Lyles did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing seven runs on seven hits over five innings against the White Sox in the second game of a doubleheader. He struck out three.

Lyles was cruising Tuesday, holding the White Sox hitless until Eloy Jimenez cranked a home run to lead off the fifth inning. Lyles would then unravel in the sixth, allowing six consecutive hits without recording an out, as he was charged for six more runs. The 32-year-old right-hander has struggled to a 7.14 ERA over his last 10 starts (58 innings). Lyles is now 4-16 with a 6.44 ERA through 28 starts (160.2 innings) this season. He's lined up for a home matchup with the Guardians early next week.

Toussaint did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing eight runs on six hits and two walks over one inning against Kansas City in the second game of a doubleheader. He struck out one.

It was a brutal outing for Toussaint, who allowed four runs in the opening inning before allowing another four without recording an out in the second. However, he'd miraculously avoid a loss as the White Sox rallied to overcome a 9-0 deficit thanks to an eight-run sixth inning. Toussaint had been pitching well coming into Tuesday's outing, going 2-1 with a 2.76 ERA in his prior three outings. His ERA is now up to 5.65 on the season, with a 1.52 WHIP and 71:51 K:BB across 71.2 innings. Toussaint will look to get back on track in his next start, currently scheduled for early next week in Washington.

Verlander (5-3) took the loss Tuesday, allowing five runs on eight hits over seven innings against the Athletics. He struck out seven.

The A's got to Verlander early Tuesday, putting up three runs in the opening inning, including a pair on a Shea Langeliers homer. Verlander would hold Oakland to two runs over his final six frames, though he'd ultimately wind up with just his second loss in his last seven starts. The veteran right-hander had been excellent of late, holding opponents to one run or fewer in three of his prior four outings. His ERA now sits at 3.39 with a 1.16 WHIP and 126:40 K:BB across 24 starts (143.1 innings) between the Astros and Mets this season. Verlander will look to get back on track in his next outing, currently scheduled for early next week against the Orioles.

Wentz allowed five runs (two earned) on six hits across 2.2 innings and did not factor into the decision Tuesday against the Reds. He walked three and struck out one.

While three of the runs he allowed were unearned, Wentz still wasn't particularly effective, allowing nine baserunners while only retiring eight batters. The lefty may stick in the rotation with Detroit dealing with a number of injuries, but he can't be trusted in fantasy at this point. Wentz will carry a 6.65 ERA into a potential start Monday against the Dodgers on the road, and he should be avoided in the tough spot.

Sears (5-11) earned the win Tuesday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over six innings against the Astros. He struck out three.

After allowing a run in the opening frame, Sears settled in and held the potent Astros offense to just one additional run over his final five innings. The 27-year-old southpaw has now won three straight starts, allowing three runs over 17 innings in that span. Sears' ERA is down to 4.45 on the season with a 1.23 WHIP and 144:45 K:BB through 29 starts (157.2 innings). He'll look to keep it rolling in his next start, currently scheduled for early next week against Seattle.

Ryu (3-3) took the loss Tuesday, allowing three runs on five hits and one walk over six innings in a 6-3 loss to the Rangers. He struck out five.

Ryu had his first quality start in Tuesday's outing, as it was his first time going more than five innings this season. The 36-year-old has been solid since returning from Tommy John surgery on Aug. 1, posting a 2.93 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 33:9 K:BB in 40 innings. Ryu is slated to start at Boston in his next outing.

Cease (7-7) earned the win Tuesday, allowing one run on four hits and a walk over 5.1 innings against Kansas City. He struck out eight.

It was a step in the right direction for Cease, who'd struggled to a 9.30 ERA in his prior four starts (20.1 innings). While efficiency remains an issue for Cease (he needed 102 pitches to get through 5.1 innings Tuesday), his 10.8 K/9 ranks as the seventh-highest figure in MLB. Cease's ERA now sits at 4.87 with a 1.46 WHIP and 191:74 K:BB through 30 starts (159 innings) this season. He'll look to build on Tuesday's outing in his next start, currently scheduled for this weekend against the Twins.

Singer (8-11) took the loss Tuesday, allowing six runs on nine hits and two walks over 5.1 innings in a 6-2 loss against the White Sox. He struck out two.

Singer would ultimately settle down after giving up five runs in the opening inning, but the Royals couldn't overcome the early deficit, leaving Singer with his third loss in his last four starts. The 27-year-old right-hander has allowed four runs or more in each of his last four outings, raising his ERA to 5.51 with a 1.44 WHIP and 129:47 K:BB through 28 starts (153.2 innings) this season. Singer's currently in line for a tough home matchup with the Astros in his next outing.

Cortes (shoulder) was transferred from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Tuesday, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of waiver claim Luke Weaver. Though Cortes is expected to resume throwing soon while he recovers from a left rotator cuff strain, the Yankees' decision to move him to the 60-day injured list officially ends his 2023 season. Cortes made just 12 starts for the Yankees this season, posting a 4.97 ERA and 1.25 WHIP across 63.1 innings.

Weaver was claimed off waivers by the Yankees on Tuesday, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.

Weaver had been designated for assignment by the Mariners over the weekend. The right-hander has posted a 6.77 ERA and 93:37 K:BB over 110.1 innings covering 22 starts and four relief appearances in 2023 for the Reds and Mariners. It's not clear at this point whether the Yankees plan to use him as a starter or reliever, but he's almost surely not going to have any fantasy value in either role.
