Rays' Yonny Chirinos: Moves to 4-0

Chirinos (4-0) got the win against the Royals on Monday, striking out four and walking one while scattering two hits and giving up four runs (two earned) over 5.2 innings in the Rays' 8-5 victory.

Chirinos didn't start as the Rays opted to deploy Ryne Stanek as an opener, but he ended up taking the majority of the workload after entering the game, tossing 73 pitches and nabbing his fourth win of the season. He's putting up good numbers regardless of his role so far this year, as the 25-year-old now sports a solid 3.48 ERA, a 0.84 WHIP and a 26:6 K:BB through 31 innings.

  • Brad Keller RP | PHI

Royals' Brad Keller: Hit hard by Rays

Keller (2-3) took the loss against the Rays on Monday, giving up five earned runs on six hits over five innings, striking out one and walking three as the Royals fell 8-5.

It was a rough outing for the right-hander, who gave up four of his five runs in the first two frames before exiting the contest after five innings and 92 pitches. He'll take a 4.07 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP into his next start, which will see him take on the Tigers in a road matchup on Saturday.

  • Astros' Justin Verlander: Tough-luck loss in Minnesota

Verlander (4-1) yielded one run on two hits and two walks in six innings Monday, taking the loss against the Twins. He struck out seven batters and allowed a home run.

It was Verlander's first loss of the year despite only allowing one run on a third-inning solo shot from Ehire Adrianza. Still, he lowered his ERA to a terrific 2.45 in 44 innings alongside a 53:11 K:BB. His fastball velocity is down a touch this year, but he has the stuff to work around the slight dip. Verlander will look for his fifth win Sunday against the Angels.

  • Twins' Jake Odorizzi: Fires seven shutout innings

Odorizzi (3-2) tossed seven scoreless innings Monday, striking out seven batters while allowing four hits and a walk and earning the win over Houston.

Odorizzi was locked in all night against the visiting Astros, allowing just one hit and a walk after the second inning. He needed just 86 pitches on the night, the fewest he's thrown during his three-start winning streak. He'll carry a 3.34 ERA into Saturday's tilt against the Yankees.

  • White Sox's Lucas Giolito: Throws successful side session

Giolito (hamstring) felt good after a 50-pitch bullpen session Monday.

Giolito left his previous start April 17 against the Royals with left hamstring tightness, but his stay on the injured list appears unlikely to last much longer than the minimum 10 days. He's already eligible to return, though the White Sox have yet to announce when he'll be activated.

  • Brad Keller RP | PHI

Royals' Brad Keller: Back from suspension

Keller has been reinstated after serving a five-game suspension and is scheduled to start Monday's series opener with the Royals.

Keller dropped his appeal last week during an advantageous portion of the Royals' schedule that allowed the team to temporarily get by with a four-man rotation. His return thus brings the Royals back to five starters while lining the right-hander up for two turns this week. Keller is on tap to receive a second start during the upcoming weekend in Detroit.

  • Indians' Carlos Carrasco: Strikes out eight in loss

Carrasco (2-3) yielded four runs on six hits and two walks in 6.2 innings Sunday, taking the loss against Houston. He gave up a home run and struck out eight batters.

Carrasco completed dominated the Astros through six innings, allowing just one hit and no runs. He then got drilled for four runs -- including a three-run homer -- in the seventh inning. He actually lowered his ERA to 5.86 in 27.2 innings on the year. He'll look to get back in the win column against Seattle on Sunday.

  • Wade Miley SP | CIN

Astros' Wade Miley: Takes no-decision against Indians

Miley allowed one run on six hits and two walks while walking three over 5.2 innings in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Indians.

Miley was on his way to being a hard-luck loser to Carlos Carrasco, who had limited the Astros' powerful lineup to two hits over six scoreless innings, before Houston got to him for four runs in the seventh inning. That took Miley off the hook. The left-hander, who has a 3.24 ERA through six starts, has pitched well enough to have a record better than 1-2. He'll look for win No. 2 Saturday on the road against the Angels.

  • Drew Smyly SP | CHC

Rangers' Drew Smyly: Hopes for bullpen session

Smyly (arm) threw long toss Sunday and is hoping to toss a bullpen session Tuesday, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.

Once Smyly begins throwing bullpen sessions, a return to the rotation won't be that far behind. The Rangers are hoping to activate him off the injured list and have the left-hander start Sunday against the Blue Jays.

  • Matthew Boyd SP | CHC

Tigers' Matthew Boyd: Takes tough-luck loss

Boyd (2-2) took the loss Sunday against the White Sox despite allowing just two runs over six innings. He gave up five hits and a walk, while striking out nine.

Boyd gave up two runs in the first inning but was locked in the rest of the way. Unfortunately for him, Detroit hitters mustered just two hits and struck out a whopping 20 times in the 4-1 loss. The lefty has been sharp this year with a 3.13 ERA and 48:10 K:BB across 37.1 innings, though he may miss out on some wins due to the lackluster nature of the Tigers' offense. Boyd will look to keep doing his part in his next outing, which is scheduled for Saturday against the Royals.
