a 4.19 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 52:13 K:BB through 38.2 innings, but just one win in eight starts to show for it. Sale figures to take the mound one more time in 2023, on the road next week in Baltimore.

Toussaint came away with a no-decision Friday in the White Sox's 3-2 loss to the Red Sox, allowing one run on five hits and two walks over 6.1 innings. He struck out two.

The right-hander left the mound after 92 pitches (56 strikes) in line for his fifth win, but the Chicago bullpen once again squandered a lead -- the White Sox have 29 blown saves in 2023, tied with the Orioles for the fourth-highest total in the league. Toussaint had to settle for his second quality start of the season, both of which have come in September. He'll carry a 5.10 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 81:54 K:BB through 83 innings into his final start of the year, likely to come at home next week against the Diamondbacks.

Brito gave up a solo home run and struck out three over 3.2 relief innings Friday to record his first career save in a 7-1 win over the Diamondbacks.

A hit-by-pitch and a ninth-inning blast by Christian Walker were the only blemishes on Brito's line. The 25-year-old right-hander has been outstanding in a long relief role down the stretch -- over five September appearances spanning 15 innings, Brito's collected three wins in addition to Friday's save with a 1.20 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and 12:2 K:BB.

Weaver (3-5) picked up the win Friday, allowing four hits over 5.1 scoreless innings in a 7-1 victory over the Diamondbacks. He struck out three without walking a batter.

The veteran right-hander tossed 52 of 78 pitches for strikes in his second straight impressive outing since being claimed off waivers from the Mariners. In two starts and 9.1 innings for the Yankees, Weaver has a 2.89 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 10:2 K:BB. He lines up for one more start before the end of the regular season, on the road next week in Toronto.
