Snell's arthroscopic elbow surgery went smoothly Monday, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

Snell underwent the procedure to remove loose bodies from his left elbow. The Rays expect him to return sometime in September but aren't offering a more concrete timeline. Tampa Bay has two off days this week, so it won't require a fifth starter until next Wednesday against Toronto.

Whitley (shoulder) will make at least one more start at High-A Fayetteville before moving up to either Double-A Corpus Christi or Triple-A Round Rock, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Whitley, who was shut down in late May with shoulder fatigue, started for Fayetteville last week, throwing 61 pitches (37 strikes) and 3.1 innings. It looks like the Astros are building up his pitch count before he moves up to an advanced-level affiliate.

Sale (5-10) took the loss against the Yankees on Sunday, pitching 5.1 innings and giving up six runs on five hits and three walks while striking out seven.

Coming off two straight quality starts, Sale was handed the ball Sunday with a chance to finish off a four-game sweep of the rival Yankees. Instead, he allowed a two-run homer in both the third and fourth inning and was charged with an additional pair of runs in the sixth, leading to a momentum-halting loss. The southpaw struggled with his control throughout the contest, throwing a strike on only 56 of 100 pitches and walking three batters for the second straight outing. Though Sale has continued to rack up strikeouts this season, whiffing 189 batters in 129 innings, he'll carry a disappointing 5-10 record and 4.26 ERA into Saturday's rematch with the Yankees in New York.

German (13-2) earned the win versus Boston on Sunday, tossing 5.1 innings and giving up three runs on four hits and one walk while striking out nine.

Tasked with preventing the rival Red Sox from sweeping the four-game series, German took advantage of an early 4-0 lead to frustrate Boston hitters and pick up the big win. He allowed a two-run homer to Andrew Benintendi in the fourth inning and a run-scoring groundout in the sixth but controlled the tempo of the game by pounding the zone, throwing 57 of 77 pitches for strikes and whiffing nine batters. With the victory, German is now tied for the American League lead in wins with 13 in only 18 starts. He'll carry a 4.08 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 107:24 K:BB over 97 innings into his next start, a rematch against Boston in New York on Saturday.

Gibson (10-4) gave up one run on seven hits and one walk while striking out nine through six innings to earn the win over the White Sox on Sunday.

Gibson silenced the White Sox through five innings and allowed the lone run in his last frame. The Twins are 9-2 in Gibson's last 11 starts. The right-hander has a 4.10 ERA and a 9.1 K/9 through 21 starts this season. Gibson will make his next start Saturday against the Royals at Target Field.

Milone allowed two runs on six hits and one walk across five innings in a no-decision Sunday against the Tigers. He struck out five.

Milone was strong through the first three innings, but a solo home run in the fourth inning and a run-scoring rally in the fifth got the visitors in front. He was removed at that juncture and had no shot at a win, with his side waiting until the eighth inning to plate the tying run. Milone worked with an opener in this one and fared much better than his previous start when the Rangers rocked him for six runs. This could remain the case for his next outing, which should come on the road against Houston.

Boyd allowed one run on three hits and three walks across 6.1 innings Sunday in a no-decision against the Mariners. He struck out 10.

Boyd retired the first nine batters he faced and went scoreless into the seventh inning. He ran into trouble with one out, issuing a pair of walks before Kyle Seager's RBI double chased him from the game. Still, it was an excellent start for Boyd, who notched double-digit punchouts for the sixth time this season. His name has come up in trade rumors of late, but if he remains with the team past the deadline, his next start will likely come on the road against the Rangers.

Bundy allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks across five innings in a no-decision Sunday against the Angels. He struck out three.

Despite allowing his share of baserunners, Bundy made it through five having only been scored upon via a two-run home run from Matt Thaiss. Unfortunately, he came back out for the sixth and put the leadoff hitter on before Albert Pujols delivered a two-run shot of his own. Bundy's final line is a bit underwhelming, but he pitched well on the heels of a quality start in his previous outing. He'll take a 5.24 ERA into his next start at home against the Blue Jays.

Chirinos allowed seven runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out four over four innings Sunday against the Blue Jays. He didn't factor into the decision.

Toronto jumped on Chirinos for two runs in the second inning, two in the third and three in the fifth, but the Rays offense would put up 10 runs and ultimately win the ballgame. The right-hander struggled with his command at times, firing 56 of 93 pitches for strikes. This appears to be just a bump in the road for Chirinos, who owns a 3.70 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with 106 punchouts over 121.2 innings this season.

Miley (9-4) allowed five hits and two walks over five shutout innings Sunday, striking out six batters and earning the win over St. Louis.

Miley walked a pair in the first frame and loaded the bases in the third but managed to avoid taking damage. His 3.06 ERA is the lowest he's owned since early April, and he finished this month with a solid 26:9 K:BB. Miley will face Seattle at home in his next start Saturday.
