Severino (1-0) struck out six in five shutout innings, allowing two hits and two walks to pick up the victory in a 3-0 win Thursday against Toronto.

Severino retired 11 of the last 12 batters he faced after pitching around trouble in the first and second innings. The 83 pitches were his most in an appearance since 2018. After missing the majority of the last three seasons, Thursday's start was quite promising for the two-time All-Star. His next start will likely be Wednesday in Detroit.

Gausman (0-1) struck out nine in 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on six hits to take the loss in a 3-0 defeat Thursday against the Yankees.

Gausman dominated the first seven hitters in the potent Yankees lineup but could not stop Isiah Kiner-Falefa or Jose Trevino, as they accounted for both runs and went a combined 4-for-4 against the righty. The 2021 All-Star has yet to walk a batter or allow a home run in his first two starts for Toronto but has also not yet recorded a win. His next start will likely be next Thursday in Boston.

Dunning allowed two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out seven in 3.2 innings of a 10-5 win Thursday over the Angels. He did not factor into the decision.

Dunning gave up both runs on four first-inning hits and escaped trouble in each of the other innings. While he struck out seven, he needed 86 pitches to get through 3.2 innings. The 27-year-old has now made 34 career starts and is averaging under five innings in those appearances. His next start will likely be next Wednesday in Seattle.

Canning (back) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday in Houston, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Canning has been playing long toss since late March and is now prepared for the next step in his throwing program. He isn't eligible to return from the 60-day injured list until early June, though his rehab appears to be on track to this point.

Irvin (1-1) earned the win after allowing three runs on five hits across 6.1 innings during Thursday's 6-3 win over the Rays. He registered two strikeouts and zero walks.

Irvin was rolling heading into the seventh, but he gave up a leadoff double to Harold Ramirez and a two-run homer to Brandon Lowe two batters later, which ended his night. While Thursday's outing was certainly a bounce back from his first start of the season, the long ball continues to be an issue for Irvin. He's allowed four homers -- accounting for six of his seven earned runs -- through 11.2 innings so far this season.

Gilbert (1-0) earned the win Thursday after giving up one unearned run on four hits across five innings. He registered four strikeouts and zero walks.

Gilbert scattered three hits across four innings and got the first two batters to ground out in the fifth inning before Adam Engel reached second base following an error by Cal Raleigh. Engel came home to score when the subsequent batter -- Jake Burger -- singled on a pop-up to short left field, but Gilbert got out of the inning by striking out the dangerous Luis Robert. Through two starts, Gilbert has given up only two runs across 10 innings while posting an 11:1 K:BB ratio. He's tentatively slated to pitch next week against the Rangers.

Ryu (hamstring) is listed as the Blue Jays' confirmed starting pitcher for Saturday's game against the Athletics, Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun reports.

The Blue Jays never expressed much concern about Ryu's ability to make his second start of the season after he suffered a bruised hamstring when he was hit by a comebacker in Sunday's loss to the Rangers. Before exiting the contest, Ryu was roughed up over 3.1 innings, as he surrendered six runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four.

Stripling is listed as the Blue Jays' starting pitcher for Friday's game against the Athletics, Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun reports.

Toronto will likely make Stripling available out of the bullpen in an emergency Thursday against the Yankees, but assuming he goes unused, he'll step into the rotation for what is expected to be only one start. The Blue Jays have all members of their five-man rotation healthy, but Stripling will be added to the mix temporarily to give each of the other starters an extra day of rest during a busy schedule of games to open the season.

Marsh (undisclosed) covered 4.2 innings for Double-A Northwest Arkansas in Wednesday's 8-5 win over Wichita, striking out nine while allowing two earned runs on two hits and two walks.

Marsh didn't make any appearances after June 15 of last season due to an unspecified injury, but he's seemingly back to full health to begin the 2022 campaign. He pitched well in his season debut Wednesday, pumping in 52 of 77 pitches for strikes while holding opposing hitters to a .125 average on the night. Since Marsh only made six starts for Northwest Arkansas in 2021, the Royals may want to give the 23-year-old an extended look at Double-A to begin the season before entertaining a promotion to Triple-A Omaha.

Kaprielian (shoulder) will make a rehab appearance at Low-A Stockton on Thursday, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Kaprielian tossed 45 pitches during a simulated game Sunday, and his next appearance will come in a minor-league matchup. It wouldn't be surprising to see the right-hander make several rehab appearances to build up, but he's trending toward a potential return to the major-league club in late April or early May.
