Rasmussen (9-4) allowed one earned run on six hits and one walk while striking out nine across 5.1 innings to earn the win Thursday against the Angels.

Rasmussen allowed only a solo home run to Taylor Ward and tallied a win in his third consecutive start. He has allowed only four earned runs across 19.1 innings in that span while also maintaining a 24:2 K:BB. With that strong stretch, he now owns a 2.77 ERA across 110.2 frames for the season.

McKenzie (9-10) allowed three earned runs on three hits and two walks while striking out four across six innings to take the loss Thursday against the Mariners.

All the damage against McKenzie came in the first inning when he surrendered a three-run homer to Mitch Haniger. McKenzie recovered from there and managed to turn in his fourth consecutive quality start. Since the All-Star break, he has maintained a 3.11 ERA with 46:10 K:BB across 46.1 frames.

Gonzales (9-12) allowed one earned run on four hits and one walk while striking out four across six innings to earn the win Thursday against the Guardians.

Gonzales allowed his lone earned run of the game in the first inning, and he allowed only one hit across his final five frames of work. Due to his contact-heavy approach, Gonzales will continue to get inconsistent results, though he has now allowed three or fewer earned runs in three of his last four outings. For the season, he owns a 3.97 ERA and a 79:43 K:BB across 140.2 frames.

Lynn did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk over six innings against the Orioles. He struck out eight.

Lynn allowed a two-run homer from outfielder Anthony Santander in the first inning but was otherwise without blemishes. The righty has enjoyed a solid stretch in his last seven starts, turning in a 3.13 ERA and 0.94 WHIP in 37.1 innings. The 35-year-old veteran has pitched six innings in five of his last seven starts.

Schmidt will enter the Yankees' rotation and start Sunday against the Athletics, Marly Rivera of ESPN.com reports.

Nestor Cortes was placed on the injured list Thursday due to a groin injury, opening a spot in the rotation. With Luis Severino (lat) also still out, the Yankees will need to shift to depth to fill their rotation in the short term. Schmidt was recalled to the majors Monday and threw three scoreless innings in relief to earn the win Tuesday against the Mets. Prior to his promotion, Schmidt had worked as many as six innings in the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre rotation, so he may not be on a strict pitch count.

Mahle (shoulder) has resumed throwing and is expected to toss a bullpen session Friday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Mahle has been on the injured list with right shoulder inflammation since Saturday, but he's making good progress in his recovery. The right-hander is eligible to return as early as Sept. 2, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him rejoin the Twins following a relatively minimal IL stint.

Cortes was placed on the 15-day injured list with a left groin strain Thursday, retroactive to Aug. 22.

Since Cortes' move to the injured list was backdated to Monday, he'll be eligible to return as early as Sept. 6. However, it's not yet clear how much time the Yankees expect him to miss. Greg Weissert was called up as part of a corresponding move, but it's possible that Clarke Schmidt claims a spot in the starting rotation until Cortes is cleared to return.

Wells (oblique) threw a bullpen session Thursday, Zachary Silver of MLB.com reports.

Wells resumed mound work with a bullpen session Tuesday, and he felt good following Thursday's throwing session. He's scheduled to throw live batting practice soon and is expected to have a better timetable for his return afterward. The Orioles aren't yet sure whether the right-hander will return as a starter or reliever.

Javier won't make his scheduled turn through the rotation this weekend against the Orioles and will be available out of the bullpen, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.

The Astros have two scheduled days off Monday and Thursday next week, and Javier will be the odd man out of the six-man rotation. The 25-year-old has a 2.88 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 146:40 K:BB across 112.1 innings this year, and he should be back in Houston's rotation before too long. Lance McCullers, Jose Urquidy and Justin Verlander will start this weekend versus Baltimore.

Eovaldi (shoulder) played catch Wednesday and could throw a bullpen session Friday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Eovaldi looks to be making positive progress in his recovery from right shoulder inflammation, which kept him from pitching since Aug. 12 before he was finally placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday. As a result of the delayed IL placement, Eovaldi won't be eligible to return until next weekend at the earliest, but that could be a realistic target for the right-hander if he continues to navigate the buildup process without any setbacks. Brayan Bello will fill Eovaldi's spot in the rotation for the time being.
